Runner flexibility when you stop running so much

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:01 AM PDT

    Morning,

Over the last 10 years or so I've been fairly dedicated to running long distances and completing many marathons along the way. Since the backend of last year I've decided to try new things and do completed Focus T25 and now working on P90x3.

I'd like to move into calisthenics and one day handstand, gain strength and most importantly flexibility.

During P90X3 you do yoga and pilates routines, which are great but really show how poor my flexibility really is. So my question is, how is it best to move forward to improve this? I've done Tom Merricks routine a few times, but what is best to increase flexibility and how long a process is it to see even small changes?

    Thanks

Looking for tips/critiques from y’all on how to get my damn leg straight! Is it the shoulders, hip flexors? Back? All of the above?

Been trying to even out my flexibility so it’s the same on both sides. Starting to get there

    Major Hip Flexor Issues

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:54 PM PDT

To start I should say I work a desk job full time. I don't have the most ergonomic friendly set up at home but I'll hopefully be back in office soon where it's a bit better.

But I've been dealing with this issue for too long and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend routines that I need to do daily to overcome this. I love being active and playing sports but neglecting mobility has taken its toll on me clearly. Just played a game of ultimate frisbee and can barely walk after the game. Tight hips the entire time. There's crackling in my hips too and what feels like my SI joints..

Any routines or recommendations out there? Hell I'd subscribe to something if I had to to keep me in check. Thanks!

side/middle split stretching is painful in the outside hip

side/middle split stretching is painful in the outside hip

Edit: just spotted https://www.reddit.com/r/flexibility/comments/akv74n/outer_hip_pain_during_middle_splits/ which is my exact same question

I have been stretching middle splits once or twice a day for about 3 weeks, often with added load. I have mostly been feeling the stretch in the outside of my hips. I don't have any pain in this region except when stretching and it doesn't feel like an injury. Based on glancing at some hip anatomy, the pain seems like it is in the Tensor fasciae latea and maybe the Gluteus medius (see image). Is feeling the stretch here normal?

    not stretching for a week?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:30 AM PDT

how much will it harm me to not stretch for a week. i'm currently at the beach (still social distancing and keeping safe) but staying at an air bnb. i don't really feel like it's sanitary to stretch on the floor here and i didn't think to bring a yoga mat. i currently have both of the front splits and can pancake all the way in middle splits, as well as touch my toes and everything, but i don't have much mobility with my flexibility and don't have that much oversplits. i was wondering how much this would harm me if i stopped stretching for a week while i'm here?

Is there a negative side to flexibility?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:24 AM PDT

This might be the equivalent of going into a church and asking if there's a negative side to jesus.... but is there a negative side to flexibility?

Does it make you more prone to injury or any thing like this?
