| Posted: 17 Jul 2021 01:38 PM PDT I guess this just comes back to the perennial issue of discipline and carving out a set time in the day to meditate. Life always seems to get in the way, and even when it doesn't I manage to construct a narrative about why other things are more important to be doing now. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:02 PM PDT I've been meditating every now and then for some time now, and I noticed that my usual internal battles are starting to become easier. I used to overthink everything, even the simplest things, which would lead to me getting anxious these... Outcomes? Outcomes that never even came to pass. It used to be so hard for me to live in my head because it would lead to me getting overly anxious, especially after all the things I've been through and my hard childhood... But now? I feel like I'm finally at peace. Like I said, there was no specific thing that changed this for me. I don't know when or how exactly I became this zen, but I noticed that I gradually began to stop caring about these outcomes and just get on with things. I used to be easily intimidated, but these days nothing phases me anymore. I'm always calm. Thoughts? Have I reached some kind of settlement? Acceptance? I don't really wanna get into my past here on reddit, but this is pretty surprising honestly. People tell me I've changed. I'm training in martial arts by the way. When sparring I've also noticed less hesitation and overall I feel freer moving around and striking and all that. It's like all my worries and thoughts just disappeared. [link] [comments] | ||
| What’s the secret to creating the life you want Posted: 17 Jul 2021 12:49 PM PDT When you are new to meditation or mindset, and you are wanting to go through the process of self-improvement. People focus on the outside world or their environment, because that's what they want to change. They want to live in a new house, drive a new car, travel first class around the world. All around they want more of their time to themselves and all of that takes money. That's the outside world. When you are beginning you need to understand how your inner self effects your outside world. You are told in the beginning to speak and have positive thoughts. But that will not change your environment until you first change how you feel about yourself on the inside. Every day you need to condition yourself to feel better about who you are right now. Then the next step, you need to feel great(full) about who you are each and every day. That takes time, it is something you must work on every day. If you want things in your life to change. You're going to have to change things in your life (Kevin Trudeau). You can't expect to be the person you are right now and create the life you desire. Every day you need to work on feeling better about who you are right now. [link] [comments] | ||
| Human beings need to feel sane Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:29 PM PDT The majority of the human population uses scientific principles and physical evidence as a basis for all human understanding and how the world around us functions. Why is that? We are brought into a world where what we see is what we know. I saw a post of this girl who wanted to venture into spirituality but was so wrapped around her belief in science that it was difficult to embrace things that she couldn't see. It makes me think of how she determined what was real and what wasn't. If you think about it, if she abandoned those beliefs she grew up with, what would she be left with? No sense of reason or grounded human understanding to follow. Humans are afraid of what they can't comprehend. I believe that we inherently need a beacon to feel like we have some control over the world we live in. And some of us have learned that we don't actually know shit and become open to all things, seen or unseen. This isn't exactly about meditation but relates to it because so many people choose to see it as a fallacy of what they don't understand. [link] [comments] | ||
| I’ve been meditating for months and I don’t feel like it’s working. Posted: 17 Jul 2021 11:28 PM PDT I started meditating last December with varying levels of frequency and different techniques. My mind still feels busy and when I'm sitting I seem to never reach a place where my mind slows down. I struggle to be present. I struggle to be compassionate with myself and others. It feels like I've been looking at the world behind glass for the past three years. I understand you can't meditate "wrong" but it feels as though if I'm doing it "right" these things would be improving. Does anyone have any advice? [link] [comments] | ||
| Is "The Mind Illuminated" legit? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 07:06 PM PDT It seems too good to be true. Why spend an entire lifetime being a Buddhist monk to reach enlightenment when you can just read a book and reach it in just a few years without having to dramatically change your lifestyle? | Posted: 17 Jul 2021 10:33 PM PDT When Meditating, do you do it in absolute silence or with some kind of ambient sound/music? or does it depend? if it depends, what does it depend on? Thank you [link] [comments] | ||
