Bought a new mat and leveled up. Posted: 25 Apr 2021 10:13 AM PDT After two years plus of steady practice, I finally splurged and got an extra long BMat to replace the old Gaiam mat I've been using. I just did my first practice on it, and omg. The size of the mat was incredible. The grip enabled me to feel confident doing things that I've struggled with for the past two years. I was actually able to confidently step forward into a lunge from downward dog, which is something I've always struggled with! I didn't realize the stability I'd been missing out on. I should have upgraded my mat a while ago. I just didn't know what I was missing out on. Has any one else had any game-changer moments or victories lately? [link] [comments]
I’m really anxious to start yoga again after spraining my knee. Any advice? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 06:41 AM PDT I just want to preface this by saying I'm not looking for medical advice! Perhaps just encouragement and ideas for poses. I've been doing yoga on and off for around three years now. I've been really busy with college this year, though, and kind of dropped my practice the past few months. It's hard to explain, but I've almost been craving yoga again and I want to make it a more solid part of my life. However, I sprained my left LCL 2-3 weeks ago now. At my most recent appointment, my doctor said I can start to exercise again but to stop immediately if there's pain. That sounds straightforward enough, but I am so anxious to start again. Honestly, I think I just need some encouragement and direction to start. I feel so stuck. Maybe it's just the anxious part of my brain talking, but every pose I think of worries me. I can't bend my knee to my chest. I can't put too much standing pressure on it. I can't really kneel on it, like for tabletop or cat/cow. I'm sure some of this will come with time as I heal, but I'd love to start now. Anyway, thanks for letting me get this out and thank you in advance to anyone who has advice ✨ [link] [comments]

Feet fall asleep durign meditation. Are there yoga Exercises to improve that? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 11:52 AM PDT Hello dear people, my feet keep falling asleep everytime I meditate even putting a pillow underneath. I then stop it because of te unconfortable feeling. Are there yoga exercises that strengthen blood flow or those parts of the body which need to be regulated for the feet not to fall asleep anymore? Thank you [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Apr 2021 03:52 PM PDT So I'm a 23M who has pretty much barely worked out for the past 8 years, only intermittent and inconsistent weight lifting. I used to be an amateur TKD fighter so I've coasted on residual benefits, but I'm wanting to get back to training, and flexibility is a big goal of mine. However I can barely do a basic viniyasa flow. Where would you suggest starting? [link] [comments]
Yoga Training and Course - suggestions welcome Posted: 25 Apr 2021 06:54 PM PDT I've been musing over the idea of either training to become a yoga teacher or maybe starting with doing an online course to get a feel for it first. I have some questions to this effect, if anyone would have any reccomendations or good resource links, please share them so I can do some research. 1) What are some good online training institutes? 2) How long does it usually take to become a certified teacher? 3) Which online yoga courses would you reccomend (not teacher training, just general yoga) 4) Is their much of a difference in international acceptance of certification? I'm based in Western Europe and unsure if a certificate from say a yoga company based in India would have any merit here. Thank you 🙏 [link] [comments]
I LOVE yoga, but skipping my daily practice REALLY makes me sore! Posted: 25 Apr 2021 01:47 PM PDT I feel like daily yoga conditions your body to a level of flexibility, so that when you skip it, you really feel tense and sore without it. In a way, we're evolving our bodies to stretch on a regular basis. So is it possible that missing that stretch can actually cause harm? Ie: I can barely tilt my head back without clicking due to neck issues, but doing yoga has allowed painless mobility nearly every day. When I skip my practice, I can feel the neck stiffness and pain all over again... 🙃 [link] [comments]
Recommended Yoga Routines for Flexibility Posted: 25 Apr 2021 12:01 AM PDT I generally follow videos from Yoga with Adrienne and Yoga with Kassandra for routine, and I think I've gone through most of their flexibility routines without much difficulty. I'm looking for routines that are more challenging and can really help me with improving flexibility. Thanks! :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2021 11:17 AM PDT I've been wanting to get into yoga because I think all the lifts they do is really cool and I'm hoping it'll bring more peace into my life since it's kind of centered around more of a mediation type workout. Just being in your body, breath work, all that. Anyway, I've looked up lots and lots of videos of people doing yoga and they're always really fit. Like really toned I mean. And skinny. I get the toned part since you're using your body as a natural weight to exercise with I guess but. Is that just because they do yoga or are they eating like rabbits and doing other kinds of workouts too? Just wondering because I've never been thin my whole life, I'm built a little bigger and sturdier than most women and have always had more meaty thighs even when I was at a "skinnier" point. I am proportional to my height though and at a normal weight for me. Does anyone know if I'll see my body get toned too by just doing yoga? Wondering what kind of results I could have if I stick with it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How do I keep my back straight? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 08:48 AM PDT I follow a lot of the yoga with Kassandra and yoga with Adriene videos for daily yoga. In downward dog and staff pose I am always struggling to keep my back straightened no matter how I adjust! I can keep a straight back sitting normally (with legs bent) just fine, and I don't try to force my heels flat in downward dog but it will just round again. Does anyone have suggestions for other poses/stretches I could do that would help? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2021 02:44 PM PDT I'm newer to yoga and after practicing consecutively for the last several weeks I'm finding my mat isn't quite working for my body type. I'm a 6 foot tall woman. Any other tall people have recommendations on the best mat that works for them? [link] [comments]
Tips/daily breathwork routines to improve breathing? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 11:38 AM PDT So I'm coming up to my one year anniversary of consistenly practicing yoga, and something I have noticed I can definitely improve on is my breathing. I (23F) have always noticed I am a fairly shallow breather most likely due to anxiety/poor posture/a bad habit of always tensing my muscles while doing things like studying. I noticed this feeling before having COVID in July 2020, which made my lung muscles feel tighter afterwards (probably a combo of the virus effects and the anxiety), and was medically evaluated to be sure and results all clear--no lung issues thankfully. Some days my breathing patterns are better than others, but I also usually notice it is harder for me to breathe deeply in some poses that I strain a little more in (probably natural to an extent, but could definitely improve in poses like downward dog). I was looking for recommendations for any daily, quick breathwork routines to generally improve breathing/deep breathing that I could do everyday to hopefully see some more improvement. Any tips in general are welcome, too! Thanks all [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2021 11:02 AM PDT Hello! I have been really interested in starting to practice yoga regularly once a week, and i'm mostly interested in doing yin yoga. I am quite flexible, and i stretch every day. I lift weights and do calisthenics at the gym and i also practice aerial hoop, and (depending on the season) i do skydiving, snowboarding, SUP-boarding and hiking. So i'm wondering if doing yin-yoga once a week would be beneficial for me and the other training i do? I would love to also have a relaxing activity to do every week, other than the stretches and yoga poses i just do for strenght and flexibility. Is it worth it doing it only once a week? And will it cause any loss in strenght? [link] [comments]

What exercises/stretches are good for increasing hip mobility and strength? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 07:14 AM PDT I had multiple hip operations at a young age after being born with a displaced hip (wasn't in the ball join correctly) and made a huge mistake (that I now very much regret) of not doing my physiotherapy workouts and now I can't really do much with my leg such as tie laces etc. After covid I plan on trying to get in touch with a physio and see if I can restart the plan or if there's anything I can do to get the mobility back. Has anyone got anything I can do in the mean time? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
