| Weak wrist in Chaturanga: how to re-learn proper alignement? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:16 AM PDT When I was learning chaturanga at the beginning of my Ashtanga journey, I was taught to keep my elbows close to the body when lowering down. My teacher really emphasised it so I've been deliberately rotating my elbows - and left wrist (I am right-handed so naturally stronger on my right side)- so they touch my sides. Over time, I have developed a strain in my left wrist due to the friction between my external carpal bones and my ulna, and I can't grip the floor fully with my left hand. I know now that my left wrist alignement was wrong thanks to the crease test. Alignement is totally fine in arm balances (jump through, bhujapidasana, bakasana...). How do I re-learn proper alignement in Chaturanga? It became a bad habit over the years so as soon as I stop focussing on my left wrist , it goes back. Wrist flexibility is not an issue but I think my left shoulder blade muscles are very weak too. [link] [comments] |
