When does one go to a shala? Better yet, when should one see a teacher?

First off, the only shala near me with a certified teacher is closed right now. Also, I'm moving in a couple of months, so I wouldn't be able to afford private lessons anyway. And I was also wondering if it's weird to only go to a shala to practice half-primary (I started out practicing the entire series, but then cut back to half-primary since I didn't have a teacher and couldn't bind in Mari D. I'm up to supta kurmasana right now, but that's not super relevant. Or maybe it is? 🤷🏾‍♀️).

Anyway! When should someone try to visit a shala so they can practice under the supervision of a teacher? Or, when should someone seek out a teacher? I've been using tons of videos, support from this group and the Ashtanga reddit and videotaping myself to check my alignment. My practice feels good, but I have no idea if I'm pushing myself too hard or not hard enough. I have noticed deeper binds, etc., but I struggle to ritualize the practice. I have noticed the practice has positively affected other areas of my life, such as eating healthier and feeling less impatient. I think having someone to ask questions of and that I could go to when I need motivation would be really helpful. I do really like the flexibility of home practice, so I wouldn't want to lose that entirely; it would just be nice to get some feedback on my practice.

I'm less than a year into consistent twice weekly practice (I've been doing vinyasa and power yoga for five years and discovered Ashtanga in June of 2020, but I didn't start practicing consistently until this year. I'd like to get more days of practice in, but I work 7-5 most days of the week and I'm not a morning person ... and I tend to be pooped after work), so I was thinking of maybe waiting until I have been practicing for a year to see a teacher? Any thoughts?

How long did it take you to recover from a lotus-related knee injury

I injured my left knee yanking it in urdhva padmasana. Very stupid, I know. I learned my lesson about closing the knee joint, I swear.

Anyway, ever since then, my knee has been up and down. Some days it feels fine. Others, I get a burning on the inside or a looseness that feels unstable. I have been doing modified poses to avoid lotus for the most part (as in, at first I tried to go back too soon and probably reaggravated it, so in the last month and a half, I've been avoiding it). I recently bought a new chair so I could sit cross-legged for most of my work days and open my hips more. I have worn a knee brace on that knee during practice since March. I took Osteoflex for a month and a half. I tried to get an MRI, but then found out it would cost $890. So I didn't. I know this is totally my fault. This is definitely teaching me the importance of ahimsa, as well as patience and humility. It's still so darn frustrating!!

I'm wondering if you had a lotus-related knee injury, how long it took you to recover.
