    Made a rookie mistake

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:02 PM PDT

So I recently was tagged on Instagram in one of those "see it send it" posts to do an inversion. I tried like 4 times and it was no big deal but because I had not done an inversion before, I didn't really think about my neck and put quite a bit of weight on my vertebrae where I shouldn't have. My neck and back are both very sore today, wondering if I should be worried at all??

Folding from the hips - the stretch on the ____(?)

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:27 AM PDT

Hello yogis! When I fold from my hips in forward fold, seated head to toe, etc. Poses I have a really hard time having a straight back. But when I fold my knees I manage to go down when the a straight back. Here comes the weird part: I don't feel a stretch in the hamstrings, I feel two stretches at the top of my hips, not going down my leg. Has this happened to you? How do I fix it? What does it mean? Help me please, online yoga teachers as good as they are don't address such weird sensations but speak of hamstring stretches... Please any information will be useful! Thank you! Have a good day! Stay save and social distance!

Muscle fatigue after 10 mins - Beginner

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 03:35 PM PDT

First some backstory: I'm a male in my early thirties. Have always had very stiff muscles. I can't even touch my ankles when just bending forward. A doctor confirmed that I am a lot less flexible than normal people a long time ago but because I only played football (European), I never worked on it.

A while back I started rock climbing and you need at least some flexibility in your hips for that so I started yoga during the quarantine. I usually only have the energy to complete 10 mins of a yoga sessions because I feel like my muscles are just going to get torn of if I just stay sitting cross legged. It's so painful.

Does anybody have a similar story here? If so, did this change quickly or does it take a long time to fix this?

I try to do 3 short yoga sessions on the same day so that my muscles have a bit of time to relax again. I don't know if this is any good?

What would be considered "the basics?"

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 08:48 AM PDT

I'm just getting into the yoga and keep seeing that it's best to develop a mastery of "the basics." While mastery of any sort is way down the line, can anyone help to clarify what these basics are? I'm assuming it's sort of the yoga equivalent to squats, dead lifts, etc. - a series of fundamental movements that should be incorporated in one's daily practice. But that's just an assumption. Help?
