[COMP] No block, no wall, no problem! 6 months into yoga for me.

[COMP] During the pandemic, I decided to move away from the city and be more close to nature. I create this little corner for my everyday yoga. It's basic, no extra decoration, and with a forest in front of me, all of which makes me feel centred and truly helps me find my inner peace.

    What I love about yoga

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:31 PM PDT

I just had such a beautiful practice that I just had to share.

What I love most about yoga is how connected and how peaceful I feel after my flow. My flows aren't perfect. In fact, it's mostly me following YouTube videos. But I can feel one way before I start and just feel so serene and peaceful after. It's like I don't have a care in the world. It's amazing and I am so happy I found yoga. I had dabbled in it before, but got super into it during quarantine. It's been life changing.

How does your practice make you feel? I'm so curious to know.

I Love My Mat (a poem, I guess?)

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:50 PM PDT

    I love my mat.
I love the way it smells: plasticky, sure, but oddly comforting.
I love the way it looks: deep violet with lilac embellishments.
I love the way it feels, squishing under my hands and feet, supporting me.
I love that my mat is 12 square feet in my apartment that isn't covered in dog hair, study guides, or electric bills.
When I'm on my mat, I feel powerful. I get to close my eyes for the first time all day, instead of burning them with the light of my laptop. I feel connected to a body I spent years abusing, starving, neglecting. I am taking this time, this time right now, to listen to my quieter parts. They whisper to me.
And that is the greatest gift I can give myself.

    I love my mat.

    Yoga space advice and ideas

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:43 PM PDT

Hello r/yoga, I am hoping I can get some advice and ideas from you all. My partner practices yoga daily. She currently does her yoga in our makeshift guest room/storage room. And i would very much like to surprise her with a dedicated, peaceful, inviting yoga space - just for her. We have an unfinished basement and I would like to convert part of that area into her dedicated yoga space. Because the entire basement is unfinished, it wouldn't be very peaceful or relaxing in its current state. What would be some things that would help make for an inviting space for her yoga? I am not experienced with yoga at all, so unfortunately I don't have much reference to draw from. Also, the floor of our basement is the concrete foundation floor, and we live in a northern area of the US. I fear that the floor may be too cold in the winter- If I were to put down flooring, what type of flooring would be preferable for yoga? I was thinking of laying a peel and stick vinyl plank or possibly laying some luxury vinyl plank. Or would maybe some rugs over concrete be sufficient? She's wanted her own space for a long time and I really want to give that to her.

    Thank you!

Odd sinus experience when upside down

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:36 PM PDT

The strangest thing happened to me just now. Doing a calming flow before bed, I'm in downward dog, and suddenly some saliva? Or fluid from my throat slides up the back of my throat, up behind my nose and into what felt like my brain. Super painful for several minutes I had to stop and sit upright. It felt like that pain when you get chlorine pool water up your nose as a kid, and the feeling went way up into my head.

I'm sure it's normal and the pain is going away now but it made me wonder why something like that doesn't happen more often. I'm perfectly healthy right now—no cold/allergies that would give me sinus troubles. Gravity got the better of me I guess!

Anyways, just felt the need to share this. Anybody experience this before?

DD+ Women, can you give me some honest sports bra thoughts?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:05 PM PDT

Finally got back into a heated yoga studio after almost a year off. I was so happy I almost cried! But it did remind me of how difficult it is to find good, support sports bras. I am a 36DD. I have been using cheaper Amazon sports bras, which isn't working. I've perused Athletic and Alo sites, but hot damn! I am not plus-sized otherwise, which means it even more difficult.

Are they worth it? Can any with larger chests share what's worked well for them?

Yoga poses to help an overactive and tense pelvic floor?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:53 AM PDT

Hi, I'm looking for some yoga poses that would help me with a tense and overactive pelvic floor. I used to have vaginismus, which is pretty much cured now, but I still have some problems with my pelvic floor being tense. I love to do yoga and therefore I'm looking for some poses that could help me specifically target this problem. Could anybody tell me which yoga poses I could do daily to help my tense pelvic floor muscles loosen up a bit?

    Yoga App recommendation

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:10 PM PDT

Since COVID I've tried a few yoga apps (Downdog, CorePower, Yoga with Kassandra). I've dropped the others, but have kept Kassandra, since I love her Yin and bedtime offerings.

I really liked CorePower since they have lots of teachers, good music, and students in the classes (I like seeing more than just the teacher). The only problem was I was often getting hurt! I think "power yoga" just might not be fore me as I get older.

So, do you have any recommendations of an app (I don't mind paying monthly) with more Hatha / Iyengar styles of yoga: with a variety of teachers and students? Cool music is nice, but not necessary. Progressive classes/levels would be nice too.

    Thanks!

How's the yoga on Apple Fitness+?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:54 AM PDT

Apple are pushing their new Fitness+ pretty hard and their yoga seems to be at the forefront of it.

What's people's experience like with the Fitness+ yoga? Any good? Favourite instructors?

Is Surya Namaskar A+B and Padmasana considered a complete practice?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:18 AM PDT

I've been looking to graduate into a formal and structured asana routine which i can adjust into the minimal period before my pranayamas. I was considering about 12 repetitions of Sun Salutation A and B, culminating in padmasana or lotus which i plan to carry over into breathwork. Would this be a good idea? Any resources you'd recommend to learn the same?

I'd be grateful for any guidance!

Anyone else have back mice or lumps in the lower back? Hard to tell if back mice or muscle knots but is there anyway to help them go away with yoga?

    Fast yoga

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 03:41 AM PDT

What is a fast form of yoga that is really vigorous? I did it a few tears ago and really liked it. It was like really fast and no pause between moves. Anyone know the name of it?

    Thanks so much. Namaste

Weird head rushes while changing position

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:44 AM PDT

Hey guys! So i've been doing Surya Namaskar/Sun Salutations every morning for a while now, and i've noticed at the end of each sequence after leaning back and then bringing myself back upright with hands at centre, I get super intense head rushes/light headedness/dizziness.

Theres no pain or bad feelings, if anything they feel fairly nice and calming, but I do tend to need to quickly sit down on occasion as it feels like I might pass out. I'm assuming its a nutrient deficiency or something, although I have looked into the main deficiencies that cause light headedness and have been adding foods to my diet that are high in magnesium etc and haven't noticed any change.

I know this isn't a specific yoga question, but I feel like its something a lot of people doing yoga would have experienced and was just curious if anyone has any dealt with it themselves and how.

Thank you so much for any guidance 🙏

    can’t even sit

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:03 AM PDT

So vinyasa yoga has been difficult for me as my mobility, flexibility n posture are all horrible. I decided to take what I thought was an easier route and do kundalini instead buuut I can't even do the Easy seated pose. I'm 25....

I either need back support or I have to hold my legs to stay up but my back is rounded, my thighs dont even nearly hit the floor and i cant bring my legs super close to my body.

it hurts to sit on the ground and bc I feel so stiff and uncomfortable, it takes away from the yoga. What are the issues I need to address?? how do I fix this??
