Reflection on Our Societal Condition, A Wake up Call Posted: 31 May 2020 10:31 PM PDT News, social media, porn, YouTube, Netflix and overconsumption has stripped us of our ability to sustain attention, to feel deeply, and to connect to one another. It's 2020 and the world is swept away, more and more people, younger and younger, are being pulled into distraction-based-existence (DBE). When the situation is seen for what it is, it's heartbreaking. Anxiety, fear, anger, unrest are normalized. Men trapped in porn addiction, women trapped in image complexes, children having full blown addictions to screens. YouTube, Tik Tok and similar software companies, pay millions (probably way more) in research to entrap & sustain human awareness for as long as possible. And they succeed. For the sake of what? Profit. If you love yourself; set your standards higher. And I mean much higher. Your society won't set them higher for you, your friends & family likely won't either. You have to do it for yourself, especially if you want to help others. This is what I mean by much higher: Peace of Mind: If you're not completely peaceful in being alone, raise your standard. When I say peaceful, I truly mean peaceful. Most people may not even understand this. I'll elaborate. You are content, you are not thinking of the past, or concerned about the future. In fact, you decide when you want to think, on your terms. Your thoughts aren't randomly dragging you through the mud of fear, anxiety, worry. You direct your thoughts, and can simply stop cycles of thought when you wish. This is unfathomable to most in society, yes, because it's not their standard. Don't follow their standard. Stop accepting the constant assault from your mind. If you love yourself, you'll make this a priority. Train it. You're gonna live in the mind for the rest of your life, maybe clean it up, especially before pointing out the mess in others. Joy in Being: Remember when you were a child, when you were just happy and engaged in the world for the sake of it? If you love yourself, make that your standard. You believe you lost that childlike wonder and joy, you haven't, it's there, trust me, you've just allowed your mind to turn into a dumping ground with the collective baggage. It isn't even your fault, necessarily, don't be so quick to blame yourself. Those around us simply do what they've learned from their society, family, and friends and teach us the best they've come up with to be happy. Unfortunately, the best they've come up with isn't close to acceptable if you want stable joy. You find joy in your work. In creating a beautiful future. You share this with others, and they recognize this rare quality in you. This is necessary if you want to be exceptionally helpful to those confused and in pain around you. The best way to help others is to first learn to help yourself. Groundedness: Your possessions will break. You will see friends / family die. Your body will fail you. You will find yourself tested over and over and over by life's difficulties. But you learn to stay rooted in a stable ship of peace. Even when all the above happen, you'll be able to support those in less stable minds. You can support your family when there is a death. You become a pillar in society by being a noble example. This isn't a somber acceptance of the harshness of reality, but the result of honest reflection of how things are. When the nature of reality is seen for what it is, you recognize the immaturity of engaging in war against it. You learn to let experiences come and go. They'd do that regardless, and you know this. This is not a cold state, it is a wise state. It's a mature state. It's the only state that is aligned with the flow of reality. And when you do this, you begin to realize the value was never in the passing world anyway, it was something deeper within the whole time. It's time to wake up, you're ready when you say you are, stop waiting to say you are. The standard of society, social media, friends, family, is not enough. Give yourself a chance to be peaceful, joyful, grounded. You're mind isn't a dumping ground, treat it like the most valuable tool you have and you'll find that it is. This will be the best decision you make in your life. If you made it this far, thanks for reading, here's a final post script... Message me if you'd like to join a group that will be a support structure for those sincere & serious about this. I want to do my part in providing a tangible means to assist in such difficult times for those ready. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

I had a mini-breakthrough while meditating today Posted: 31 May 2020 09:35 PM PDT I'm pretty new to meditation and I started by reading Mindfulness in Plain English. The author talks a lot about observing sensations without getting involved, and I think I'm finally beginning to understand what he meant. When I have anxiety there's usually a physical sensation associated with it in my chest thats like a super unpleasant tension. When I meditated before today I would try to observe the tension to help release it but a lot of times I think I just ended up getting involved and even making it worse. I wouldn't be able to really concentrate on the breath and give up with more anxiety than I started with. But today, I was somehow able to just notice the fact that I was feeling anxious but also stay focused on my breath, and it was pretty cool. It was like the anxious sensation was on a different layer of... reality almost? I'm not sure how to explain it but I remember feeling like my mind and breath was on one "layer", the tension was on another so I was just able to observe it while not getting involved. After a little bit of observation it actually faded away and for 20 minutes or so I was the most relaxed I've been in a while. Now that I've finished meditating the feeling is starting to creep back but it's definitely not as bad as it usually is. Before I was just blindly trying meditation to help with anxiety, but now I think I understand how powerful it can be in helping release that mental and physical tension. I mainly just wanted to share that but I'm also curious about everyone else's experiences dealing with anxiety with meditation! [link] [comments] |

