A negative state/feeling that continuously comes back to visit, isn't powerful itself....it is the importance you assign it + the attention you keep giving to it...that makes it powerful to you.

    Posted: 18 May 2021 10:09 PM PDT

The only thing overwhelming about a state that comes back for you is the fact that you are in some way allowing it by giving it importance and continuous attention. It's almost like an addiction or obsession with bad states, to not desire something that is present is STILL A DESIRE. That's why they keep coming back. You are pushing it away with resistance.

You think there is something that needs to be looked at there but you end up in a cycle all over again. In psychology, we are taught to look into our minds but in meditation, we learn to leave it. It's another trick of the mind. YOU grew up with your mind, so it knows exactly where your fears and triggers are...because you mentally created it whether you intended to or not.

It wants your attention, it wants your identification with it, it wants you to keep thinking itself, it's a mechanism and that is just how it functions.

This is not to say emotions and states won't come, but we don't need to give it so much meaning and attention....it's like feeding a beast. Focus on your breath, your spirit, and your awareness. Empty it all out. There is a vaster space that when seen and placed attention there, becomes a true and clear seeing.

Breathing starts to fade away a while into meditation.

    Posted: 18 May 2021 04:35 PM PDT

It does not harm or anything but I notice that my lungs only take in a very small amount of air like 30 percent of their capacity and my breathing becomes minimal. Does anyone else experience it? Am I doing something wrong?

I find it very uncomfortable to breathe when trying to meditate. I feel a weight on my chest and can't take in full breaths. Also, my back hurts really bad. I am new to meditation, btw.

Does anyone find it easier to meditate with eyes open?

    Posted: 18 May 2021 07:26 PM PDT

Whenever I close my eyes I always get distracted with my own thoughts, but when I try meditating with my eyes open I can just focus on the objects in front of me and am somehow less distracted.

There’s a negative state I keep giving my attention to- how can I work with it?

    Posted: 18 May 2021 01:11 PM PDT

There's this sort of meloncholy/fearful state that comes. It used to attach itself to things but with meditation I've slowly peeled away some layers and now it's just this empty feeling. When attached to it or believing to be in it, it washes over everything. Making me feel like everything is meaningless, disconnected from why I'm here, and struggling to find meaning and everyday movements. Everything seems super pointless?

It's a difficult state to be in. I try to just observe it, but it feels like so much effort, to just watch it haha does that make sense? It seems like it's "truth" although I know intellectually this state is not all knowing truth.

It's sort of a depressive state like I didn't really ask to play this "game" of life and it seems too complicated to be in it. It seems too hard or that I need to work hard in meditation, to attain a clearer state. I feel like I'm missing something here...

I recognize this is just maybe another mind trick but the more I distrust my mind the more I distrust myself. What do I believe?

Meditation beginner - better to meditate in the morning or at night ?

    Posted: 19 May 2021 02:04 AM PDT

Hello everyone ! I started to meditate about 2 months ago (at night) but then I stopped, I don't really know why. Lack of motivation maybe...

My questions are : is it better to meditate in the morning after waking up or at night before bed ? Do you know a free meditation app with a full program (English or French) ?

Thank you for your help ;)

    Is this still meditation?

    Posted: 19 May 2021 12:33 AM PDT

I like to get high, throw on some really trippy groovy music and do like a seated dancing meditation. With one song in particular, its like my form of worship of the Universe.

    Worldly Effort v.s. Meditation Effort

    Posted: 18 May 2021 09:50 AM PDT

    Hello,

I've been having a problem with balancing between worldly and meditational effort. I see that the answer is to be as meditative as possible in sitting and also in worldly activity. But for some reason this poses a non-judging attitude towards my worldly life. Which kind of allows me to not try my best nor going out of my comfort zone.

Would then the optimal act be to keep your life a meditation and at the same time live fully with effort on your conceived notion of what a fulfilling day would be. Obviously our egos are still there and our definition of a "fulfilling day" is most likely false. But, in a way to come to that conclusion one also needs to go through with that illusion while on the other spectrum practicing meditation? Am I denying something in my self to not "try my best" or "go for your dreams" types of attitudes?

    Thank you.

How to stop using guided meditation as a crutch?

    Posted: 18 May 2021 04:56 PM PDT

I have been practicing meditation for about a year with an app, but I want to start practicing on my own - what have you found to be helpful when practicing self-guided meditation?

My main struggle is feeling lonely while trying to meditate on my own, without someone guiding me in my ear and leading where to go.

Inspirational Life-Changing Quotes To Meditate To..

    Posted: 18 May 2021 09:43 PM PDT

Ive tried meditation in the past to help with my social anxiety and self esteem, but I found that it didnt help at all, and occasionally made it worse. Help?

    Posted: 18 May 2021 04:49 PM PDT

I tried doing meditation for about a year straight a couple years ago to try to combat my low self esteem and social anxiety. Ive always had a low self esteem. And when im in a social situation, i am constantly in my head thinking "did that sound weird? Why did it say that? Why didnt they laugh? They dont really like me. I hope im not being annoying". Etc etc etc.

I was told meditating could help get myself out of my head and be less aware of myself. But I ended up quitting after a year straight of doing it. It was causing me to hyper focus on my thoughts. I could not get out of my head. I would go into social situations expecting the meditation practice to have had some benefit, but it did not. I still could not get out of my head. I still could not constantly view myself from others eyes. I could not pay attention more to the situation, rather than myself.

I desperately want a solution, and I was really hopeful that meditation would be it. But Im so ridiculously hyper focused on my thoughts, more than I ever was before starting. I cannot get my brain to just run on auto pilot without over analyzing everything. Ive struggled with this for over 25 years.

Does anyone have any advice? How do you approach social anxiety situations?

    Lower back pain while meditating

    Posted: 18 May 2021 07:38 PM PDT

I [25M] started meditation a couple of days ago & I have been mediation on an average of 13-15 minutes. I have read that we should be meditation for around 30 minutes to really feel the effects & the results will be better if we're doing this for 45 mins or so in a single session. However, I am unable to achieve that goal.

I could not go for more than 10 minutes yesterday & more than 12 minutes today because I experience pain in the lower right side of my back. It got rather uncomfortable & after enduring it for a couple of minutes, I had to get up. It worsens when I take a deep breathe. It has been a couple of minutes and I can still feel some of that pain now when I sitting on my Ikea Markus.

Have you people experienced something similar. I don't really have any health problems & I have never had back problems before. I think my posture was fine & I have no clue what is causing the problem. Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Can someone simplify meditation for me?

    Posted: 18 May 2021 07:06 AM PDT

I've recently started doing meditations in order to enforce self love and setting healthy boundaries because I feel like it's been harder for me lately to sit alone in my apartment mostly because i start thinking about how lonely i am and everything that is wrong with me that is keeping me lonely without a partner . Meditating worked for a few days and then i found out that there are a lot of kinds : ones for self love, for mindfulness, for gratitude, for manifesting love ....and I feel like I need all of these !! So being an over thinker I started questioning every meditation I do, what if it's wrong ? What if it's not what I need? What if I'm wasting my time? And I spend a lot of time looking for the perfect guided meditation that i end up giving up. Any advice?
