Yoga stretches solved my chronic pain

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 02:06 PM PDT

I've been on pills my entire life for my chronic back pain and headaches.

I FINALLY asked to go to PT after the doctor told me my only solution was burning nerves away in my back.

The PT gave me common yoga stretches...

... after two weeks the pain is gone.... it's finally fucking gone....

I use to wake up every single day with headaches.

I struggled fully breathing because my scoliosis was so severe that it was restricting my lungs.

    My vision was literally blurry.

I couldn't stand up for more than 2 minutes without chronic pain.

    ITS FINALLY FUCKING GONE

Can I be a yogi if I don't believe in chakras or prana?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:34 AM PDT

I'm one of those people who started to do yoga at home after COVID-19, so I'm a total newbie and very open to constructive criticism on my thoughts. I've been reading some of the philosophical stuff, and I really appreciate some concepts like maya and samadhi. I basically believe that the only thing that I can say that is real for sure is the pure awareness, and practicing the asanas and meditation is a way to be in touch with this. However, considering the aspects of maya and it's internal logic, I don't see any reasons to believe in all this subtle matter stuff. Like, if it has effects on gross matter, it should be measurable by science, and apparently scientists have already studied the topic of vital force and have found it to be non existent. So I usually use the concepts of prana and chakras to describe a subjective feeling of energy on my body while doing my practices, but I don't believe it to be a type of matter that is in another dimension. As you guys can see, I just kind of believe in half of the spiritual concepts and would like to know if yoga as a spiritual practice is really for me. I'm really confused.

Looking for a trauma focused online yoga class

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:54 PM PDT

Before the pandemic, I was a regular at a very small yoga studio and practiced twice per week for about 8 months. I really relied on these classes to help me be present and stay grounded in my body, and as a way to be more social and find a sense of community. When quarantine started, my teacher obviously had to cancel in-person classes and can't offer any online instruction. So since the start of quarantine, and my practice has basically come to a halt. I really need the community feel that I was getting from my in-person classes, and thought I would try out a zoom class. However, I would love to find something that is trauma focused, or at the very least, trauma informed. Does anyone know of any teachers who are offering this? I would also be interested in any kind of healing-oriented meditation class/ group as well.

Thank you so much for any advice/ resources you can offer :)

    Tough/Challenging online yoga

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:58 PM PDT

Hey - I'd love to contribute to a challenging yoga classes list. I have a few go-to's but have a hard time finding new ones.

Anyone interested? Or have a better place for me to post this? I'll toss some on here if we get a thread going.

Hoping to stick to all free/shareable classes.

what is your FAVORITE online yoga course/series/challenge?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:35 PM PDT

I have done two yoga with adriene challenges and one yoga with tim challenge. Both of them talk too much about random things in my opinion, it is kind of distracting especially when I am trying to get into a meditative headspace. What are your favorite online videos?

How to protect my back knee when doing splits and similar moves on hard floors ?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:10 PM PDT

does anyone else struggle with the discomfort of doing full splits on the bare wood floor ? (even with a yoga mat) and does this ever cease?

Maybe it's bcz my mom had knee problems - but i just find that my back knee always is clicking around painfully as it is smashed deeper and deeper into the ground, especially as I tuck my back toes/pull my back leg to butt.

It prevents me from staying in the split for as long as I like to and drives me to practice splits primarily in my carpeted room - but I don't want to limit myself by doing this as it's starting to feel a bit like "cheating"

So I just wanted to see what tips people had on knee protection!

Stretches for someone as flexible as a 2 by 4?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:37 AM PDT

    Hey everybody :)

I'd like to preface this with that I stretch fairly regularly and live an active lifestyle. My entire life I've just been super stiff, especially regarding leg and hip ROM.

However, I've had a desire to really open up my mobility and flexibility lately; i.e splits both ways, butterfly with knees to the ground, etc.

Have you guys found any good videos or programs that can get me there? I'd really appreciate any tips or tricks regarding technique, times per week, or even diet.

Thanks! I can't wait to share my progress :)

Im trying to find a quote but can't. Can someone help me?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:38 PM PDT

It went something like this(not exactly tho): "They say I'm a Buddhist because my way of going to church is being in nature, they say I'm a Christian because I like Christian values" and in the end it was something like: "I'm awake" I think...does anyone know from who it was?

    3 weeks postpartum- yoga

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:37 PM PDT

Before and during pregnancy I had a regular yoga practice- intermediate/advanced. I stopped doing power yoga around 30 weeks pregnant and just did restorative/yin until labor. I'm dying to get back into it, I feel great healing wise but I know things still aren't back to normal inside. Definitely have lost some muscle tone so I know I'll be weaker. As far as the diastasis recti goes- there is only a one finger-width gap. Any tips/advice of what should be avoided? When in low lunge, I feel a little crampy in my pelvic area so I'm going to avoid for right now. High lunge/crescent feels fine though.

Is 2 hours of Power Yoga enough to lose weight, get toned and get in shape?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:29 AM PDT

    Hey,

Since I've had a lot of time on my hands due to corona, I've been doing Power Yoga, 2 hours a day. I just don't know if I'm doing enough or if I need to add something else to the mix but the thing is I don't really enjoy weight training or cardio. Is 2 hours of power yoga a day enough or do I need to increase it?

I also every 2 weeks I do 2 hours of yin yoga instead as a recovery day.

I’ve recently discovered the arts of meditation and yoga. I’ve been doing 10 minute morning yoga things as well as before bed stretches. Any points or tips for setting up a better routine. Should I be stretching and working out as well?? Anything will be super helpful.
