    Meditation: I was sad today

    Meditation: I was sad today

    I was sad today

    Posted: 20 May 2020 06:23 PM PDT

But I was able to recognize it, explore it, and let it pass. Then I felt this gratitude immediately after. This was just during the day, outside of meditation. First time this has happened to me in a year and a half.

I know meditation is good for me, my brain thinks I'm wasting precious time.

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:29 AM PDT

I have done meditation before. But I never stick to it. I always think the mornings are best to set you up for the day but this is when I'm at my most creative - so my brain wants to create. By the time the afternoon and evening rolls around I then just want to exercise and unwind with books and TV. I know the time to meditate is worth it, but it's as though my subconscious doesn't agree with that and I can't seem to stick to the habit. Has anyone got any hacks/words of wisdom to create a long-lasting habit with this? Thanks

Thoughts on “The Midnight Gospel” on Netflix?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:53 PM PDT

This show really opened my eyes up to meditation and while a few episodes are kind of out there, they have a powerful undertone in which the creator Duncan Trussell mentions various forms of meditation and the importance of staying present. Have you guys seen it?

Little quote from Murakami I like

    Posted: 20 May 2020 12:54 PM PDT

Found in his memoir 'What I talk about when I talk about running'. Just thought it was a nice little simile reflecting the true nature of thoughts and the way they arise in consciousness.

"The thoughts that occur to me (while I'm running) are like clouds in the sky. Clouds of all different sizes. They come and they go, while the sky remains the same sky as always. The clouds are mere guests in the sky that pass away and vanish, leaving behind the sky. The sky both exists and doesn't exist. It has substance and at the same time doesn't. And we merely accept that vast expanse and drink it in."

I bought a book about doing nothing and my dad didn't like it.

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:09 PM PDT

I bought 'How To Be Idle' by Tom Hodgiknson recently after seeing it recommended on this sub and it arrived today. My dad saw the title and it triggered him and he started going on about how I should go to work more like other people my age and so on. He was like "All your friends go to work do you think it's because they like it? blah blah blah..." and I was thinking to him it doesn't really matter whether I'm happy or not, as long as I'm conforming to his idea of how I'm supposed to live. The truth is I'm happy at home in my room meditating, reading and making music. I don't expect anything from anybody or from life, and I feel more at peace now than I've ever felt.

Before I walked away from the conversation he said "I'm not happy with you" and I was thinking how is that my problem? He's the one who is unhappy, not me. Anyway, him being triggered by the book has made me excited to read it.

Can i meditate while angry, sad or with anxiety?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 02:43 PM PDT

Letting go means surrendering. Surrendering to life doesn't mean dying. It means you come to life.

For ladies - PMS and meditation

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:27 PM PDT

Do you find it much harder to meditate when you are pmsing? I still meditate but my mind wonders and is much harder to stay focused even throughout the day to control intrusive thoughts.

Anyone have any tips? My teacher is a man and can't help with this topic.

    Thank you.

I’m new at this and I could use some guidance and help...

    Posted: 21 May 2020 12:10 AM PDT

So I guess I'll be honest about my life, it's not going the best I lost my job because of this virus stuff and I've been stuck at home with my family and they've been driving me absolutely crazy plus they are making me mad all the time, I have no friends that live around me because they all moved away and most of them stop talking to me, and last but not least my love life well….I have a little to no experience basically it's almost nonexistent and I'm just angry because I am 23 years old and I have nothing to show for my life. I've graduated high school in college, got a very good entry job for radio and it's been nice but.... I've always done everything everyone tells me to do but when I do it I get yelled at.... My life could be worse but I'm just so tired of being angry and sad and depressed so I think meditation might help me with my thinking and emotions. If there is any advice that you could give me that would great thank you!

What do you think while meditating?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:07 PM PDT

I started meditating every morning since past week. I just play a random meditation music from youtube as a background and meditate for about 30 minutes. However, I'm not sure whether you I should think about anything or try not to think about anything while meditating. Is there a proper way of doing this?

Is our world going to collapse?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 06:57 PM PDT

I am sincerely worried about the world, the climate change and our finite resources. Is our world going to collapse? What should we do to prevent that?

