Posted: 17 May 2021 08:19 AM PDT Today, yoga was not graceful. I fell out of poses I usually can do easily, my muscles were very tight, but I pushed through. And I feel so much better! Just a couple of days ago I felt strong and graceful. This is your reminder that not every day will be graceful, and it reminded me what yoga is about - caring for and listening to my body and mind. I didn't get frustrated like I usually do on days like this, I just accepted today feels different and that's ok. Might do more later though to try to ease the tightness in these muscles haha. Happy yoga-ing everyone! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 May 2021 05:18 PM PDT This is a total ramble buuuuut....I've had an anterior pelvic tilt since as far as I can remember and I've had issues (mainly with my hip flexors becoming tight resulting in back pain) here and there for the past few years. But nothing for awhile, until the other day. I had recently been using a mattress topper that caused my bed to be softer which ended up tightening my hip flexors quite a bit more than usual in the past few weeks due to my butt sinking into the bed more...anyway so a few days of being angry and upset with my body and then disappointment in myself for not addressing this earlier like the massage therapist had told me years ago, I have come to be grateful for the silly mattress topper. This afternoon's yoga class was something else. I have been doing yoga on and off for years but there's been a few poses which just felt off or I felt like I didn't quite understood how to do them properly. Today I seriously focused on tilting my pelvis inward during poses and was able to finally engage my core in the way everyone else talks about doing! Lol this does not apply to everyone but this is such a game changer and honestly a little silly that it's taken me this long to get with the program. But I'm glad for this new challenge. Planks feel better, lunges are more stable, even child's pose is different. Maybe one day I will hold a headstand without my pelvis and core caving in lol. Ps, this will seem really like a no brainer for most people but for me who has had this particular type of posture for so long, it's been a long road of frustration, pain, lack of knowledge, etc. Thanks for reading and much love to you all in this community.❤️ [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 May 2021 10:50 AM PDT I'm by far not the best at yoga, I've a very long on and off relationship with it, my form isn't perfect, I'm not super flexible and have basically no strength especially since developing my chronic pain disability. But god I'm so grateful for it, it's been a really awful day, I've been so anxious and depressed lately and today I was just swimming in it. But I managed to get my legs working enough to do 20mins of really bad hatha after a good few weeks of no practice, I skipped planks because they're painful on my back, I put my knee down in lunges, I didn't breathe in time and when it came to savasana my brain was everywhere. But I did it, and I didn't get frustrated like I normally do when I can't get a pose, or go all in on flex training, and I didn't skip savasana like I do 99% of the time. I honest to god nearly cried, I was so overdue this physical release and just being with myself for a little while and I'm just so glad I have yoga to cheer me up, make me stronger and more flexible and make me that bit more comfortable with my disabled body. [Just to add, this isn't me suggesting that yoga is a cure for chronic pain or disability because it's not! It's not gonna cure me nor the vast majority of other disabled people.] [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 May 2021 07:33 PM PDT My boyfriend is all the above and takes my class each week. I'm working with him on learning to not compare himself to others or not get down on himself when he needs to stick with modifications rather than the full expression of the pose. I showed him Shoulder stand and when he was able to get his legs all the way up he was SO proud and it felt like his excitement for the class shot way up. So, just curious, what poses give you this boost? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 May 2021 03:01 PM PDT Supine pigeon - excellent, love it, great stretch 'Regular' pigeon - painful, uncomfortable, "oh my god is the body even meant to bend that way?" Nothing relaxing or enjoyable about it at all, just a sense of discomfort throughout my hips, arms, back, etc. Any tips for making the pigeon easier? Or at least finding a variation I can hold for more than a millisecond 🙈 [link] [comments]
Does a cat asking for affecting during your yoga increase or decrease the experience? Posted: 17 May 2021 04:35 AM PDT My cat did not want to leave me alone 😂😂😂 Edit; don't get me wrong everyone, it made me laugh a little bit. I just wanted to hear your two cents. [link] [comments]
