Yogis who quit weed - what is your life like now?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 05:22 PM PDT

I've been struggling with trying to find fulfillment from distractions like we need or porn or food. It would be much easier for me to live if I didn't run to these things the second I was not feeling so good inside.

I understand that part of the yogic path is to face these feelings inside and allow them to be as they are. I really want to liberate myself from unsolved pain inside.

To you guys who have had a weed dependency any other addiction that you no longer do partly because of coming closer to finding that inner fulfillment can you please here with me some truth that you see now through The eyes of a person who doesn't need these things to feel happy. Quite often I trick myself thinking that without these distractions I won't be able to have deep fulfillment in life. And while I feel that a load of horse shit I am tricking myself into believing, still feels like that. I would like through hearing about your experiences to confirm for myself that indeed I am tricking myself into thinking that without these distractions I'm not going to be happy or find lasting fulfillment.

These addictions and dependencies are really disturbing my mind, and I need to find the strength to be okay with my feelings I'm not trying to run away into quick Band-Aid solutions.

    Help in down dog!

    Posted: 01 May 2021 07:43 PM PDT

Curious if anyone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong in my body. When coming out of chaturanga and pushing back into down dog, my feet are a bit over to the right corner of my mat and so I have to adjust my body back to the center of my mat when I get back into down dog. Wondering why my legs naturally go over that way, what I'm doing wrong?? Does this make sense??

    Yoga Resources for beginners?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 09:50 AM PDT

I've been following along to yoga with Adrienne videos just as a casual as needed exercise, but I am interested in starting to make yoga a regular exercise because it is low impact. I also have some hyper mobility that I would like to start building muscle to correct. Do you have any recommendations for reading materials or videos that explain how to do each exercise properly?

Wanting to get into Yoga. Best forms to help with soreness, breathing, and anxiety?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 11:40 AM PDT

Basically I have two problems that actively prevent me from working out:

One is that I feel sore after work. Because of this I always feel compelled to lay down for long hours instead of being productive.

Second is that I'm a mouth breather who easily becomes out of breath when I go for runs outside. It's gotten to the point where I can't even exercise with high-powered fans without suffocating.

I also wouldn't mind any techniques to help with my anxiety, although this is less important than the other two as it doesn't bar me from exercising.

    Any advice is appreciated!

Is it redundant to practice qigong, squats, planks, and/or incline chest presses as far as health is concerned if I sit in Padmasana or Siddhasana for everyday activities?

    Long term studies on yoga?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 06:26 AM PDT

Recently a friend directed me to an article talking about how many studies point to yoga being bad for you long term. The article mentioned many practitioners having to get hip replacements, end up having shoulder issues down the line, etc. are there any studies you guys could point me to that show the benefits of yoga long term? I practice yoga almost daily and it's changed my life for the better. I just can't see how yoga could be bad for your body long term. I forgot the name of the article but if I find it I will post it here

Edit: here is the article in question https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.advancedhumanperformance.com/blog/truth-about-yoga-flexibility-mobility-training%3fformat=amp

    Height increase from Yoga

    Posted: 01 May 2021 10:13 AM PDT

I'm interested on yoga for many reasons, but I have heard quite a few people claim that the improvement in posture caused them to gain an inch or so and appear taller by standing up straighter.

When I measure my height, I've always stood as straight as possible. With my spine as straight as possible and my shoulders rolled back. In my case, would posture make a difference in my measured height?

I know we all lose some height over the day as gravity compresses our spines.

Which parts of my body should I target if I can't cross my legs?

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:54 AM PDT

    What I mean is like this;

    https://imgur.com/a/CEXrpAB

Ever since I can remember I can't cross my legs like this. It just seems impossible. I have flat feet, so maybe that caused to the muscle imbalances on my lower body but I honestly don't know.

What I know is I want to fix this. So which tight or weak parts of my body could be causing this?

    Shoulder issues from yoga

    Posted: 01 May 2021 05:38 AM PDT

    Hello!

Bit of a backstory. 35 year old male, never really done exercise until last October. Decided to take up yoga during lock down. Did it everyday (30 minutes) until I hurt my shoulder.

The shoulder pain is muscle related I believe and certain kinds of stretches relieve the pain. The pain is in the shoulder joint and goes down the side of my arm toward my elbow. From "Dr Google" I believe I've overused my shoulder and need to build strength in it.

The issue is that, I only seem to be able to manage a few weeks of yoga (5x a week, 30-40 minute sessions) before my arm hurts again and I've got to rest it for a few days.

I'm trying to keep regularly doing yoga in order to build strength but not sure if that's exacerbating than problem in the long run.

Is yoga something I should avoid and do a different type of exercise to strengthen my shoulder/arm before returning to yoga?

    Any suggestions greatly welcomed!

(FYI I bloody love yoga. Lost 2+ stone in 4 months from doing it and feel generally great!)
