I’m 14 and would love to mediate, but I have no idea how to do it. Posted: 11 Jul 2021 02:04 PM PDT I'd love to meditate, but I have no idea how to do it. So yeah, where do I start basically? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:21 PM PDT Just a reminder to be present, breath in, breath out, relax. 😊 "Presence" Practicing mindfulness involves focusing one's attention on one's immediate surroundings, sounds, and sensations, with the purpose of drawing the mind out of its busy chatter, and its anxious worry, and focusing only on the immediate present and the immediate surroundings: "To live mindfully is to live in the moment and reawaken oneself to the present, rather than dwelling on the past or anticipating the future." Edit: Added information pertaining to the state of consciousness (presence) so it's not just another "I need this" post. [link] [comments]
| "I have no problem because I don't demand anything from anybody, or from life." - J. Krishnamurti Posted: 11 Jul 2021 06:32 AM PDT
Not minding what happens is the essence of meditation and spirituality, it is allowing everything to be as it is, with no resistance. This doesn't mean that you don't act or speak up or just become a doormat, this is more about an inner openness to life. It's about accepting whichever form the present moment takes. I really love the quote in the title because if you understand it, it's very simple and intuitive and it can allow us to let go of trying to control things. Problems only arise because we mind what happens. If you're interested, the quote is from this video. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:52 AM PDT Today I had this insight during my sit (actually it came a bit after my sit). What if I really accepted all the problems in my life right now, just as they are? What if all the mistakes I've made, all the aspects of self I don't like, if I accepted those just as they are too. What if I accept my inner critic, my imperfect life situation, the various failures and shortcomings of the past, the anxiety of the future. What would happen? [link] [comments]
Wim Hof made me feel really weird Posted: 12 Jul 2021 01:33 AM PDT I have trouble sleeping due to anxiety and decided to try meditating for the first time last night in bed. I did 40 power breaths followed by exhaling and holding my breath for a few mins (I didn't feel oxygen deprived during this) then I inhaled and held it for 15 seconds. I did this entire cycle 4 times then just tried semi successfully to clear my mind. Throughout, my fingers we're tingling and I kinda felt like I could feel the blood flowing all through my body (not my heartbeat, this was weird and I don't really know how to explain it) and towards the end especially during the inhale followed by holding my breath for 15 seconds I could see kinda like a light blue colour slowly cover than uncover my vision kinda like a wave. Is this normal? I worry that it may have been from oxygen deprivation. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2021 01:01 PM PDT Staying present has always been a struggle for me. For many years, I'd look into my past and at all the shit I did wrong. I developed anxiety because I felt as if one day I'm going to have to pay for everything I did wrong. Meditation allows me to stay present though. Whenever I try to look into the past, my mind does not allow me to. It's like a glitch or something I can't really explain. The anxiety goes away. What's there to fear in the present? There isn't anything here. But at the same time everything is here. Good and bad are both here in the present. You can give your attention to either one. The ego loves paying attention to the bad tho. There's more drama for the ego to feed off of. [link] [comments]
Share what meditation gave you Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:04 AM PDT Hello everyone! I have only a little experience with meditation. but it scares me a lot that many sects use meditation to control people. meditation hurts with anxiety symptoms, but does not eradicate their cause. therefore, people cannot be critical of the harm from the sect. (about meditation and anxiety, my psychiatrist told me that meditation will not solve the problem). Can you share what meditation gave you, how your life has changed, what problems you were able to solve? as I often see advice to meditate in self-development books [link] [comments]
Really liking body scan....but why? Posted: 11 Jul 2021 10:06 PM PDT I'm really liking body scan meditations. Wonder why? Also, what's the research behind body scan? [link] [comments]
First deep meditational experience I think Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:35 AM PDT Only been meditating for a week and was able to go into a state of deep meditation I think. Sort of felt like I was dreaming and completely forgot I was meditating. Started hearing music and faintly seeing things in the blackness of my vision. Felt really good, just kept following the rhythm of my breath until I kept zoning out. Is there a chance I just fell asleep in my chair or was I just in a deep state of meditation? [link] [comments]
Meditation has helped me so much along with my antidepressants Posted: 11 Jul 2021 04:57 PM PDT I don't know if it's recommended to use both but now I do. I'm on a correct dose of medication and the meditation really works now. I'm hoping I can get more into meditation and decrease my dose of anxiety medication soon. 🙏🏽 [link] [comments]
If you’d had a chance to ask a question to a realized Master, what would you ask? Posted: 12 Jul 2021 01:54 AM PDT I'm happy to have a possibility to pass some deep and important questions to one, that does not want to have public appearance. So if anyone is interested, here's a chance. In case if the interest is high, I could organize an online live Q&A session. [link] [comments]
| Default Mode Network - The root of suffering. Posted: 12 Jul 2021 05:11 AM PDT I love neurosicence and i love meditation, and i had an insight to scientifically explain where suffering comes from. Hope you find it interesting for your practice and daily life: When your mind starts to wander a higly complex network called the default mode network (Dmn) apears on the scene. What does this dmn do? "The default mode network is known to be involved in many seemingly different functions: It is the neurological basis for the self: Autobiographical information: Memories of collection of events and facts about one's self Self-reference: Referring to traits and descriptions of one's self Emotion of one's self: Reflecting about one's own emotional state Thinking about others: Theory of mind: Thinking about the thoughts of others and what they might or might not know Emotions of other: Understanding the emotions of other people and empathizing with their feelings Moral reasoning: Determining just and unjust result of an action Social evaluations: Good-bad attitude judgments about social concepts Social categories: Reflecting on important