Need help with posture. Experiencing pain. Posted: 18 May 2021 05:48 PM PDT I have a slightly rounded upper back and also an exaggerated lumbar curve. (APT). Similar to this. Posture B. Not as bad as that but that is what my posture will be like when I am not aware of it. If I exercise (running, soccer, basketball) I will experience pain in the neck and upper back as well as my lower back. I don't know what to do and I want to find relief. I have never tried yoga and I want to give it a go, but at the same time, I don't want to be doing exercises and stretches that will worsen my issue. [link] [comments]
Would you trust a pregnant yoga teacher? Posted: 17 May 2021 09:30 PM PDT I'm 6 months pregnant, and haven't taught in awhile due to COVID. I'd like to teach some free community classes, mostly to log the class hours needed to maintain my certification, but also to contribute to small businesses in my area. I'm not (nor am I very interested in being) certified to teach prenatal yoga, so my question is, would a non-pregnant practitioner feel confident and comfortable with a visibly pregnant teacher? I've been able to maintain most of my strength and flexibility so far, so I'd still be able to demonstrate positions correctly, and of course my ability to cue verbally is still there, but it's obviously really important to me that my students to feel completely safe. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
15 Minute Daily Yoga Flow Suggestion For Beginners Posted: 18 May 2021 09:14 AM PDT There are recommended flows on YouTube but they didn't bother giving names of the poses. So I have to watch their moves while doing it and this prevents me focus my body and breath. So could you suggest me a 15 minute daily yoga flow suggestion for beginners with names of the poses please? [link] [comments]
Tips on progressing one arm/one leg plank Posted: 18 May 2021 08:38 AM PDT I have been doing yoga on Alo Moves for about 2 months and I'm having trouble with this plank exercise. I can only hold it for about 3 seconds and I always fall. Is there a certain practice I should follow to improve this pose? [link] [comments]
Lower back "locks up" in forward fold. Posted: 18 May 2021 10:13 AM PDT Hi. I'm not entirely new to yoga but by no means super experienced. I am not that flexible either. I am noticing a few things when I am in forward fold. I always have a slight bend in my knees and I fold from the hips (if that makes sense..), i don't just hang. I try to lengthen the back and have really tried all tricks and tips I could find. Occasionally my lower back will "lock up" and when I transition from forward fold to mountain pose, it's sometimes quite challenging and can hurt a little. Not only that.. My glutes also hurt a little. I've had issues with my sciatic nerve before that was treated in physical therapy and with acupuncture. Today I practiced and the flow had quite a few forward folds and towards the end I just couldn't do them. My lower back was hurting and my glutes. Left glute is sore now (did yoga 6 hours ago). Has anyone else experienced this? Or have an idea why it happens? Are my muscles too weak? Am I overstretching? Oh.. I have mild scoliosis but I doubt that has anything to do with it. Or am I wrong? It's very discouraging and frustrating. [link] [comments]
Books on the teachings of yogis Posted: 18 May 2021 09:14 AM PDT I am fascinated by how sad ghuru speaks on how yogis break down intelligence and other concepts. Could anyone recommend a good book to learn the teachings and concepts of yogis? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 09:09 AM PDT I am curious to know if there's someone in this group from Italy, like me. I personally started to practice in 2012, I did a class one year and then stopped for a while. Restarted in 2015 with La Scimmia Yoga, did one other stop for a surgery (endometriosis) and went on and off since last month, where I subscribed to La Scimmia Yoga website (after a second endo surgery) and started from basics, as I could not remember some asana positions. I love that website and the teacher, she's so kind and very accurate in giving her instructions. And how do you practice? What's your story? Anyone can answer of course!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 08:41 AM PDT Hello all! I did a search but couldn't find anything recent that matches what I'm looking for. I'd like to find some loose, flowy tops (long sleeved and short sleeved), and in an ideal world they'd be from a sustainable, not too overpriced Canadian company. But I'm happy to hear of everyone's favourites! [link] [comments]