Just completed my first yoga session! Any tips for a newbie? Posted: 17 May 2021 11:53 AM PDT After seeing a few people comment about yoga with Adrienne I thought I would give it a shot and I loved it! Thanks for giving me inspiration (: I really enjoy seeing everyone's poses and I feel like it would be really good for me to get in tune with my body and mind. Can anyone give a newbie any pointers? Can I do two sessions in a day and complete the 30 days In 2 weeks? Should I just stick with one a day? How long do you usually do a yoga session for? Thanks so much! [link] [comments]
Ashtanga for recreational yogis Posted: 17 May 2021 08:21 PM PDT Hi all, I have done yoga recreationally for about 10 years. I would like to get into ashtanga to challenge myself with mindfulness and physically with poses (handstands, etc.). I would also like to do it true to its original philosophy- does anyone have any resources/online classes for beginners to the practice? [link] [comments]

Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Posted: 17 May 2021 09:17 AM PDT (This post is specifically for YA accredited instructors...the "yoga teachers" sub doesn't seem to be as active these days...) After a multi-year debacle getting my certification registered with YA, I have to complete my continuing education hours to maintain my membership. ISO the best online courses or other options to complete those hours! Thanks in advance for your help. :) [link] [comments]
How to make the transition from simply watching yoga routines to actually "learning" yoga? Posted: 17 May 2021 08:07 AM PDT I started off with a couple of 30-day challenges. They were a great way for me to get into yoga. In the first two challenges, I learned so much. After that, I have been watching stand-alone youtube yoga routines whenever I want to practice. It is great, but I feel like it isn't allowing me to advance and develop my practice. I don't think this method allows me to work on single asanas enough since each video is so different. I love the 30-day challenges because they are structured. They start out light, teach you the subtleties, and then work toward more advanced movements at the end of the challenge. I like how there is an idea of progression through them and this is something I am missing from watching the stand-alone videos. However, I find the 30-day challenges are often tailored for people first being exposed to yoga, and since I have the basics down, I find them a bit slow. I think what I ideally would be looking for is a way for me to be able to see improvement and growth in my practice instead of just going through random routines. Would it maybe be a good idea to shift away from following along to videos and following a routine on paper? If so, any advice would be great. I'd love to hear anything you have to say about this post. [link] [comments]
How long does it take for Yoga to start toning your body? Posted: 17 May 2021 04:27 AM PDT Already go to the gym and I am quite active outside of the gym, rarely ever sitting and outside doing stuff a lot. I dread the gym somedays, and I am looking to get toned from yoga and considering practicing 4-5 days a week. Another question....should is switch up the flow every day or do the same flow for a while so I can get used to it? Newbie here. [link] [comments]
Weird vibration throughout the body after doing heavy Pranayama after 20 minutes? Posted: 17 May 2021 03:42 AM PDT Yesterday, I was sitting on the terrace and simply watched my breath with heavy breathing starting at the stomach level for around 20 minutes. After sometime, a tingling sensation started developing from the cheek, between by chest, stomach and near my butt-hole. I could clearly feel my whole body wanting to explode like how the "funny bone tingle" is but it was very pleasant. The feeling was increasing with each heavy breath taken and hence I was voluntarily taking more and more to the point of exhaustion for a few minutes. I was only focusing on my breathing but I somewhat had a peripheral view of all these energy centres that were developing within me distinctly. I could pin-point 4 of them within me which later-on matched with the chakras location I checked on the internet. To check if this was a mind trick, I opened my eyes slowly and to my surprise the sensation was still overwhelming to the point. I also had subconsciously sat in a weird "mudra" which I didn't know at all. My let hand finders was in a "wrapped twisted" way with the thumb pressing down on the middle finger very firmly, my right wand was pressing down on my thigh intently. The experience lasted even after I opened my eyes and stopped after I started associating with the mind. I want to confirm this with other meditators if this is of any spiritual significance or just a body trick? [link] [comments]
Wrist discomfort for a yoga newbie Posted: 17 May 2021 04:21 AM PDT I am very unfit and unflexible, I just started yoga last night. When I'm on all fours on the mat my wrists get quite sore and stiff. Is there any warm up exercises or by any chance does anyone know any good wrist stretches/exercises that I could do to build up strength there? Thanks ❤ [link] [comments]
