Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.

I can do a split with my other leg but this is me trying to work my left leg. Happy Sunday!

    Posted: 03 May 2020 06:42 PM PDT

Hey guys! I’m doing a little zoom hang out at 7PM Eastern time today. It’s 100% free and I’ll be going through a splits workshop. Lmk if you’re interested! also I hope this isn’t considered an ad since I’m not asking for money I just want friends :D

Why does everyone on this sub want to do the splits?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 11:39 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

New to this sub! I've always been interested in flexibility or some reason and have decided to try ya more attention to it during quarantine. I really helps me with breathing and weight lifting plus I just enjoy it!

My question is why is everyone so focused on doing the splits. It seems like that's the main stretch everyone is aiming for on this sub. Am I missing something? Obviously being flexible is Important I'm general but why the hips and why the splits?

    No judgment just really curious.

Hurt left peroneal tendon (?) when training for front splits. How should I go about it?

    Posted: 04 May 2020 03:08 AM PDT

I'm following this challenge, and somehow hurt my left peroneal tendon while doing the second exercise - at least that's what I think I hurt!

This started 3 days ago, and it's been getting worse each time. I know something is wrong because nothing feels sore, the pain is more like a sting, like I'm being prickled with a needle. Today it persisted for a few seconds/minutes after I finished. The pain is now also present in a few different exercises, such as the classic toe reach. I think it pulls on it when I make an effort to keep the foot flat on the ground.

Does anyone have any idea of what this is, how I got it, and how I can go about healing it?

My legs fall asleep in meditation

    Posted: 04 May 2020 03:55 AM PDT

I'm wondering if there are stretches or videos you would recommend to help me. I'm guessing it has to do with something being too tight or a pinched nerve or cutting off the blood. It's not the worst thing in the world. It happens about 20 minutes into a 30-minute site. I have always just shaken it off. But maybe there is a way to keep it from happening in the first place. Open to any and all thoughts. Thank you.

Here is my one month progress with the front splits and middle splits

My hamstrings feel super sore from what I believe is stretching too much, so I have taken it lightly for the past 2 weeks.

Also, I would also try and go as low as I could using the yoga blocks. However, I read somewhere that it is much better to practice without using your hands, even if you don't go as low. So that is what I'm doing in my after photo.

Although it looks like I haven't progressed much, I hope that this will help me develop the strength and flexibility I need to achieve the full splits.

Please let me know if there are any tips or anything you see that I should work on! Feedback is very much appreciated! Thank you :)

Hi flexi friends!! I need help with my upper back. I’m finding that my lower back is trying to overcompensate (which is why I’ve stopped doing bridges for the moment). How do I work on upper back mobility? Suggestions please!

How do you guys do it??

So I'm so close to getting my spilt flat but my legs move to where it's not a 180 line. How do you get it perfect?

    Getting out of a slump?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 03:00 PM PDT

Recently I've been in a stretching slump! I haven't stretched or exercised in almost a week. I haven't had any motivation to do anything, how can I get out of this slump? How do I become more motivated to stretch again?

My calves are ridiculously hard to stretch

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:31 AM PDT

I am going to preface this by saying I have never been able to get near vertical in a squat due to my very very tight calves. I used to be fat and have the calves to show for it, the stretches most people do literally make me feel nothing in my calves. Even the most crazy heavy stretches only give me a light stretching sensation and then my foot slips or something (with wall stretches) idk what to do I can't seem to stretch my calves at all. It's especially bad on my right side

Wonky Hips! Need advice: I have really limited flexibility through my right hip into leg, particularly when compared to the left side. Any suggestions for stretches??

    Posted: 03 May 2020 08:07 AM PDT

As per the title, I have really limited flexibility in my right hip. My left leg has always been weaker due to being born with/ops for talipes as a child, so not sure if any overcompensation in my right side could be causing tightness through the hip. But regardless, I would like to stretch out and make them a bit more equal.

Any advice on stretches that could help with this? I am working on regular butterfly stretching.

To give an idea of the difference, in butterfly my left knee is around 20% off the floor and comfortable, whilst my right knee is more like 50-60% and tight feeling.

Pain in hip capsule after PNF stretching?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 07:50 AM PDT

I did Tom Merrick's PNF stretching day which is rigorous but definitely not too crazy:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU0DZhN-8KFLYO6beSaYljg

I'm not new to the routine either. Anyway, this morning I feel a twinge and vague sense of looseness in one of my hip capsules. Any ideas what might have caused it (maybe one of the hip flexor lunges?) and how to best recover?

Have I pulled a muscle ?? Is it strain ?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:42 AM PDT

Context: I've been stretching on and off for 4 months trying to achieve my splits . My left hamstring is significantly less flexible than my right . And I feel a strain/muscle ache when I do certain stretches e.g. straddle, head to knee. The weird thing is after 10 minutes or so of stretching I can 'push through' this strain and match my right leg flexibility . I'm wondering if it's worth continuing doing this and hope my left leg gets better or just forgo stretching completely for my left leg to help recovery. Thanks