App or audio/video guide for newbie Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:13 AM PDT Hi, I'm new to meditation. I basically started thanks to Joe Rogan's podcast and Sam Harris. I know he has an app but it's $99 for a year and the only option is to pay all at once. I'm from Eastern Europe, I earn 900€/month out of which I spend 2/3 for living and food. Haven't worked for two months and started working only a week ago when everything finally reopened... so I kinda can't afford to spend 95€ on something I'm not sure will be helpful. I'm not even sure if I start meditating on regular basis. Allegedly it's one of the best apps but my guess is also the priciest. So I would like to kindly ask for some guides and tips for a beginner. I'm sure there are some cheaper or free alternatives. But which one has worked for you the best? [link] [comments] |
Going from 20 minutes to 1 hour? OCD Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:09 AM PDT So i struggle basically with OCD and this is one of the main reasons i started meditation! I have severe OCD and i think meditation can be a good tool to taking your attention from bad thoughts to good thoughts! I do now around 20 minutes a day and i want to rise it up to 1 hour at least? How should i do that? And is there better benefits when it comes to what i mentioned or concentration better? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:17 AM PDT I also know people recommend insight timer but I've fell in love with calm and also fell on hard times, so just wondering if anyone know of a code out? [link] [comments] |
I just had a strange emotional experience and im not sure if its linked to meditation Posted: 31 May 2020 03:43 PM PDT Ive meditated on and off over the last 2 years, struggling to stay consistent. I decided to start again. Yesterday morning i meditated for an hour, which was a first for me. This morning only 10 minutes. Ive been having a very rough year with my emotions, having gone through a harsh and unfair breakup in january, i am still having a hard time shaking it off, i struggle with daily depression.Any way i just decided to go walk down a local trail to get some room to relax and reflect. I saw a couple walking towards me holding hands with their younger daughter who had to be not even 3 years old in that toddler stage where they hobble around and are curious about everything. When i walked past she had a handful of purple flowers she had picked and looked up at me and said in that high pitched toddler voice "i got sum flowerz!" I kept walking and said oh those flowers are very beautiful! When i turned my head i had a big dumb smile on my face and was overcome with joy. Then right after i teared up and started sobbing uncontrollably. What just happened. I am a 24 year old man. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:45 AM PDT I'm an avid meditator but I'm still a newby. I know substances are frowned upon, but what's that transcending like feeling when meditating drunk? I've mildly felt that sober, it's like a floating feeling [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2020 02:09 PM PDT Never felt so alone like I'm feeling this times. I can't blame quarentine, my friends and girlfriend went a way that I'm no more following. Everyday I wake up with no messages, no memes, nothing. I feel like fighting against myself all the time, I'm going well, really. Vipassana is truly helping me, I'm studying to the college exams, I'm doing everything as I should... but I feel weak, lonely. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2020 09:01 PM PDT Hey guys, I've been meditating for about 3 weeks for at least 20 minutes a day, and I'm not too sure about this anxiety thing. Like I still feel pretty anxious sometimes. I went and played some soccer today with some new guys who I haven't seen before, so they were strangers to me. I've always had this problem with being anxious while playing soccer with unfamiliar people, but before I played today, I thought meditation would help with that. Turns out, it really didn't. I was still choking on the field like I was before I started this meditation journey. So my question to u more experienced meditators is when will I notice the change in my anxiety levels? When will I finally break free from constantly being anxious around new people. Btw I have noticed other benefits given to me from meditating such as better focus and all that but not much "no anxiety" benefits seen at least for now. If I continue to meditate, will I perhaps experience a life where I do not have social anxiety, does this really exist? Please let me know guys. [link] [comments] |
STOIC PHILOSOPHY OF NOT CARING Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:11 AM PDT Stoicism is a philosophy that started in ancient Greece, and was then further popularized in ancient Rome. Stoicism is an especially unique philosophy in how potently it has withstood the test of time across thousands of years. Arguably, the teachings and wisdom of stoic philosophy are equally, if not more relevant today than ever. In recent history, stoicism has found huge appeal. It was used and encouraged by Nelson Mandela, written about by current, popular authors like Tim Ferris, Robert Greene, and Ryan Holiday just to name a few, and has found a rather large community on the internet. I go in depths about this subject on my blog post https://findyourstoic.blogspot.com/2020/05/stoic-philosophy-of-not-caring.html [link] [comments] |
