    Newbie alert

    Posted: 17 May 2021 02:44 PM PDT

Hey guys, I just joined the group and already saw so many great inspirational posts. I've been exercising for over 3 months now with cardio and body weight exercises, now I have this very random desire to achieve splits. I feel like I'm somewhat flexible, I can touch the mat when stretching to touch the feet, also put both my knees on the ground when doing the butterfly pose and even put my head on the floor while on it. I don't have a background in dancing or gymnastics, but I always enjoyed seeing people doing these cool movements. I figured why not go for it. So today I began incorporating this 30 minutes stretch I found for front splits, I don't know if I should be trying to achieve regular splits at the same time, what do you guys think? I'm looking for tips on what I should do. Today after the very hard stretch I managed to stay less than 8cm from the ground I think, I didn't have anything to measure, but it was less than 10 cm for sure. Help this lost soul! 🥲💕

Would it be optimal to let your muscles recover after a workout before stretching them?

If so, is there a known time it generally takes for muscles to recover?

How much time do you spend stretching to get more flexible?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 02:24 PM PDT

I've never been very flexible at all. I was a gymnast in high school & college, and people couldn't believe how inflexible I was despite being in a sport with such an emphasis on flexibility and stretching every day. At the time, I could probably get to just over 90 degrees in my splits.

I'm no longer a gymnast, but I lift weights 4x per week, run at least 2x per week, and yoga 3x per week. In the evenings, I'll stretch for about 15-20 minutes before bed. At this rate, my groin is becoming so inflexible that I noticed I can no longer squat to parallel with proper form. I also can't sit with my legs straight out and back straight up, perpendicular to the floor. I feel like my lack of flexibility is starting to impact my daily life.

So, I'm curious how much time do you all spend stretching per week? I feel like I have a very balanced routine but my lack of flexibility is still causing problems. Am I just not stretching enough or active enough to see the benefits?

Inflexible beginner looking for yoga alternative

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:18 AM PDT

I'm 6'2", 170lbs, and not very flexible. The internet brought me here. I've done some yoga before and just never took to it (it's not so much the poses/activity as it is what the instructors say - just never jived with me). Is there a different program that would allow me to improve flexibility? (preferably in video form, but not necessarily a must)

Some good dynamic and static stretches to increase blood flow before working my legs

Titles says it all. What are they best dynamic and static stretches both for flexibility, blood flow, and hip/leg mobility? Preferably beginner level stretches

    Need help with tight hips

    Posted: 17 May 2021 12:30 PM PDT

My entire lower body us tight but my hips are especially. My right his is so tight that I can not even sit cross legged because it hurts my right hip, glute, knee area, and ankle. If I try to sit cross legged, it's like I'm only sitting on my right glute, and my left gluten can barley touch the ground. I've been doing stretches bit it doesn't seem to help

Soreness in upper back from stretching and pressing out tension

    Posted: 17 May 2021 10:07 AM PDT

Hey, so I've been working to improve my posture since I am sitting at my computer almost all the time for work. I've been stretching every day for about 5 days now and every day my back is slightly sorer. It's not unbearable pain or anything that seems alarming. It feels similar to the soreness I get after a good weight-lifting workout. I have some decent knots and tension in my upper/mid back from being slightly hunched over at my desk a lot. I've been trying to undo the tension that is in those areas by doing things similar to a cat-cow and slight twisting to the left and right and really focusing on that upper/mid back area. I've also been using a semi-hard ball to kind of work out those same areas that are tight. Is this normal or healthy to be feeling sore doing these things?

I think I sprained something doing Uttanasana exercises?? I did a fold and since last night I can't walk without help

    Posted: 17 May 2021 09:07 AM PDT

Is this even possible? Basically, I stupidly went to fold without stretching first.

I can't figure out how to fix this. It basically feels like my tailbone is on fire and is tender to the touch. I have pain even sitting.
