- Basically, yea. That’s pretty much how I feel.
- "When we sit in meditation and hear a sound, we think, 'Oh, that sound's bothering me.' If we see it like this, we suffer. But if we investigate a little deeper, we see that the sound is simply sound. If we understand like this, then there's nothing more to it. We leave it be.

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:56 AM PDT The sound is just sound, why should you go and grab it? You see that actually it was you who went out and disturbed the sound." [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:41 PM PDT Would early humans have been closer to enlightenment than humans today? I wonder if the much more apparent connection to the interconnection and impermanence of nature a long with the silence of a pre agricultural world would reap similar benefits as meditation. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
How Meditation helped my Anxiety Posted: 14 Jul 2021 11:22 AM PDT
Never did I expect that sitting and closing my eyes for a few moments a day would be more effective than any antidepressant/ therapy session. 🙏🏽 [link] [comments]
Why does nobody discuss the fact that there are different types of meditation? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:53 PM PDT Some people like to brag that they can meditate for so long. However, all they do is space out and zone out. They never push their brain or stretch the bounds of their attention and working memory. [link] [comments]
Do you have any tips on meditating with ADHD? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:26 PM PDT I have trouble calming my thoughts, especially when doing anything (so guided meditation, walking meditation, etc are a no-go for me). I do really enjoy meditating but I always end up getting bored within a few minutes. Part of ADHD is that boredom is nearly physically painful and it is nearly impossible to just ignore. This makes it very difficult to meditate. Does anyone who has ADHD have any tips? [link] [comments]
Stopped smoking cause of meditation Posted: 14 Jul 2021 05:03 AM PDT I've been practicing transcendental meditation, you know basically just mantra meditation. And it really helped during my craving period. Moments when I want to break are completely gone. It's like I'm subconsciously in control. Wow. My brother asked me to get him a pack of cigarettes on my way home and I was not even tempted to pull out one or buy a lighter and start smoking. I wonder what this says about the mind. Ps. It feels good again to drop an addiction. Damn, smoked for 4 years [link] [comments]
Insects and animals gathering while meditating Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT Has anyone else noticed how natural life acts when you meditate, either it's my insight and attention changed to notice what was always there, or natural life picks up on your vibes. If I'm meditating out in nature I notice a lot more insects landing on me and just sitting there, or a butterfly will flap nearer and nearer, birds seem to settle in around you when they tell you're not a threat to them. Feels like a scene out of snow white hahah. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jul 2021 12:53 AM PDT School is really stressing me out and the stress is giving me bad habits. I tried googling about how to kick out all addictions and stuff, but nothing seems to work. So I turned to meditation, but I just can't concentrate and I can't like it. How do I start liking it? [link] [comments]
I Feel Like I’m Missing Something Important Posted: 14 Jul 2021 06:54 PM PDT I've been meditating on-and-off for a little over a year. much more serious the last few months. I learned TM, as well as having gone through the Waking Up app intro course and have recently been practicing TM twice daily and doing the daily meditation in Waking Up (3 total sessions per day). I enjoy both practices. TM imparts a more calm/blissful state more consistently - but I also feel like mindfulness imparts skills and awareness that I don't think I get from TM. All of that said, I constantly feel like I'm missing something. I feel like I intellectually grasp non-dualistic ideas, separation from ego, and that is where i want to go with my practice - but it doesn't feel like i understand those things - if that makes any sense. I find myself constantly watching videos, reading websites, or more recently looking up more local meditation centers in hopes of finding whatever it is I am missing. Part of me feels like the answer is patience, and that my ego is grasping at straws to keep me from peace - but part of me also feels like instruction or group work may significantly help the process. Hoping you wonderful Redditors will have some sage advice for my situation :) [link] [comments]
