Hey r/flexibility! Is my wheel pose any good?

My dream is to do the splits. I was never flexible growing up, but I've been at it for almost a month now and I'm loving the progress I'm making

    Relearning Movement Patterns

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:44 PM PDT

I've had a few mild injuries throughout my back over the past few years, which has sent me through a few physio cycles as well as taught me proper posture. I'm even stronger than before now and can swim and hike for miles. But I've become extremely stiff, always scared of reinjury. I've "forgotten" how to slouch or even get into the car. In fact, I'm so scared of getting into the car that I keep myself so straight and end up hurting myself slightly each time.

Has anyone had experience relearning lost movement patterns via slow/safe stretching and mobility exercises? I imagine it's good to have good posture, but not good to sit like that 24/7 and to always be so tense. I've been doing hamstring stretches for months and gone from 45 degrees to 90 degrees, but that doesn't seem to address my back.

Stretch during DOMS or wait for it to subside?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:05 PM PDT

Is there any conclusive consensus on wether one should continue to stretch during DOMS or wait for it to sub side? During quarantine I've been stretching a lot to better my deadlift when the gym reopens - been focusing a lot on hamstrings stretching. Have had to get creative at home - for example I carried my lady up a staircase24 times for a leg workout and this being a new stress it's left me with DOMS for a few days. Should I continue to stretch during DOMS? Will it lengthen the recovery period before I can workout again?

    Best book for beginners?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 09:48 PM PDT

Looking to purchase a book to learn about stretching more in depth that's geared towards beginners. Obviously I want it to have many poses inside the book as well as explaining how to do them.

    How to start?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 08:54 PM PDT

I recently realized that my flexibility has gone to shit and have no clue how to start. Any routines that would be good for beginners?

This is a Restorative/Yin Yoga deep hip stretch for hip flexibility and relaxation followed by a guided meditation. A bit more intermediate so if you are looking for more of a deeper stretch you may find this useful :)

I need to take a step back from stretching. Please help me do so wisely.

    Posted: 16 May 2020 05:02 PM PDT

I've read the FAQ but still have a few questions:

If the only mobility I do is this entire routine every every morning exactly as portrayed, will I lose anything besides advanced splits, pike, pancake, etc. flexibility?

Is it necessary to limber up at the end of every workout? I know that being strong doesn't inherently make one less flexible, but does working out intensely and not stretching afterwards leave one less flexible than not working out intensely?

Backstory: I'm a 26 year old male who has worked out just about every single day for the past 14 years and stretched after every single workout (even if there are two a day) as well as every night before bed. I only do about 10 seconds on each stretch and am usually fairly passive (which I am learning is giving me less bang for my buck). I've realized that being rigid (with regard to consistency) about this level of stretching is making me persnickety/neurotic, and I need to trim the fat from all of this while still being able to move well when I am older. That's my main goal. I am not really trying to achieve or maintain impressive levels of flexibility with the splits or other things (not that I can do the splits, but I think my pike's pretty impressive).

I understand a lot of this is a mental battle. There's a sense in which I just need to learn to calm down. That's going to be a lot easier when I know what forms of stretching/limbering give me the most bang for my buck (with regard to time especially). I've been kind of learning to do this with all facets of fitness lately. It's time for me to learn to be flexible about my flexibility ;)

Edit: I'm sure I'll end up doing more than the linked routine when I have the time, but, with where I am at right now, when I have a very busy day, the fact I am not doing all of what I described above adds to the stress.

How much days can I rest to not lose my flexibility?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 04:34 PM PDT

I started my flexible training three weeks ago to do middle and front splits and forward bend, in the first week I trained six days in a row and felt pain in my groin and under buttocks and decided to keep a routine about rest one day and practice the next three days but I still feel a bit of pain in the same place.

Now I'm thinking to change the routine again to two days in a row to rest and train the next four days but can two days be enough to lose the flexibility gained with the previous four days?

My training routine (35 seconds, 2x each one)

    - Sitting and holding foot

    - Sitting with a bent leg and holding the foot of other leg

    - Butterfly pose

    - Pushing down the butterfly legs pose with help of 22lbs each leg

    - Toad pose with 22 lbs on back

    - Opening legs against wall with 11 lbs on each leg (I hold 1 minute in that exercise)

    - Trying to perform middle split

    - Low lunge per leg

    - Quad stretch per leg

    - Trying to perform frontsplit per leg
