Roughly six weeks into a daily practice, observations. Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:48 PM PDT It's been a month and a half. I've meditated every single day for about 15-20 minutes a day typically, with a handful of 30-minute sessions in there. Here's what I've noticed thus far :) -I'm happier. Just looking around, things look brighter with more depth. I see the beauty in nature more. - Improved focus, without feeling burnt out as fast. Stamina. - More physical and mental energy. My body feels lighter. - I'm less stressed, and I seem to handle stress more efficiently. I don't sweat the small stuff as much anymore. - My general outlook on life is brighter and less dark. - I'm less impulsive. - I recall information better and my short and long term memory has improved. I'm extremely happy I have implemented this positive routine into my life, it's been nothing short of life-changing. I plan to keep practicing every day for a while, probably always. If you're a newbie like me and you're just getting started, stick with it, it's totally worth your time. [link] [comments]

Today I went back to my childhood and talked to myself :) Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:14 AM PDT So today I did a long meditation session. I felt like I needed to sort some deeply rooted stuff in my unconscious mind. At the end of it, I was very connected to my "self" and very very relaxed. I decided I wanted to go back in time. So I took the time to acknowledge who I am now and today: My name is ... and I am ... years old. My friends are ... and ... , and I like ... and .... My dreams are ... and my biggest fears are ... and whatever I could come up with. When I felt like I had really inhabited my present self, I took a deep breath and went back 1 year. And then the same sentence: My name is ... and I am ... years old. I really took my time to incarnate myself at that age. I made sure I used the present tense. It felt real. I was feeling the same feelings that I was at the time, smelling the same smells, remembered details I had long forgotten... If you asked me, I didn't think I could find a memory for each year of my life, but year by year, step by step, and by taking my time, it was actually possible. I went all the way to my childhood, until I was in the kindergarten classroom, sitting cross legged on the floor. Then I decided it was time for my childhood self to meet with my adult self. So then both of us were in that empty classroom. I saw that kid. I looked at him and told him I knew him :) asked him if he knew me, and he said yes with a knowing smile. I was so moved I actually cried. It was very emotional. He showed me around the school, what he liked to do and stuff. Then we both sat on the floor and I gave him some advice. He said he understood :) I decided it was time for me to leave. I hugged him, thanked him for being who he was, told him to say hi to Mum and Dad. I left. Then it was time to go back to present time. So I did the same thing in the other direction. I really took my time to embody myself at each year. I re-lived some important episodes of my life, but this time I had some precious advice that had been given to me by a guy who came in my classroom one day :) I arrived to my recent past... and to today... I remembered those advice once more. I Took the time to embody myself. My name is ... and I am ... years old. This is what I like etc... When it felt like today again, it was over. Took a deep breathe and opened my eyes. This is probably what's called self hypnosis I guess. It felt natural. And I couldn't have done it without meditation. The whole experience lasted around 1.5 hours. I would say the way back to childhood lasted twice as long as the way forward to present. I don't know if it will have any effect on my life, but what a powerful trip it was! I cried several times on the way. It really felt like I traveled some place. Was it safe? I don't know. Would I recommend it? I guess you need to be careful with it. Was it worth it? Definitely :) That's it, just wanted to share that experience with you. Sending you all the love. [link] [comments]