| Odd experiences after/during meditating Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:33 PM PDT This is kind of difficult to explain, but I will try my best. During, and more noticably after, I meditate for longer periods of time (20+ minutes), about half the time I get a weird sensation. Everything just feels absolutely massive, and when I open my eyes everything feels like its about 100x their normal sizes. On top of this I just feel really off inside, while still being clear minded from the session. It creeps me out sometimes, and I was wondering if anyone else gets it or just me. | Books, Meditaiton, life advice / Turning my life around. Posted: 18 Jul 2021 02:26 AM PDT So i at the moment i'm reading all of the Lord of the rings books ( got a chapter left in the first book or rather the two first books). I enjoyed "do androids dream of electric sheep? by Philip K Dick" so much that i feel like i really got to read more from him. I'm looking at buying a couple of his books, so far i'm thinking of buying; Martian Time-Slip by Philip K Dick Ubik by Philip K Dick (and maybe) The Four Agreements by Miguel Don Ruiz (this i am not super sure about but i have researched it abit) and planning on reading Valis by Philip K Dick, (i have this at home) Anyways! why im asking is because i have never enjoyed books im the age of 25 and just recently from nowhere got hooked in reading, i have never been a reader in my entier life. I'm looking for books in a style with psychedelic traits, I have been a drugaddict since i was 13 years old, i'm turning my life around but i want something i can relate to, I'm very much into meditation for example i listen to ALOT of RAM DASS and Alan Watts. I meditate alot almost everyday atleast for 30 mins or more, I have tried alot of diffrent methodes and so far i enjoy Ice-man alot // Wim Hoff with his holding breath techniques. I live in a very big hippiecollective with 9 other people, we all have had diffrent walks in life but im staying here because i find this place very healing and is helping me to grow. I can discuss about life and listen to others what they have gone throught. I want to stay on this path, i feel i have grown into a person i actually have started to like, i have never loved myself and i feel im getting there, i have no anxiety anymore (or sometimes) and i dont feel suicidal like i have over many years in my life it has always been a struggle. I have started to look at the world with new eyes and i would greatly appricate if you can share anything at all about yourself or just books that you could recommend ect. (I still do psychedelics aka mushrooms for health benefits and not for fun) it helps me to think more clearer and helps me contemplate about stuff within myself. As Ram dass guru always said to him "Ram dass love everyone, don't tell lies" in reallity yes it's very hard to actually "love everyone", but something made me really think what Ram dass said. Ram Dasses guru only meant that he will help him love everyone and let go of anger, why is it so that spiritual people never are so direct with what they actually are saying? this raised a big question in my head or am i to blind to see? is this because i haven't awoken?`Am i not pure enought to understand? In my life i have had ALOT of anger inside of me, i have become much better with my anger, to the point i barley ever get angry anymore unlike i did before, i could explode over the smallest things. Is this because i have become better at "Nothingness"? sorry for the long post, i didn't mean to write this long, thanks for reading. [link] [comments] | ||

| Observing/watching thoughts from a distance Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:01 PM PDT Meditation for the most part I get, but what I don't get is observing thoughts from a distance and letting them go. Like how exactly do I do that? Do I focus on my breathe and EVERY single time I get a thought I watch it from a distance and let it go? Like can someone just explain the whole concept? | Transcending Lower to Higher Consciousness Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:13 PM PDT We all have trivial cravings and desires in our lower consciousness, unaware that they are controlling us, making us run after them. A big house is not going to make us happy unless we are happy in a small house making it our home. Our mind is composed of our conscious mind, subconscious and unconscious with our conscious mind being our small home. It is a small part of our brain's capability and potential so many people meditate to unlock the subconscious mental power or they use subliminal affirmations. Politicians and advertisers also use sensory information to manipulate us to do something, buy or respond to what they want us to react to, this reflex is similar to jumping when scared. Ohman and Soares measured the perspiration of participants in an experiment about the fear of snakes. They flashed pictures in front of them very fast of different objects so they couldn't decipher what they were, but when pictures of snakes where flashed, the participants began to sweat even without knowing what they saw. This experiment shows us that we have a low awareness of subliminal influences and that thought pollution can be a major threat to our happiness. The good thing is that we are not the thinker, but the observer so when we distance ourselves from our thoughts beautiful things happen. Adyashanti says, "There is nothing personal about your thoughts. They are just phenomena passing through awareness." We have little awareness of our subliminal influences, but we can rewire our thoughts to