Should I breathe with my diaphragm or with my chest? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:06 AM PDT I am asking because the correct method of breathing is often said to be with the diaphragm. However, I also often hear - don't force the breathing or some equivalent of it. Or breathe as you were. Which should I follow? Beginner here with some prior short spurts of meditation. Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:52 AM PDT So, I've been reading up and interested in meditation and the process of enlightenment for quite a while now. I had understood that the world is an illusion theoretically but never really got what it meant. I mostly sit for about an hour everyday, but with the quarantine, it's been more. I close my eyes while meditating, but this time I decided to leave my eyes open and just observe my surroundings. As I was observing, suddenly, a new dimension was added. It was as if I had been seeing wrong all this is time - everything that I saw around me lost its objective quality (as something with a definite mass, etc), everything I was looking at appeared to be in me as well as outside me and there was no me. It was all just awareness and the objects like trees and sky and everything seemed to be made out of the same thing. My body also seemed like an external object. It was similar to Rupert Spira's description of images(objects) appearing on the screen (awareness) and you realising that you're the screen and the objects are just modulations of what you are and there can be nothing else. I'm wondering if I got a glimpse of what it means to be enlightened and now, although I know I shouldn't long for an object or an experience, I want that ability to see through that lens again. And since I know (I think) that that's the way to look at things and all I have to do is abide in that, I keep trying to replicate that "experience", and I'm wondering if observing with open eyes will help with this and be more productive than closed eyes meditations for an hour or so. Any thoughts would be great :) Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
MMeditation is finally letting me see that I’ve been a lifelong anxiety sufferer. Posted: 31 May 2020 01:53 PM PDT After all these years (I'm not young), how did I just now realize this? My friends see me as the laid back guy from a west coast beach town. To others I am the type A entrepreneur. I am also sometimes an extrovert who can also be the life of the party, as well as the person who is first to suggest doing daredevil activities like skydiving or mountain biking. Only now— after a few years of daily meditation—am I starting to realize that I'm anxious nearly all the time (including almost always around others). The only times I'm not anxious when doing some adrenaline-fueled or flow-oriented activity, and of course when meditating (generally). I feel like I'm about to embark on a journey of discovery. Anyone else had a similar awakening? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:40 AM PDT I focus on the ticking of my clock in the morning for meditation for 10 minutes, I don't really feel anything afterwards, is this working? And how do I know if I have reached that state of mind were supposed to reach? Thanks!!! All help is appreciated 😁 [link] [comments] |

How to meditate on a question/decision Posted: 31 May 2020 09:13 PM PDT I meditate often but never understood this concept, do people usually sit down and instantly think about their question while meditating or do they wait till they are focused or about 5 mins in. And do you usually say the question in your head or how exactly do i meditate on a question/decision any advice is appreciated [link] [comments] |
For anyone who thinks they struggle with their practice, you’re not alone! Posted: 31 May 2020 02:21 PM PDT I think something that has always limited me is that I don't have enough energy to do all of the things I "need" to do (hobbies, recreation, work, etc). I started meditating hoping that it would help me control my mind better, sharpening my knife to make deeper/more effective cuts. However I think meditation isn't really meant to sharpen the knife, it's helped me see what cuts are necessary and which ones are not. Meditation is realizing what ~is~ so you can freely choose how to spend your energy. You understand the repercussions of those actions since the energy you bring into existence will spread. It can resonate or it can destroy or it can do nothing at all. Meditation holds a mirror up to our own pain, the pain we carry, the pain we can't escape, but this same pain defines us. We have the Freedom to let no one else feel that pain, there is no stronger foundation to lift each other up with than Truth, no better way to reach others than Compassion. Pain teaches us these values. Silent lessons the Soul whispers to us require us to practice Acceptance, Awareness, and Patience to cultivate the wisdom we never knew we yearned for. I struggle every day with these core values, but mediation brought me to the point where I can identify how my energy not only affects others, but effects myself. Focusing on these helps ground me and brings down anxiety because it's what matters to me. Thanks for reading and I hope this helped in some way! [link] [comments] |
I had negative effects on meditation please help..am I doing it right? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:21 AM PDT i have tried meditation few years back on yoga classes we do this after the session. it's good if a yogi is the one guiding it or teaching it and I am trying to practice iton my own with no teacher just guided meditation on youtube or spotify Every morning before I get out of bed I listen to this guided meditation for 15 mins it feels good on my first week i was calm. i feel good about it. I had some positive effects like its good to calm your mind in this chaotic world. like it help me to think first before over reacting. few days after, I felt depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts. I dont know why it also came to a point that I wanna sex binge but good thing there is quarantine here. I watched this youtube content which show some negative effects of meditation apparently it came from someone who tried meditation before and there were studies and research he showed in his content. as much as i want to continue meditation is it for me? are the dark side effect of meditation the one dominating on me? or Is wrong that I am doing it on my own.. a beginner? Meditation laying down vs lotus or seiza Posted: 31 May 2020 02:15 PM PDT This has been something that I have been experimenting for quite some time. And I would like to hear what your experiences have been like. I like the comfort of laying down but I notice that sometimes it I'm a little bit tired I will fall into this weird half sleep/half woke mode but still somewhat aware. I'm curious to hear your guys input on this. [link] [comments] |