Today will be my first day of meditation

    Posted: 20 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT

Hello guys, I decided that today I'll start my journey of meditation.

So I have some questions that I hope someone can answer them :

    1. What are the things that we do can ruin our meditation ?

    2. How do I know if my meditation was successful ?

    3. How do I do it ?

Am I Feeling How It’s Supposed To Feel?

    Posted: 21 May 2020 02:07 AM PDT

I've never been great at keeping a consistent meditation schedule, let alone being able to keep the twice a day transcendental meditation method.

I have recently gotten back into meditation and trying to figure out how it's supposed to work, as I've never paid any money to go get taught officially, even though I've been thinking about wanting to.

I can't say for certain if what I'm doing is correct, or even if my infrequent routines would allow me to get any benefit like some people say they achieve from meditation.

I usually sit cross legged with my back up against the wall, sometimes I catch myself slouching and have to readjust my back to be straight again.

I like to count from 1 to 10 as that helps me get into a trance better than the 'ooom' mantra which I've never been great at keeping up without trailing off in thought.

A handful of times I have gotten to that light/weightless feeling state where it feels like I'm inside my own head just kind of becoming aware of how still my body is and being able to remember to relax different body parts and feel the easing of them.

Is that what people who practice meditation strive to get to every time? Whenever I meditate I kind of hope it happens and sometimes I know how to get to it, other times I will just sit silently and continue breathing and trying to relax myself instead of straining to 'do it right'.

Can y'all confirm if what I'm feeling is the right thing to happen when meditating? Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks!

    Meditation with psilocybin (magic mushrooms)

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:57 PM PDT

Do you have any expierences with meditating while on psilocybin/lsd? I have expierenced fully ego-death while meditating with weed. Psilocybin is a much stronger catalyst thought so I'm expecting a much stronger expierence. I wanna start with a low dose and then slowly move higher. Any advise?

The knower does not know anything until he knows both sides.

Then at once, he knows that he does not know

And all you have to remember is "you" don't know

And to remember you have to forget

Is there a difference between breathing and meditation?

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:58 PM PDT

I ask because I rarely do seated meditation (where you actually focus on the breath) and instead just breath deeply when I'm walking around.

Visualizing my thoughts as a noisy communication center helps!

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:41 PM PDT

I always hear people saying they envision their thoughts as clouds drifting by, but my thoughts never feel very cloud-like. They feel urgent and noisy and frantic. The other day it just came to me that they are like a busy communications center, and I imagine all of the beeps and boops and Morse-code like noises. It helped me to detach from them a little bit and consciously block out the "noise". It helped to minimize them as just yep, that's just the busy communications center, always lots going on there, nothing to be too worried about. Thought it might be interesting to share.

I wanna try meditation but I've never done it before what are some tips to getting started

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:21 PM PDT

I’m confused on what to do.

    Posted: 20 May 2020 07:04 PM PDT

I've been looking at different things on meditating but I'm just not sure how to start meditation and what to do so I thought I'd ask you guys. I don't want to do anything religious or like that I'm just trying to see what it's like to meditate. If you could give a name or directions on what to do I would greatly appreciate it.

    New breathing exercise today

    Posted: 20 May 2020 09:09 PM PDT

Today I realized that I could inhale by using two different methods - inhaling through my chest or through my stomach. Is one way supposed to be done over the other to be more effective?

Have any of you experienced seemingly psychedelic effects after meditation?

    Posted: 21 May 2020 12:18 AM PDT

I've recently started meditating with Sam Harris' Waking Up podcast. I've given the app multiple tries in the past that didn't last long at all, but the streak I'm currently on has been the longest at 7 days.

Today, I did the usual 10 minutes, but I felt like I was "going deeper" than I had in previous days, so I continued meditating for what was probably around 5 minutes. Afterwards, I went downstairs. It was night time and the stairway was dimly lit, and I noticed that the way the light reflected off of the stairs looked unusually shimmery. I turned on a light and things seemed a little trippy, then a section of the floor rippled for a few seconds in psychedelic fashion, after which point I was unable to find anything obviously trippy.

Have any of you experienced something like this before? I was and have been totally sober for a while, but I tried LSD once and some visual aspects of that trip have stayed with me permanently, so that may very well have had something to do with this experience.
