    Anterior pelvic tilt

    Anterior pelvic tilt

    TL;DR at bottom.

Hi guys, first post, but a long time stalker here. I was reading up about flexibility in general when I stumbled across the anterior pelvic tilt, and pretty much saw my own body shape in the explanatory diagrams. For years I'd assumed this was just the way I was built (and why trousers never fit me!) even referring to it as my centaur posture! I think it's now somewhat better than it was seeing as I've been doing a whole body stretch routine and incorporating mobility into everyday life e.g. sitting on the floor and doing yoga poses in front of the TV.

    https://preview.redd.it/gvis9f2gizz41.jpg?width=1554&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd90d041f8bbecca91a40894e03e6f2da5ece661

Picture on the left is me in a relaxed pose, where you can see the waistband tilting downwards, stomach slightly protruding and backside out. Picture on the right is of me in what feels like a stress position (no pain but glutes and and quads are really contracting- feels like I'm butt clenching). Whilst it's tense it "feels" correct. I think. I get the feeling the waistband is a good indicator too although this may be a red herring.

So, my question is: is this an example of anterior pelvic tilt? I'm wary of self diagnosis and don't want to start a remedial strengthening/stretching exercise if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Any of your experiences of this would really be appreciated- thank you!

TL;DR: Pic on left is me relaxed, but I think I am showing anterior pelvic tilt. Pic on right, I think I'm in the posture I should be in but I'm really tense. Do I have/show anterior pelvic tilt?

Edit: Added pic. My original post was taken down by a bot, and I think stripped of the image.

Thanks so much for your responses so far- really useful!

    Sideways pelvic rotation in lunges

    Posted: 20 May 2020 10:52 AM PDT

Office worker, sitting too much. I've been stretching a bit over the past few weeks because I've been really tight all around the hips/hamstrings/glutes. I see lots of videos from very fit people doing stretches in lunge position, and all are filmed from the side. When I do those it seems like the pelvis of the front leg is higher: https://imgur.com/oWgZUhM If I try to correct this I only end up with a very slanted back leg as my pelvis rotates to a more horizontal position but the hip also goes further sideways on the side of the back leg. I'm also not able to tuck the tailbone under as the quad muscles then try to work in two different direction and I end up with a pulled muscle.

Am I doing something wrong and if so how could I correct this?

    Splits

    Posted: 20 May 2020 05:33 PM PDT

I am 19 now and when I was 18 I started stretching and working on splits. I first, had my right split like the most people. Later That, I had my left split. But suddenly I don't know what happened, I don't remember an injury, I lost my right split. For a long time I couldn't be able to sit my right split. I had just the left split. Now, I improved my right split again but it still hurts. Not like the old times. I am better at my left split. Which is weird because it was my bad side. I still struggle with my right leg. I don't know why... the most hurting part is my hip joint. Anyone know what happened to my right leg?

    Knees hurt after stretching/workout

    Posted: 20 May 2020 11:42 AM PDT

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well! So, I recently (about a month or so) I started doing yoga and stretches to gain some flexibility and also some home workouts. For some background I used to do ballet when I was a teen and was always pretty flexible and fit. After a few sessions of stretching I noticed my knees started feeling very tight but figured it would go away after a few more practices. But it hasn't. I don't want to stop stretching nor do I want to stop working out but I'm scared this might get worse. I found that when I do lunges the tightness is more intense and this had never happened to me before.

I'm sorry if this is a little all over the place I just didn't know where to begin.

Thank you in advance. Stay healthy :)

Losing ankle mobility when knee is bent

    Posted: 20 May 2020 10:42 PM PDT

From a standing position, I can drive my knee to the wall without my heel leaving the ground with my toes a little less than 6 inches away. However, when I do the same thing in a lunge position, I can barely get to the wall from 3 inches out. Anyone know what could be causing this? I'm very confused because some ankle mobility assessments say I pass with flying colors, and others indicate severe restrictions.

difficult sitting on ground with legs straight infront of me

    Posted: 20 May 2020 08:00 AM PDT

hey guys so ive always had difficulty in this position. i definitely have tight hamstrings (cant touch my own feet) but i have been consistently working on my hamstrings and have seen great improvement and im almost touching my feet now. yet, still sitting in this position is difficult. could there be something else that is an issue?

a seated toe touch is an impossible dream due to this. trying to figure out what the issue is and how i can possibly manage it. any advice is greatly appreciated

can't seem to get my splits fully down

    Posted: 20 May 2020 04:39 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I have been stretches on and off for 6 years. I have been stretching consistently for 2 years now but I can't seem the get the last bit of my left splits down without bad form (back leg bent and no square hips) what can I do?

here is an image, this is my left split. my right split is worse. also general question can I stretch for my middle splits even though I don't fully have my right splits down or should I wait till I get my left and right splits down first?

    Tips for getting splits?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 01:46 PM PDT

I haven't practiced much yet, but I really want to get my splits this quarantine, or at least get closer. Right now I'm really far off of the ground. Does anyone have any tips for getting closer down?

How do I stop pins and needles/numbness in my arms and hands when doing a bridge?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:23 AM PDT

I read that the tingling is caused when you lengthen the nerves too suddenly which makes sense, but I don't know how to get around that when doing a bridge. It's been the only thing stopping me from holding the position for more than 3 seconds.

I also have very hypermobile shoulders so maybe I'm twisting them in a weird way and putting stress on my nerves?

In the beginning stages, is there a general recommendation on how often to stretch?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 06:12 AM PDT

I've been stretching each morning almost 7 days a week for the past month and while I've seen improvement, to me it feels marginal.

I'm curious if simply once a day is not enough "practice?" Along with this I climb the stairs in my condo twice (28 files total) plus do bodyweight exercises.

I do have hip impingement issues and definitely still feel quite stiff overrall. Curious for peoples opinions and thoughts related to their own progressions.
