Haven’t been inverted like this in over a decade. I’m coming back, baby!

I have become swayed by many here to start taking my routine outside. It's might not be considered much, however I'd like to introduce you to my outside haven. My goal is to increase back flexibility. Does anyone happen to have any suggestions on how to achieve this?

    New Yogi

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:56 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I'm really new to Yoga. Been about 3 weeks. I decided to do this during the pandemic so no in person classes. I like to do Yoga with Adrienne in YouTube. She is encouraging and beginner friendly. I have osteoarthritis and tight hamstrings so I find some poses hard to do. I ended up losing my balance during a lunge and was a bit shaky doing planks. Does it get easier as you go? I do 20-30 minute videos. When did you guys see results?

Painful knots in my back when in human cannonball?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:47 PM PDT

I've been overweight all my life let's just get that out of the way. Currently over the past year and a half I have lost a whopping 95 pounds! So close to 100 I can feel it! Yeah, apparently I can really feel it because now when I go into cannonball position (on a mat, on a hardwood floor) I can feel these pretty damn tight and painful knots in my back near the flanks I would say. It's been bugging me increasingly to the point where I'm starting to avoid doing anything while on my back.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas of what it could be and how to treat it?

A way to focus on the mental.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:20 PM PDT

I'm someone who isn't able to fully adopt yoga into my daily life. Oftentimes its something that happens in spurts or phases. For me the hardship is being ok with signing off from the fast paced lives we live in. My hypothesis to this problem was that I simply wasn't comfortable being alone in my own head so it stopped me from doing any singular exercise, such as yoga, through good and especially bad days. I thought I would ease into meditation with the idea of teaching myself to be content with being. in my head and handling various stresses in everyday life. However, all the app based options I found, tended to be course like, and in the end, made me. feel like I was going to school when all I really needed was a resource to lean on every once in a while for super specific feelings such as a moment when I was feeling overwhelmed. As a result I sought to build my own app with a couple of friends from college called vrtumind that we wanna give out for free to people so that they too can have a easy and quick resource to be in touch with their mental. I used my own app to bridge myself towards yoga but its also helped me as one of the ways in my life to keep me a bit more centered.

You can check it out [here](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1504995462/)Let me know what you think and if there are features we can add that would help you!

has anyone else felt drawn to the yoga lifestyle for superficial or materialistic reasons? how did you separate yourself from that?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:07 PM PDT

hi everyone, i've been experimenting with yoga for probably five years now but have developed a stronger interest in it this year, especially with quarantine. i struggle with this idea, however, of trying to be the stereotypical free-spirited, attractive young girl who's super into yoga and all of that. i know that the reality is that yoga is for everyone, that you don't have to look or dress a certain way, and that it can be done anywhere - you don't have to go to fancy studios to experience it, but i keep buying expensive yoga clothing and basically buying into the superficial things that yoga is sometimes associated with through marketing

i would really like to start embracing yoga more for what it is - being with the breath, focusing on the given moment, etc. - and stop obsessing over materialistic crap like i mentioned. has anyone had a similar experience and could share some insight?

    thank you :)

I am curious does an app or video on YouTube replace your need for practicing with a teacher? I am unsure if I should continue practicing yoga in a group session if this app works so well for me

Just completed my first week of yoga, what’s next?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 05:08 PM PDT

Hey guys, I just finished Breathe and Flow's 7 Day Beginner Program and it felt really good! I'm not sore and it was a good pace for me, and I feel happy that I enjoy this form of exercise. I am ready for a little more of a challenge I think and I would like some advice. Their same channel has a month long program that is more advanced I could try. Or should I browse the sub for more? Please give me some recs, thanks :) Also I want a little more muscle but don't have gym access, would adding push ups, sit ups, air squats, etc be a good addition to daily yoga?

Yoga program to go alongside running

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT

Hi all! I had a solid yoga practice earlier this year and then quarantine happened. I took up running instead and love it!

I am wondering if someone can recommend any yoga programs that can go alongside running. I am honestly pretty overwhelmed trying to pick from all the ones available online (DownDog, Bulldog Yoga, Yoga with Adrienne, etc etc.) and I am wondering if anyone has a specific routine that they love while also running.

    Thanks so much!

Edit: someone on r/running recommended specific work on IT bands, hips, and core. Not sure if that helps!

    Injury-friendly flows

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:52 PM PDT

Hi! Any recommendations for a challenging yoga sequence that's entirely seated or on my back? I can't put much weight on my foot due to an injury, but I want to do some movement that won't make the injury worse.

Does yoga feel more comfortable the more you do it?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:36 AM PDT

I (23F) have tried yoga throughout the years. In college I took a yoga class at my university, and I've occasionally tried doing yoga at home with apps or YouTube videos.

I swear almost every pose feels uncomfortable. Simply lying flag on my back hurts my lower back. Child's pose hurts my hips. Downward facing dog is uncomfortable for my entire body.

An I just that inflexible? Does it get better with time? I want to like yoga but geez lol

What to do instead of standing forward fold?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:11 AM PDT

What can I do instead of a standing forward fold that will still have similar transitions to/from?

I don't really fold at all (even modified versions), and I'd like something to do other than stand and wait for the next asana.