How long a muscle pull takes to heal? Posted: 18 May 2021 11:41 AM PDT Pulled lower (side around waist) muscle while doing Parivrtta Janu Sirasana a few months back. It feels like pain comes back when I do side plank or Parivrtta Janu Sirasana. Once it pained so much in the lower abdomen that I feared it to be appendicitis but my ultrasound came back normal. I'd love yo hear your stories about healing a muscle pull. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Yoga for mobility/climbing. Advice please! Posted: 18 May 2021 11:29 AM PDT I have reached a plateau with my climbing ability. Mainly because the moves I need to attempt are intense/I'm so worried about injuries. So I don't attempt much in the higher end of my ability. I have supraspinatus tendonitis (shoulder) and my lower back often takes some strain from playing/practising golf so often. I have incredibly tight hips, sitting crossed legged on the floor is almost impossible. My leg muscles seem to be non existent despite cycling everywhere. I fell out of love with yoga some time ago due to repeatedly doing downward dog based routines that frankly I hated/ended up injuring myself. It's not a rest position for me. I'm after some routines (preferably follow along videos) that are more about movement than holding positions. I'm quite lanky so I find most poses are a bit different for me and I end up straining to hold them. Minimum weight movements is the key I think. But I will welcome any help and advice. Thanks you lovely people! 🙏 [link] [comments]
Tips on Upper Body Strength for Wheel Posted: 18 May 2021 07:21 AM PDT Can anyone offer a new practitioner tips on how to increase upper body strength to help me lift my upper body up in wheel? I have just gotten to the point where I can get my head on the floor but even though I press I cannot get my head off the floor. In my research, people have said do the dolphin push ups which I have been trying to incorporate. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Pain near elbow when lowering from plank to belly Posted: 18 May 2021 04:26 AM PDT https://images.app.goo.gl/GFkBTTGWV8N4JDTY7 Hopefully that picture works, if not, it's the muscles in the arm. I have been practicing consistently for about 6 weeks. I feel I am getting better at lowering from plank to belly (before doing the standard: cobra, back to plank, back to downward facing dog). This sequence isn't in my every day, but it is very commonly in the videos I watch. I feel this is a new pain, well, discomfort honestly it's not sharp/severe enough to be pain which is why I'm asking now. Does anyone know if it is posture causing this or something else? Possible my arms are too wide, elbows not tucked enough, leaning too far forward/back in plank before lowering? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong since I am right-dominant and it's only the muscle in my right arm that is uncomfortable. It's in the forearm, under the elbow, towards the outside of the arm. My best guess is it's the "extensor carpi radialis" based on the picture but that's a guess. I know this isn't medical advice and if it gets worse I'll need to talk to my doctor. Just checking I guess if anyone else experienced this and changed something and it went away. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Home practitioners- what kind of schedule do you keep and for what reason/s (if any)? Posted: 17 May 2021 11:26 PM PDT Edit: I realized after making this post that this actually can easily be answered by people that attend studios as well!! My bad! So really this question is for everyone :-). Aside from a year when I was attending a studio, I've been doing yoga at home using glo.com for almost 5 years now. I started with only Vinyasa and Yin classes, and finally discovered the magic of Hatha at the beginning of this year. I now love to do a mix of mostly Hatha and Vinyasa, with one day a week of Yin. I often wonder what everyone else does, so I figured I'd just ask! So - do you prescribe to a particular schedule? Do you make sure to keep a particular ratio regarding the type of yoga you do? And more importantly, I'm curious about your reasoning for keeping the schedule and ratio you've chosen. Is it because of certain fitness goals, etc. As for me, my weekly schedule looks like this (1 hr 6 days a week, and one day off): Monday: Hatha - intensity 3, Tuesday: Vinyasa - intensity 3, Wednesday: Hatha - intensity 2, Thursday: Vinyasa - intensity 2, Friday: Yin (level/intensity n/a), Saturday: day off, Sunday: Hatha - intensity whatever I feel like. I am not too strict- sometimes I skip an extra day or switch things around. I rarely take off more than two days in a row because my body starts feeling decades older, and I hate that feeling. I prefer Hatha at this point the most, but I include the Vinyasa classes because yoga is my main form of exercise so I feel like I need the variety for my strength / stamina.. Can't wait to hear everyone's answers! [link] [comments]
Question about yoga blankets/towels Posted: 18 May 2021 01:58 AM PDT I have recently started doing yoga and I absolutely love it! However, I am still a little confused by all the equipment that is available. I bought two blocks and a strap that I use frequently and that I am really happy with. I would also like to get a yoga blanket soon to help with knee support and sitting upright. All the yoga blankets I could find online have rather bad reviews, though, so I was wondering if I could also use a proper yoga towel as a blanket. Or are yoga towels not meant to be used as blankets? [link] [comments]
Puzzle tile mats for home gym? Posted: 18 May 2021 05:38 AM PDT Moving into a new apartment that has an extra room that I'm going to use for exercising and other activities. I was wondering if anyone has used puzzle tile mats at their place. The floor would mostly be used for calisthenics, yoga, acro yoga, and juggling. My main concern is that the soft puzzle tiles are going to mess up my balance while practicing yoga/ acro yoga. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]
