Yoga: Hadn't done yoga in a year due to alot of personal issues and let downs, I was even planning on becoming a teacher but that got blown out the window too. So a year later I came back. To celebrate starting over I started in the grass before bringing my mat back out. Start again but don't give up.

[COMP] 3 years of forearm wheel progress

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:34 AM PDT

[COMP] This twisted downward dog has been a fun one to learn. Not only does it stretch the hamstrings and IT band, it helps to strengthen arms and shoulders while teaching a new form of balance.

[COMP] my cat has taken to joining me on the mat. I’m a couple days from completing my first 30 days of yoga.

how to do yoga with two large toe fusions

    Posted: 02 May 2021 06:11 PM PDT

I would like to continue my simple yoga practice, but have large toe fusions on both feet. I am finding it hard to transition, especially as I can't do downward dog, or poses such as plank as i cannot bend the large toes. Any suggestions? thx!

    Beginner Yoga struggle

    Posted: 02 May 2021 12:09 PM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I'm 31, in relatively good shape and reasonably strong however I am extremely inflexible. I'm talking I can only reach halfway down my shins lol.

I've been "tweaking" my back every time I play football and I have self diagnosed this as tightness in my hamstrings and lower back :D.

I've started doing a bit of yoga using the Down Dog app. I'm just aiming to do this 3/4 times a week for 15 minutes to begin with.

I am having a problem with the routines that the apps provide, however I'm not sure if this is standard:

The app will move quite quickly from position to position. Eg it will have me move to down dog for literally a second and then down into plank. The problem I have here is that it takes me this long just to get down dog in a manner which provides a "stretch" lol. There are however certain poses which it will have me hold for longer periods.

I guess my question is whether this is aimed for a more advanced audience, and whether it would be more effective for me to find a different source which would simply put me in a position to hold for an extended period of time.

I do actually enjoy the routines provided, and I enjoy the constant movement. I'm just not sure if I am getting as much from it as I should be right now.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Curious - anyone here get relief from IBS type symptoms with regular yoga practice?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 07:47 AM PDT

Hey all! I've been recommended yoga for my IBS symptoms, i think to mostly try and help me cut back on stress. I have no issues with yoga, i quite like it but lack settle discipline - but I'm trying!

Anyway, was just curious if anyone here has dealt with something like that. These days i mostly get pain in my stomach from bloating/gas and some stomach/ab tenderness.

Doing yoga to help I guess just seems too, idk, easy of a solution? So I'd love to hear from anyone! Thanks! 🙂

How's a day going? I haven't been practicing lately. I practiced a lot for stretching purposes and overall physical and mental health. On a completely topic, I no longer partake as much in Cannabis consumption its not ideal unless people are in a good state of mind.

I feel like yoga would be viewed as a life long practice. However, people get lazy. I feel I can practice a few stretches because sitting a lot is problematic. How yall feel about this? Anyone practice a lot and then stopped. How did yall transition back? Sugar is just too damn good. I love sugar. Anyone relate?

    I'm looking for some advice. 48 m

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:16 AM PDT

A colleague of mine who is super into yoga suggested I try some simple stretching to help ease my perennially painful bad back.

So she sent me a sample 10 minute morning 'workout' video from you tube.

After 5 days the pain in my back, I'm a cyclist and we are prone to it, hips and neck are almost completely alleviated, I feel somewhat energised and I fear I am becoming a bit of a bore about my new found suppleness.

So what I am asking for is, can someone suggest to me some further videos to follow, Do I need to up the amount of time I spend exercising daily? Or should I stick to what I am doing?

Any advice really would be gratefully recieved.

Yoga on a pitched roof deck

    Posted: 02 May 2021 01:10 PM PDT

Does anyone have a solution for a yoga setup on a pitched roof deck? I know I could build a platform that incorporates the pitch, but was wondering if there's any portable or yoga specific products on the market that would save me the hassle of building one. The pitch of the deck is probably only about 1.5 inches per foot. Curious to see your setup!

Lower Back Pain After Yoga: How long to take a break for recovery?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 11:15 AM PDT

I've been doing yoga for about 8 months now with the same yoga routine 5 days a week with 2 days rest. I used to be an avid runner, so I was in decent shape and completely switched to yoga full time, but my lower back just started to hurt as if I pulled something or misaligned a disk. I think I'm rounding my back too much in forward folds and possibly overstretching in other poses.

My question is and I can't find a concrete answer anywhere, how long should I take off from yoga to make sure I recover and not push my body too much? I now realize that I need to really take things slow and listen to my body more (another reason why I love yoga).

Is the standing leg in a balance pose considered the “side” the pose is being done on?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 01:07 PM PDT

For example, if I'm doing a dancer pose and lift the right leg and the left leg is the standing leg, is that 'doing' the pose on the right or left side?

I'm chronically ill and looking to pick up Yoga (again).

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:05 AM PDT

    Hi Reddit!

Firstly, I've tried to find threads that answered my questions but I can't seem to find any. I've also read through the sticky threads! But my apologies if I'm asking a question that's already been answered before, I must've read over it.

As the title suggests, I'm chronically ill. I have an autoimmune kidney disease and Chronic Exhaustion Syndrome, and discomfort in my muscles and joints which changes in intensity on a regular basis.

A while ago I tried to pick up Yoga and Meditation and followed Adriene's videos for the yoga part, including the 30 day challenge. I've done this a few times by now. The first week always seems to be okay, I can follow along decently (outside of the Downwards dog and planks, not beginner-friendly!) but slowly but surely each new yoga session begins to hurt more and the pain lasts for a longer period of time. This leads me to believe I simply started too extreme and my body simply can't recover quickly enough.

So that leads me to a few questions!

    • What's the best way for an ill beginner to start? I've read that Yin, Gentle and Restorative are a good starting point but there's a lot of information regarding all three, and also a lot of poses and routines.
    • Are there specific poses that benefit people like me, or poses that you recommend I'd try first?
    • What's the best and safest way to create my own routine? Are there apps that allow me to note down routines? I have a hard time creating habits and remembering stuff so a way to note it down and repeat it seems like a good idea!
    • What's the best and safest way to extend the starting routine and make it a bit more challenging? How do you extend your routine once you feel like your body is ready for more?

I hope these questions are okay! Thank you for your taking your time to read.