upgrade our brain and experiences by transforming to the spiritual, which is better than mental depression. It is not easy to change and transform into spirit, but it is worth it because everything we are looking for is not outside in the physical, but inside our consciousness. Our body and mind can work and do their jobs without us getting angry, annoyed and irritated if we realize we are the awareness behind them that is at peace in our higher consciousness. When we expand our awareness, we connect our unit consciousness with other unit consciousnesses so we have an expanded consciousness. Everything has consciousness because it is just energy carrying information, but it is at different frequencies with the higher vibrations uniting like three notes coming together to make one chord or one vibration. As our consciousness expands, doors open and we become stronger and are ready to experience the sweetness of our mental wellbeing and the bliss of our spiritual awakening. Lao Tzu said, "The key to growth is the introduction to higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness." To experience a higher state of being we must awaken and be aware of our surroundings in the present moment, call it mindfulness or wakefulness but it is just a high. We don't have to control our thoughts or achieve anything as we only need to stop our thoughts from controlling us by keeping us away from the present high. We get high when we are able to observe reality in different dimensions of consciousness, which is the essence of peace of mind. Happiness comes to those who are self aware in peace or as the Upanishads call it being in bliss. When we have a problem we get mad because we feel disrupted from our peace and when sad, we feel our peace has been taken away. Our highs come when we are positioned, in harmony with what is going on around us, which is the essence of peace. Peace is not given or taken away as it is transcending or rising above our petty desires to gain and benefit from a higher consciousness with the qualities of peace, love and wisdom. Albert Einstein said, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it." Every second we spend in higher consciousness appreciating what we have, raises the consciousness of the people around us, family, friends and in the world. We try to understand the world and our problems with our mind, but the problems and the world we believe in comes from our mind's projection. The mind is not capable of understanding higher consciousness because it only understands the perspective of subject and object. The mind is in duality and understands duality, but can't comprehend just Being, not two but one in unity with everything. The mind sees many things separated from each other, but leaving the mind, we perceive not two, not many, but only One. The flash of light in higher consciousness is pure bliss when we leave our mind for a second or two because in the mind, life doesn't get better, easier or uncomplicated so don't wait to be happy, be happy now in the present. Tagore sums it up in 3 quotes, "From the solemn gloom of the temple children run out to play in the dust. God watches them play and forgets the priests." His second quote is, "The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough." and the third, "Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storms, but to add color to my sunset sky." It does not matter what we are doing, we can be playing with a child, watching a movie, studying math, or playing video games as they all connect and are in tune with our consciousness. There are different levels of consciousness and they determine our reactions as they affect our behavior without speaking a language but speaking in low to high frequencies. When we use the word consciousness, we use it to indicate awareness or we use unconscious to show no awareness. We all have a normal, habitual, standard consciousness that we and others are accustomed to, but we also have our own way to reach a higher state of higher awareness. We reach higher states of mind by singing, chanting, sports, music, dancing, fasting, meditating or creative writing because they all alter our consciousness. When we alter our consciousness something changes within us, which could be our dopamine or serotonin levels or our higher or lower level of consciousness. When we are in our lower consciousness we react physically, by being defensive, blaming and arguing, but when we occupy our higher consciousness we move beyond our petty desires to think of others, love and enjoy bliss. The longer we spend in our higher consciousness, the greater the probability that what we hold in our mind will actualize. Sri Aurobindo said, "Outside and above the mind there is the play of a consciousness, which is lighted by the higher Truth, but man is not conscious of it and that he has to be conscious." Our next frontier is beyond our mind, our thoughts and reality as we evolve to a higher consciousness or experience, an altered state of consciousness is our evolution. In our unit consciousness there is a conscious mind, subconscious and unconscious and in an altered state we experience our super consciousness that in Christianity we say is holy, which is being whole in the one consciousness. This state is a deeper being of wholeness where we are a part of a greater whole, it is not making efforts to be perfect, but an acceptance and love of ourselves