Loving Kindness meditations work Posted: 08 Jun 2020 01:46 PM PDT Just thought I'd drop in and write a quick report on something I've experienced. I'm in the military (please don't bash the military, most guys were misguided 18 year olds like me when they signed up) so my work environment is not that calm. I was on a deployment about a year ago and out on target. Something happened, and I was there asking myself "why am I doing this? What am I doing here? I don't want to die in Afghanistan" Came back from deployment and decided I didn't want to take part in the system anymore, so I quit my job as an infantryman. Now I push papers all day and wait for my time to be up, but I was very clear with my command that if they put me in a position where there was a possibility of me having to harm or kill someone else I'd get out as a conscientious objector. Some of the people in my chain of command didn't like the way I handled all of this. I do want to say though that some were very supportive, so I don't want it to seem like everyone was against me. After I switched jobs though I felt a lot of hostility from some of the people I used to work with. I've been meditating for a couple years now, but my aunt showed me a "blueprint" for a 10 minute loving kindness meditation and I started adding that to my daily sit. Last week we were at a training event and three people in particular who were at the very least angry at me and cut off communication at work or at worst would belittle me in group settings just had a normal conversation with me. They also had a lot more of a laid back vibe, I couldn't sense any anger or hostility from them when they were talking to me. I don't know what changed in their minds, or if it was that I was expecting them to act with hostility towards me almost making our interactions a self fulfilling prophecy, but something changed and the anger and hostility isn't there anymore. Just thought I'd share my experience. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jun 2020 11:48 PM PDT Such as a pentagram or the sound of the ocean. Incorporating as many senses as possible will also enable you to submerge yourself deeper into your mediation. Envisioning the ocean, hearing the waves, smelling the sea, feeling the movement of the waves, all in your mind. Focusing on building these concepts and environments is especially helpful when you're trying to get to a deeper level of trance but struggle to shut off the constant inner narration. I made this Meditation Prompt Generator specifically to provide me with abstract, randomized concepts to explore in my meditations. Phrases such as: "be the inside of the forest", "mimic the sound of the sun", "absorb the sound of fire", "be absorbed into the shape of the spiral", "discover the edge of your breath", "conceptualize the revolutions of a flower", "hear the pulse of the wind" -- gives us a concept to focus on, but also elicit an experiential synthesis of the senses into our meditation. It is still in the testing phase and I am still working on getting the wordbank perfect. I would really appreciate some feedback before I finalize it and put it on our website. Sometimes it takes up to 10 rolls before you get a good phrase, so keep rolling until you get a phrase that pleases you. https://marandino.github.io/EtheRealTheMe/index.html "It's difficult to have a truly random thought. Our brains function based on association. By challenging your mind to conceptualize these abstract, random phrases, it forces us to think outside of our predetermined thought forms. Not only do we encourage the growth of new neural pathways, but we invite the cosmos to affect our lives with beautiful randomness. Use these phrases for artistic inspiration, contemplate their meaning during meditation, or find a way to perform an action which represents their spirit." (btw, if you're curious, there is a silly version. you can visit www.randomcommand.com to see it) [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:01 AM PDT What should i do about that? is it that meditation can cause some sort of tinitus, is it a sound to focus on during meditation, or is it simply our ears trying to look for some noise to catch on. i have started very recently to meditate so i'm still confused if i should focus on sounds, on silence, or just on my breathing. Thank you in advance, have a wonderful day! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:08 AM PDT Hi all, I have been following this sub for a while now and I've decided to finally start getting into the habit of making meditation a regular thing. As of 2 years ago I found myself realizing how difficult it was to focus and concentrate. My mind would wander when it was time to study. I believe this can be solved with meditation. As a beginner, where and how do I start? TL;DR: I want to begin meditating, how do i start? how did you start? [link] [comments]
Strange meditation experience. What happened? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:21 PM PDT I'm fairly new to mantra meditation. I've spent 20 minutes every day before bed repeating a mantra in my mind. The hardest part of my meditations have been focusing solely on the mantra and not letting other thoughts distract me. On the least effective days, I feel slightly more relaxed after mediation. On my best days, I have new insights about different circumstances in my life and feel more confident in myself. I've only had one instance where I was able to let go of any thoughts and have only the mantra repeat in my mind without any distractions. As I was closing my eyes and repeated the mantra, I hallucinated a very clear green koi fish swimming around my eye. The level of detail in the fish was incredible and it almost felt real. My phone went off and I was immediately taken out of the experience and I haven't been able to experience it again. What happened? How was I able to have these clear hallucinations while being immensely focused and feeling perfectly at peace? I hope to be experience this again. [link] [comments]
Panicking when focusing on the chest area during meditation Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:13 PM PDT Hello everyone! 3 months ago I started meditating again regularly and I find that I have more good days when I'm focused & aware and more bad days when I'm generally aware but less focused and so I've been practicing grounding/focusing meditation on different parts of the body which has helped. However, when I focus on my chest area, I start to breathe rapidly and start to panic and lose awareness and think about other things (I have anxiety by the way). I try to keep a light focus and accept it for what it is, but it's incredibly difficult. It's been a week and it's not getting any easier. Does anyone have any tips on how I could improve on the focusing practice as well as any other practices I can do to increase focus? Thanks a lot in advance! [link] [comments]
Just got done meditating and I dont even know if im Meditating correcly Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:09 PM PDT While my eyes are close the thought came to mind that Meditation is simply being still and not doing anything...Sounds easier said than done [link] [comments]
What do you actually visualise or think about during your meditations Posted: 09 Jun 2020 12:39 AM PDT Once you bring the focus back to your breath and to the body, what are you supposed to actually think or visualise in your head ? After I get rid of my thoughts I usually picture my mind being empty, like a blank room of nothingness, but I've also heard you can visualise a blue sky with clouds. What do you actually visualise to take your mind away from unnecessary thinking ? [link] [comments]
What exactly are the real world benefits of practicing mindfulness? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:03 PM PDT I've never actually known what meditation is. I've always just thought of it as something hippies do. I recently looked it up and was shocked how simple it is. I kind of meditate already, but I want to try and full on mediate, practicing mindfulness, but, what are the actual benefits of being mindful? I was told that it is kind of the opposite of being really grounded (like when you smoke weed). [link] [comments]
What’s your take on loneliness and fellow people? Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:52 AM PDT I'm a translator and one client (Chinese) was fixated on how bad my English (target language) was. I think it was totally unjustified; she thinks succinct sentences are boring, even though I adhered to her original text and style. She then rejected my 2-hour hard work worth 71 USD. As a freelancer, I needed that money, but I'm even willing to forfeit it now. Why can't people be reasonable? And recently a friend, because I criticized some branches of feminism after reading about the "men should be reduced to 10% of the global population" essay, quietly deleted me on all social media. Without a tiny bit of intelligent conversation, to which I'm totally open. Even though we were "best" friends for years. Though I'm meditating, my faith in humans has plummeted. I'm deeply hurt. I found myself not having intimate friends with whom I can share these thoughts. [link] [comments]

| Meditation only helps when I’m meditating Posted: 08 Jun 2020 04:36 PM PDT I've been meditating for about 3 years now. I've read and seen it help people reduce stress in their lives in general but I've never experienced that. The only time meditation helps me reduce stress is when I'm actually meditating. That's nice and all but I'd love some of those benefits to last throughout the day. This hasn't been a big deal until recently with a Covid, being isolated, having to postpone major life events, human rights and political climate, as well as being SO overworked. And that's just the main things... I want meditation to be able to help me throughout the day but lately it just feels like a few moments of escaping reality, but with no lasting benefit.