Beginner meditator - questions about wandering mind. Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:18 PM PDT I've been meditating for the last 2 weeks daily (except weekends) for 10 mins. I sit on a chair and focus on my breath (rise and fall of my belly) during meditation. I find that focusing on my breath gets boring very quickly and my mind starts wandering off. Now I understand that this might be normal. I do recognize this and and am able to get back to focusing on my breath, but the wandering resumes. I tried chanting Om in my mind but realized that my breathing was trying to follow the 'saying' of Om and getting uneven. Am I doing something wrong with my meditation practice? How can I improve? or should I continue to practice and it'll get better with time? Just one note about the environment: It's difficult to get pin drop silence in my room when meditating since I live close to the main road. Please advice. Thanks in advance. Edit: thank you to each one who responded. [link] [comments]
Looking for suggestions for a single word mantra other than Ohm. Posted: 14 Jul 2021 11:05 PM PDT I am not great at chanting. I struggle to remember the words or the tune and become self conscious. I am also aware of the mouthfeel of a word. There are words that are luscious, others hard. I am open to words in other languages. Thank you Thank you. [link] [comments]
How can I detach myself from desires that happen during dating? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:50 AM PDT I feel like I can sit with every emotion and im pretty much at peace, but tomorrow i got a date and just like other times when I had dates I feel like I desperately want it, instead of going for a fun time and looking if we're compatible and vibing well and getting to know her. It's something I long for so much that I feel like Im losing sense of myself during the dates sometimes. Can anyone relate? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 06:48 PM PDT "Psychonauts" are naturally interested in exploring different methods of altering mind, and perhaps that is good enough reason alone to do it. But if it's not just sensation seeking, and you want genuine "insight" into the nature of reality or experience, then what can we make of the fact these methods are so different? For instance, what is the relationship between meditation and psychedelics? Or between meditation and hypnosis or lucid dreaming or sensory deprivation? Like are these arriving at the same conclusions? Or different ones? In the case of meditation, some argue it provides the experience of the self being an illusion on a stable basis (rather than through a day long psychedelic experience). The latter may be more intense, but they may be pointing to something similar regarding the self. I'd love to hear some thoughts or good articles/books on this topic if you have any :) [link] [comments]
Why do i feel sleepy after meditation???! Posted: 14 Jul 2021 10:29 PM PDT I meditate during afternoon and exactly few minutes later i feel fucking sleepy and fall asleep for 2-3 hours straight, the sleeps good but disrupts my routine [link] [comments]
What are your favourite meditation YouTube channels? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 12:02 PM PDT I have a few that I like but I want to find better ones! Does anyone who meditates via YouTube video have any recommendations? 💜 [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jul 2021 04:52 PM PDT Everytime I try to watch thoughts, I think if nothing, and that confuses me because I feel like I, blocking thoughts out. Any help? [link] [comments]
I often fall asleep while meditation or get super sleepy Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:32 PM PDT I start meditation with deep breaths and body and sensory awareness but then if I close my eyes and try to free my mind I end up getting sleepy is this usual?? I use an app called headspace to help me meditate [link] [comments]
Guided meditations for traumatic events? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:27 PM PDT I was wondering if anyone can point me towards guided meditations to process and cope with traumatic events. I was attacked and chased by a homeless woman last night in my city and it was really scary. I am physically fine but know I will need to process - I have booked in a psych appt for 2 weeks (soonest I could get). I have a big weekend of prep for my dream job interview Monday and need, as much as practically possible, a clear and calm mental state both to prep and attend the interview. Can anyone suggest guided meditations that may help? I have a few on processing negative feelings and working on empathy by Bodhipaksa (via the BodhiMind app) towards others which I'm going to do, any other suggestions would be great. Thanks! Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:27 PM PDT Hello Everyone, I recently found meditation and I have realized that it has changed my life completely. It has increased my awareness, I feel more organized and have found some sort of stability within myself. I went from constantly overthinking, to be able to let go of things much easier. I am currently at 20 minutes a day but planning on increasing it over time. However, part of the reason why I cannot get past the 20 minutes is because of how numb my feet get during a criss-cross position. And after I finish, I start feeling less numb and my feet fall asleep with all the blood rushing down I'm guessing. Any tips on avoiding that since it can get quite interruptive sometimes. Thank you.
