[COMP] I’m new to yoga and I’ve recently joined this subreddit to learn more. I’ve seen lots of headstands lately and decided to try! This is after about three days of consistent practice. I admire everyone I’ve been seeing on the posts in this community! You all give me motivation to be better!

Is 'intuitive yoga' effective for a highly inflexible person?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 06:36 PM PDT

So a little background, I'm a 22yo female bodybuilder. My only forms of activity is working out 4-5x/week, and getting in a minimum of 10k steps, daily. Aside from that, I'm highly sedentary, and embarrassingly inflexible.

I have a fair understanding of kinesiology and what my body likes, and so I find it pretty easy to create my own sort of flow. So what I'm wondering is, is if intuitive yoga would be effective in gaining some mobiity back, or if I'd be better off following along with a structured program.

    Hip tightness :(

    Posted: 22 May 2020 03:59 PM PDT

Hey everyone so I saw a physical therapist couple months ago after I was having some serious loud popping in my hip, that became painful.. he said I have " dancers hip "

I kept running outside during this quarantine and it has gotten way worse ..than the other day I did a yoga class on YouTube and realized how so tight I am and especially my hip flexors..

I just need some advice , I'll stretch and hold the stretches for a long time and I'll feel amazing after. But once I go to bed and wake back up the pain and super stiffness is back into my left hip..

Now I don't know what to do .. should I stop running for now and just focus on stretching ? Should I just work on hip mobility ? Do I set my new goal to becoming super flexible ?

Frog pose- how do I know if I can do it?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 03:25 PM PDT

I've been working on frog pose for about 3 months a couple times a week for up to 10 minutes at a time. I know things like this take time but I haven't seen any progress whereas I've seen much progress on other stretches. I've read that some people's hips simply don't allow for that sort of mobility because of shape I think (?). How do I gauge whether or not I'll be able to improve substantially given more time or if I'm about where I'm going to be with frog pose?

    Cat Meffan thoughts?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 05:49 PM PDT

I've been doing YWA, and then felt like I wanted more diversity and some longer practices. I like doing 45-60 minute sessions. I tried fightmaster but don't love her vibe. So I tried Cat Meffan. I like all the different poses, variety and that she has longer sessions- but in the world of yoga would her videos be considered more complex/intermediate in terms of practice/skill? The past few days I'm dying! I'm just sooo sore. Which is great- but now I'm really in a bit of hip joint pain and I'm wondering if it's just a few too many steps ahead of me.. I would have said that I'm late beginner to intermediate but now idk! I've done yoga on and off for years, fairly fit (though post baby so.. you know) and I know most poses well. Thoughts? Advice? Other people to try? I should stick with it because with soreness comes strength? I should have another glass of wine and my hip pain might disappear?!?!? Lol.. thanks!

Help with downward dog alternative & wrist pain

    Posted: 22 May 2020 06:08 AM PDT

I'm new to yoga. But started Yoga with Adrienne 14 today's ago & following one of her daily playlists.

I'm loving her and yoga. I've tried other exercise routines but quit quickly. This one I'm sticking to.

Here's the issue. I'm 50 and weigh about 210. Most poses I actually don't have much issue with. But downward dog I struggle...my wrists hurt holding me up. I've tried putting my hands into fists instead but can't manage to stay up long.

Does anyone have an alternate pose I should do? Or do I just keep trying and struggling with it?

Also does anyone have suggestions to build my wrist strength up? Thinking that may help too.

How to revive the stickiness of my mat?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:36 AM PDT

My local yoga studio has been selling their borrowable props because they will no longer be offering them in classes post covid-19 and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a jade yoga harmony mat for a very low price. It is well loved, but the grip and the non-slippage were so impressive for my first couple of uses, especially for someone like me who has only ever used $10 mats from tj maxx 😂. I'm afraid I got it too soaked with sweat, because it is starting to slip and slide all over my floor :( anyone have any recommendations on how to revert my mat to her former glory? Thank you so much!

    Men's Clothing Question

    Posted: 22 May 2020 02:18 PM PDT

Weird question, I have developed a decent routine of doing yoga from home due to Covid. I have gotten use to not wearing a pair of the Lulelemon boxer briefs that feels like I am not wearing anything (sorry for the mental image ladies). I obviously cannot do that when I return to the studio. Any recommendations for men's clothing that doesn't get in the way or restrict any movement?

Any advice for cross legged flexibility?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:25 AM PDT

So when I was younger I used to be pretty flexible, I could put my leg around the back of my head, put my hands completely on the ground all that stuff, but as I developed and started playing sports I stopped stretching for years, got injured multiple times and still didn't stretch, now I'm in a terrible position because I'm incredibly inflexible (especially in the hips) and it's incredibly painful to even sit partially cross legged, I can't even sit cross legged without a wall behind me to keep me up. I was wondering how I can develop this flexibility, because I love meditating and I would love to be able to meditate in the traditional form instead of in a chair. Like some stretches I could do every day to get there, this sub seemed like the perfect place to go.
