Meditations has changed me in every way Posted: 31 Mar 2020 03:28 PM PDT I've been meditating off and on for a year. My ex (lover, bf?) introduced me. At first I found it difficult then I found it relaxing. Now that I walked away from that relationship it's been life changing. I've been doing it everyday for 15 minutes and I cry every time. It's been hard for me to cope with the pain of losing him and when I mediate it brings a rush of intense emotion and then a calm. I feel like it truly has given me inspiration, resolve, and hope. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 03:40 PM PDT Like many, I've been very stressed lately. I decided to take 5 minutes and meditate. I chose to sit cross-legged in my bed, keeping my hands on my knees. It felt natural. I closed my eyes and tried to envision the ocean crashing in on the out breath, and going out to sea on the in breath. This wasn't my first try at meditation, but lately I've gained a better understanding of it. So I set a timer for five minutes, closed my eyes and focused on my breath. Becoming aware. I am afraid, but it is not irrational and it is not infinite. I also noticed while I focused more on my surroundings, instead of my thoughts, I slowly begin to sit up a little taller, allowing my chest to open up more, naturally. I'm going to do this again tomorrow. [link] [comments] |

Restoring a meditation practice after developing chronic fatigue syndrome Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:01 AM PDT I've been meditating 20-40+ minutes per day with maybe 1-3 days missed from May 15th 2018 to March 6th 2020. I have barely meditated since then, and teach time I try I last about 3 minutes before my mind blanks out and I get disoriented and put in stasis in a weird bodily position. Does anyone have any tips for trying to persist with this practice through compromising health issues? Meditation was a solid rock and I was so excited that I kept with it for so long. I feel the significant difference in my mind--I want my meditation-buffed, quiet mind back :/ [link] [comments] |
If meditation or mindfulness isn't about stopping thoughts , then what is the benefit or purpose ? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:24 PM PDT I'm not trying to be controversial by asking this but I believe a lot of people are confused by this , if the goal isn't to stop thoughts then what is the goal ? In regards to mindfulness , I've read or seen answers where people say to observe thoughts but then what separates observing thoughts from plain old thinking? Then I hear or see reading on another definition of mindfulness which is "to redirect your focus or attention to the present moment", by noticing and placing awareness on sensations like the breath , body scanning etc. In doing this aren't you not thinking ? Because wouldn't narrating the process of the breath (ex: mentally saying " I feel my breathing in my nostrils) defeat the purpose ? You should just feel the act of breathing not describe it mentally correct ? In the process of being present with the breath you're not thinking or mentally narrating the process but rather feeling. So why do people say we shouldn't try stop thinking when redirecting our focus to the present interrupts our thoughts ? Also what does meditation do for us if it's not about stopping thoughts ? How does it relax us ? [link] [comments] |
Helpful tip with being isolated with family. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:30 PM PDT If your family is disturbing you with all the close proximity and you can't find any peace, the most useful thing I've found is NOISE cancelling headphones. The good quality ones that cover your ears. The amount of reading, writing and meditating that I can get done despite all the bad stuff going on around me is a blessing. I hope this finds who it needs to. [link] [comments] |
Which books have helped many of you on your path to and through meditation? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 08:57 AM PDT I've meditated for many years on and off. Usually going off the wisdom of credible YouTube that have definitely helped. But I'm not getting the full picture nor consistency as I had hoped. I know there are many like me. Please share any books that have helped you gain insight and have strengthened your meditational practices. Peace and love 💙 [link] [comments] |
Those who meditate a lot: does it stop the running narrative in your head? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 05:36 PM PDT This is something that confuses me a lot about meditating. All my waking moments I have a running narrative in my head, except for when I am totally immersed in work. Otherwise it's there, even when I'm talking to other people. For sure, meditation makes it clearer and slower and I can observe it as part of me and not me (if I've got even that much right about mindfulness). I want to get back into meditation but I'm also a writer, and I like the ideas and dialogue this narrative sometimes throws up. So I'm a bit confused, should my ultimate goal to be to stop this voice completely? The last time I seriously meditated using Headspace I was being told to take the mindfulness with me after meditating. I got good at this and enjoyed it, I could meditate and then say do a few chores with a very calm mind, no voice. But as I'm trying to say, is the goal to have that all day? [link] [comments] |

