Stretching the top of thigh/ front hip region (upper rectus femoris/ front hip flexor?) Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:55 PM PDT Can someone help me out and provide some suggestions for stretching the area between the tfl and groin. Im clearly no expert, but I believe this would be called the front hip flexor or upper rectus femoris, though Im not entirely sure. Ive done a solid amount of research and it seems like everyone suggests the kneeling/ lean forward stretch but unfortunately I cant do this because of knee pain. Any feedback would be appreciated! Hip flexors during seated pike stretch Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:26 PM PDT I've been working on my standing pike stretch which is going well, but when i try to do seated pike stretch i cant even erect my back unless my thigh muscles tighten and work overdrive (i cant even make a perfect L). are the hip flexor muscles supposed to be activated this much during a seated pike stretch? im thinking i have weak hip flexors... also is it possible to even sit up in a perfect L?? What are your tips on the splits for beginners? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:14 PM PDT Hi, everyone! I'm new to this sub. I have some ballet experience so I'm moderately flexible, but not impressively so. I want to use this extra quarantine time to gain flexibility, and especially learn how to do the splits (I can't do a split at all and was never able to, so I'm starting completely from scratch). I'm not in a rush—I'll be happy with getting it in 1-3 months, but I'll give my body the time it needs. What are some tips for making consistent progress when it comes to splits? And what are your tips on staying motivated to stretch everyday to reach your goals? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:21 PM PDT Hi all, so unfortunately I heard a horrific popping sound as I was deepening into my splits. It didn't immediately hurt but the next day I was walking with a limp. I'm honestly not sure what I tore exactly and I can't see a PT because of Covid. The pain was initially centralized behind my knee but the next day I felt pain in my glute and behind my thigh so I believe it was my hamstring. It's been almost exactly 3 weeks since the injury and the pain is gone but I'm certain I've lost some flexibility in my hammie :( Anywho I'm wondering when it would be safe to start stretching and dancing again. I'm a dancer and haven't danced or stretched at all since the injury happened. I've seen different time frames depending on the grade of the injury but it's tough because I'm not even sure what grade injury I have. Everywhere I look it says that a popping noise means grade 2 or 3 but I feel like if it was a grade 3 the pain would've been immediate and I wouldn't have been able to walk. I had difficulty walking the next day but aside from that I only felt pain when bending down to touch my toes and that pain is gone at this point. I'm just nervous to rush back into stretching/dancing if it hasn't completely healed but I'm also worried I will lose strength and flexibility the longer I remain inactive. So yeah, I'm wondering if anyone here has torn their hamstring while stretching, and if so how long did it take you to heal and go back to your training. Any insights or suggestions from your recovery experience would be helpful! [link] [comments]
Super tight hips and hamstrings Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:53 AM PDT I have super tight hips and hamstrings due to being born with hip dysplasia. In the past, I've had to go to physical therapy for this issue due to lack of mobility. I have been stretching daily (for about 15-30 minutes a day) since January and it has helped a bit, but I feel like some areas I have not made any progress. Just recently I started getting into yoga again and have been doing a 40 minute deep stretching routine, with a strong focus on hamstring stretches, on top of my daily stretching. I am someone who is very active and slim, and I used to go to the gym regularly and worked an active job before everything shut down. Now, I am still staying active but mostly through walking and running (as well as the stretching previously mentioned). Since getting back into yoga, my hips and hamstrings feel so sore after and sometimes even feel tighter right after. Has anyone beat tight hips and hamstrings, especially if they have had hip dysplasia? My goal is by the end of the year to do the splits, but sometimes I feel so discouraged by not seeing as much progress as I would like. [link] [comments]

Pins & needles when stretching Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:13 AM PDT Hey guys, for years now I've had tight muscles particularly lower body which has always hindered me doing compound lifts at the gym. I've been told I have tight hamstrings, hips etc. When trying to address this, particularly the hamstrings and calfs, when i stretch I always start to get pins & needles in my feet. I never really feel the stretch in my hamstrings it's always at the back of the knee and into the calf. Is there something wrong? I feel like my sciatic nerve is locking up and stopping me stretching properly and making any progress. When I try to put more depth to a stretch I have to back off cause of the pins & needles. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