social characteristics and status of a group Remembering the past and thinking about the future: Remembering the past: Recalling events that happened in the past Imagining the future: Envisioning events that might happen in the future Episodic memory: Detailed memory related to specific events in time Story comprehension: Understanding and remembering a narrative" So in short: The default mode network is your clone :)) (Matrix?) When you become unaware and you have to do things, when you disapear from awarness, the default mode network takes your place. The default mode network is the sense of self, the illusion of self that the Buddha talked about, that illusion apears when the mind starts wandering. If you are not aware of standing, the default mode network will stand in your place, if you are not aware of seeing the dmn will see for you, not aware of your thinking, the dmn will think for you - as you, not aware of hearing, the dmn will hear for you and act based on what qucik judgements it makes. | Would meditation stop me from committing suicide? I don't want to die young Posted: 11 Jul 2021 06:52 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm 21 male, sever OCD, anxiety, depression and as a result many intrusive thoughts. I recently started meditating and it helps me with the anxiety. I wonder how it will work long term. I'm really afraid of attempting suicide because I fear the possibility of surviving with a lot of physical damage. Currently I'm not suicidal, but I was the whole last year. I would like to know if meditation could help me reduce my intrusive thoughts, which are the reason why I might become suicidal again in the future. I'm desperately trying to find something that saves me because I feel like suicide will be nearly inevitable at some point, which saddens me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:09 AM PDT Hi people, Does meditation before learning improves ability to focus on learning object? I know that daily meditation improves ability to not get distracted, be more present and having stronger focus on doing things, but i particularly wanna know if meditation instantly before learning (in my example learning foreign languages) has helped you in that process. I''m starting meditating today and wanna know your opinions and impact meditation had on your learning. [link] [comments]
First Holotrophic breathwork experience Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:54 AM PDT Tried holotrophic breathwork for the first time. Feels like a large amount of weight has been lifted of my chest. One of the very few times in my life when I felt that there is no concept of time and space. It was magic. [link] [comments]
Meditated way too hard, maybe? Posted: 11 Jul 2021 07:40 PM PDT Hello! This maybe a silly question to ask, but I thought I would just ask. Is it "normal" to practice your meditation and then fall asleep? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:14 AM PDT Does anyone have any experience with using meditations as a means to control addictions? I'm struggling with an addiction and was wondering how to go about using meditation as a tool to battle it. Cheers [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2021 11:53 PM PDT People say clear your mind to meditate but then also say observe your thoughts. How can you observe your thoughts if you have no thoughts that makes no sense. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 11 Jul 2021 06:38 PM PDT I'm not a fan of actual white noise, or guided meditation. I also dislike meditating with music. Silent meditation is fine, but I personally prefer to use a story on audiobook as "background noise." Ideally a story I've heard before, or one which doesn't require much concentration. Children's stories are great for this! In other words, I like meditating to the sound of a human voice, but not one that's giving me instructions. What are your thoughts on my practice? | Posted: 11 Jul 2021 08:19 PM PDT This is what I get so far. Nihilism is not only the absence of a belief that is an intrinsic meaning in the universe, but also that trying to create your own as a substitute is just as meaningless. The dangers of meditation is that it can bring about insights that shatter one's fundamental illusions and that can result in an existential crisis, sometimes called the dark night of the soul. The definition I got is "a period of spiritual desolation / suffering in which all sense of consolation is removed". Hence these questions: Is there a link between meditation and existentialism, particularly, nihilism i.e.Does meditation, particularly insights from it, tend to make one nihilistic? If one is already nihilistic before meditating, can they still go through the dark night of the soul? [link] [comments] |
Learn pranayama, meditation and breathwork online Posted: 12 Jul 2021 04:31 AM PDT Was surfing the internet yesterday when I came across this almost-free yoga program by Ekattva Yogshala. Thank god I found it since I have been trying to learn breathwork, meditation, and pranayama but was putting it off due to huge fees charged by the nearby school. Here's the link to the online meditation classes India program [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:14 PM PDT Not sure if many are sports fans here but tennis player Novak Djokovic just won Wimbledon and is considered by many to be greatest player of all time. I have done lots of research on him and he claims meditation and "being present" is one of the biggest keys to his success. He is well known for winning high pressure games and considered to have the best mental game. Why would meditation help him ? From what I have read he seems to be able to focus on the current point in match he is playing and not let his mind wander to past points or future points or let his mind get caught up in the pressure of winning the game. Any thoughts on this ? [link] [comments]
Sleeping pattern on days with long periods of awareness on the body. Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:41 AM PDT Over the last 7-10 days, i spent lot of time in a day being aware of my physical body. I placed my awareness on my body and its parts rather than slipping/escaping into thoughts and imaginations. If i got distracted, i would bring awareness back to my body. During this time period, i noticed that i slept differently. I could not deep sleep. I slept with my awareness pointing to the brain area, something sort of partly awake, being aware of the worries that i had during the day. (Usually, i sleep with rushy thoughts and dreams.) Is this normal? Or has some mistake in my practice led to this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:36 AM PDT Is a Zafu and Zabuton really necessary? What do y'all use? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 03:35 AM PDT Intense head pressure when deep breathing, even going only moderately and for not very long. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks [link] [comments]