and others in wholeness. This love is not about flowers, or jewelry, but about unity and adapting to a higher level of love and unity in consciousness. Then we start employing that experience of nondual consciousness to understand more fully the love and unity of a mature spirituality. The experience of unity or wholeness is holiness in harmony, peace and love in a greater awareness that includes everything and everyone. Plontinus said, "If we are in unity with the Spirit, we are in unity with each other, and so we are all one." The path to a higher consciousness starts with love, unity and wholeness as Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." To do this we have to love our self first in a higher state, by being happy and open. Then to reclaim our higher self we need to reconnect with our spirit then unite with love in the one collective consciousness. This dynamic unity of love is in our consciousness which is a unit in our soul and as a collective it is labeled God, the collective consciousness. Love, unity and wholeness are one, entangled and impossible to separate so we see our neighbor as a part of our self. This harmony or harmonic of the universe is in the higher dimensions where we accept diversity and differentiation in duality, but also with unity in wholeness. We know we are on the path to wholeness and our higher consciousness when we sense the one consciousness that expands beyond our own. The one consciousness includes everyone and everything, that means it includes our lower self and our higher self so we want to evolve from our reptilian mind that is defensive to our holy mind that benefits from an expanded awareness. Sri Aurobindo said, "The one aim of my yoga is an inner self-development by which each one who follows it can in time discover the One Self in all and evolve a higher consciousness than the mental to a spiritual and sacramental consciousness which will transform and make divine our human nature." Eckhart Tolle said, "To realize that you are not your thoughts is when you begin to awaken spiritually." [link] [comments] | ||

| why does the top of my head, forehead and spine tingle during mediation? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:05 AM PDT when i meditate i get this uncomfortable tingling sensation at the top of my head, forehead and spine. the sensation in my spine can cause jerking movements because its just uncomfortable. its similar to being tickled and i need to move in order to stop the sensation. if i try not to move the sensation will just get stronger and more uncomfortable this also happens straight away, as in i dont need to be meditating for 5 minutes for this to happen. im aware that tingling sensations are something that you will feel during meditation but why does mine start so early and in such an uncomfortable way that makes it difficult to sit still. i either have to apply pressure to my forehead (eg with a pillow) to stop the sensation or move during the meditation to stop it. but after a while it will start again. why does this happen to me? is it normal for tingling sensations to be this way? | Transcendental Meditation and Dissociation? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:35 PM PDT Hi everyone I learned transcendental meditation 5 years ago and have been practicing it pretty regularly over the years but having recently been subjected to a lot of stress I have also actively been practicing it more regularly twenty minutes twice a day. Yesterday and today I had no time to do it and for the first time experienced states of dissociation. Anyone have the same experience? Thanks in advance I'm just trying to figure out wtf [link] [comments] | ||

| Meditating, migraines and insensitivity to sound cues Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:25 PM PDT Hey everybody, I need some advice about meditation. Some years ago, I used to meditate a little bit every day and it went really well, but now my situation is different and I don't know how to do it in a way that will make me more present and accepting instead of making me more nervous and disperse. What happens at the moment is that I have very severe chronic migraines (daily) which are affecting all aspects of my life extremely, and I am spending most of my time trying to distract myself from the pain in order to endure the time I have to wait for the various treatments I am trying to work. However, when I stop the distraction, I feel really restless and my mind wanders to every possible worry. I have tried to meditate using guided meditation recordings, but I have two issues: 1. I become more aware of the pain and I feel it more intensely and 2. My mind wanders to different worries so strongly that I don't even notice the sound cues, which means I spend the time "meditating" just ruminating over worries. So, because I don't notice the sound cues and I become more aware of the pain, meditating has been making me feel more anxious and tense, and not accepting and just aware as it should be. Using videos to meditate is not an option because I am photosensitive, but I thought if I had some tactile cue, like a vibration from my phone or another device, that might help me to come back to the present moment. Do you have any ideas that might help me in this situation, either techniques or simple devices/apps I could use? Any ideas are welcome, really. Thank you for reading and I wish you a nice day!