Help with depersonalization/anxiety Posted: 31 Mar 2020 08:27 PM PDT Hello, everyone. About a week ago, I took LSD and have been having sort of a rough time since then. I've done LSD several times before but have never had after effects like this. Sometimes I feel hyper-aware of everything happening around me and can make me very anxious. For instance, I was playing a board game tonight with my dad when all of a sudden I got a rush of thoughts of everything that was happening. I kind of forgot who I was and what was happening, but then I got myself back into a good place. Getting slight feeling of depersonalization is very scary and detrimental. Can meditation help get my mind back to where it was? I want to feel like myself again and not be anxious :( . Thank you, all [link] [comments] |
Which book has made my journey of meditation to a next Level ? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:24 AM PDT My father found a book from his friend named Gyan Ganga. This book was not for me but I read it just coz of curiosity to know more about spirituality so I read it and what i found was incredible, this book shows the True path of complete salvation. Till that date I was not interested in this salvation ( Moksha) stuff but that book was having so much to know. The most important thing was that there was a map of the whole universe that portraits where our soul goes after we die. One should my read Book Gyan Ganga. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:58 AM PDT I have a similar problem with sleep as well. Basically, when I'm focusing on my breath, I know I'm supposed to allow the thoughts to come and go. But the more I try to do this, the more aware of 'letting go' I become. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Any good subscripton free meditation apps? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:31 PM PDT Seems like there are a lot of good meditation apps out there in the Appstore but almost all of them require you to pay money to access all the features and audios. [link] [comments] |

Cold Sensation during meditation Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:23 PM PDT I was wondering does anyone know what it means when are extremely cold after meditation. Yesterday I did a session to ground myself after feeling super anxious once i was done this wave of coldness hit me. I know that experiences vary for everyone. I have been doing meditation now for a year so trying to understand why I feel certain emotions and feelings after. [link] [comments] |
Mind Wanders To A Horror Setting Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:09 PM PDT Hi there, Tonight was my first time meditating in probably 8-10 years. I tried just a 10 minute session, and the guide had me find a tranquil place. I thought of a memory where it was just me and my two boys, playing in a forest. I'm sitting in a chair, watching them have fun in a slow run and joyful laugh. Suddenly, my mind flashes to a dark shadow of a girl in the background and there is a menacing blue aura behind her. Reminded me of the girl from The Ring. It kept reappearing throughout the session and I couldn't shake it. It was very disturbing and obviously a major distraction. What could this be and will this stop? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Do all people who meditate for a long time become woke? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:05 PM PDT |
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 07:09 PM PDT I am following this sub from as long as I have joined Reddit, and I have always read about success stories, like how it changed them, and how it was like their last resort. I am not trying to spread negativity here but is there anyone who thinks that even meditation is not working for them. How much they meditate they are not seeing any difference? It could be because of lack of proper practice or meditation is just not for them. Has this happened to anybody? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:55 PM PDT Hi, I'm new to meditating. I haven't been doing it for very long but I've been enjoying it, the other day I had an amazing experience. My mind felt so incredibly clear and quiet (I have a problem with an overactive mind that makes me struggle to focus/sleep etc) and I felt so relaxed and calm after I had finished. I would love to feel that way again. However every time I've tried to meditate after I just can't seem to get into it; I keep getting distracted easily, I can't get comfortable, I can't focus on my breaths etc and I can't understand why. Has anyone experienced this and overcome it? Is this normal? Do I just need to keep trying? Any help would be appreciated ! [link] [comments] |
