    Advice for Lotus

    Posted: 03 May 2020 08:45 AM PDT

Hi, I'm a beginner at this, I'm trying to develop a habit of practicing on a daily basis. Recently I strained my outside knee while trying to bind. Does anyone have any advice for positions to help reduce the strain on my left outside knee when in lotus, its mildly painful.

I understand that increasing the flexibility in other muscles should allow my leg to travel higher allowing less pressure on my knee.

I would love some advice. Thank you.

    Yoga and body size

    Posted: 03 May 2020 07:40 PM PDT

Hi all! I am slowly coming back to ashtanga after a couple of years apart, and the main difference I'm noticing in this return is I can't do certain things as easily due to my changed body!

I am in recovery from an eating disorder and doing well. Very happy and bigger than I used to be. I find certain poses that used to come easily are not accessible to me. Lotus for example, and following that, utpluthih. Doing other types of yoga I've noticed I can't do eagle or pincha. It's not because I'm weaker, but because I have more weight to balance or more flesh in the way in these poses.

I would love to hear if anyone else has experienced this too! I know... practice.

If anyone else has experienced this or just noticed the differences of practicing with a bigger body it would be great to hear about that. Have you found certain poses become accessible after enough practice? Not lamenting by any means, but exploring this new version of my body practicing.
