Slow progress is still progress! Very inconsistent practice for three years but I aim to feel ‘comfortable’ in my body however far off the ground I am. My body doesn’t respond well to me doing anything too fast. Still working on active flexibility! For anyone struggling: keep going!!

    Hip pain with butterfly stretch?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:50 AM PDT

In a my years of dancing and stretching, I've never been able to significantly progress on my butterfly because every time I do it there's this sharp pain i get right in the joint of my hip and pelvis, sometimes even in my tailbone. Its never gotten easier and I've never been able to see a difference in how far I can go before its too much. It feels as if I need to pop something to make it go away, but it hurts too much to push that far. Its not anything like hamstring pain for splits (I've stretched to full splits on both sides over a few years) or anything else. Anyone have advice or explanations?

I've just begun my journey into flexibility & core strength after neglecting my body for way too long, and I found out about Yoga with Adrienne through this sub. She's bloody amazing!

I just want to thank everyone who so generously shares their sources & links :)

Is it normal to not see any progress after almost 1 month of stretcing my back legs?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:14 AM PDT

My legs are super inflexible, that i can't do a straight legged forward fold at all since my legs would only bent at 100-degrees-something max. So, I decided to do yoga everyday by watching 30 days of yoga from Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube (Great yoga channel, by the way!) and I still can't see any progress at 25 days. Is this normal for some people who are inactive aside from doing yoga everyday?

Is there a limit to how "far" someone Contortion?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:29 AM PDT

I've sort of come a long way when it comes to stretching- I was born with no physical talent or affinity for contortions, but in 6th grade I tried very hard and was eventually able to do the front left splits (still working on that) and back walkover. But that's about it, I've never been able to do the contortions that freak people out- just the standard gymnast stretches.

I was wondering whether there is a limit to how flexibile someone can be....

After 7th grade I eventually gave up trying. It's been about 5 years and I realized how much I wished i was more flexible but never got to reach my goal.Would love to hear any advice or facts, thanks for readhing this

edit: meant to say (still working on that middle splits and right front splits)

    How to improve hip imbalances?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:44 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I suffer from really tight hips but mainly my right hip (mainly the hip flexors). I've noticed how tight it is this past year thanks to practicing yoga.

Anyone know why these imbalances happen? How can I improve my hip flexibility?

Cant Touch Toes - Where is the problem ? Hips, Calves or Hamstrings

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:12 PM PDT

Im a programmer by trade, in mid 30s, so sitting for long periods of time in my bad habit. Over this quarantine I decided to improve my flexibility and strength. I started by following Tom Merricks stretching, flexibility tutorials along with strength exercise.

Its during this that I discovered that when doing anything hamstring related, I feel it most in the calves. Not in the knee, but right in the calf ( on both legs ). When i bent my leg at the knee, then I could feel it right in the hamstring. I read the wiki and they recommended keeping the knee straight, but till I dont bend the knee I never feel it in the hamstring.

Reading some more it seems the issue can be tightness in calves, weakness in hips, sciatic nerve issues etc. Is there any way I can test where and narrow down where the issue is ? Any recommendations for other exercises, stretches I should do to chart a go forward plan.

    Leg stretcher for middle splits

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT

Has anyone tried a leg stretcher for middle splits? Those machines that you pull towards you and the bars push your legs out? What are your experiences?

    Uncomfortable adductor stretch

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:18 AM PDT

Whenever I try to stretch my adductor the stretch feels painful and extremely rarely it feels good. It's the most difficult muscle to push my limits stretching with. Same goes for calves. Does anyone have some ideas on how to stretch them in a better way?

Right know I sit down with my feet together (butterfly?) and let my legs sink deeper slowly. For calves I sit down and reach for my feet.

    Knee Pain

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:50 AM PDT

Wondering if anyone can suggest some potential suggestions on what might be causing my knee pain as I can't get in to see my physiotherapist.

I'm feeling pain in the area of the bottom part of my right kneecap (patella). Its noticeable when I do lunges and also lately when running. Backstory - Fall of 2019 i was having some inner knee issues on this same knee (my knee would buckle inwards when squatting) and the problem was my hips were too tight which wasnt allowing my inner adductor to stretch as much as it needed. This is resolved but now this is a new symptom
