Yoga practice can make us more and more sensitive to subtler and subtler sensations in the body. Paying attention to and staying with finer and finer sensations within the body is one of the surest ways to steady the wandering mind. - Ravi Ravindra

    Bad for the back?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:28 PM PDT

I bought a book on back pain recently and in there it said some basic yoga moves should be avoided as it's bad for the spine. He mentioned moves like toe touching (forward fold), dropping knees to one side on your back, most twists, and anything that brings your knees to your chest should be avoided.

That kinda shocked me as those moves are in most yoga classes and I do them all the time. I bought this book because I started having back issues out of nowhere. Felt like my spine was compressed and even one night I slept in a chair because lying down bothered me

The book is Back Mechanic by Dr. Stuart McGill. Has great reviews on Amazon.

    Yoga Certification Scholarships?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 10:01 AM PDT

Hi guys! I really want to get my yoga teacher certification, but I can't afford any of the programs I've seen. Does anyone know of any scholarships or good, inexpensive courses?

Hey! I saw a post here a while ago with a link to a bunch of free book PDFs, a lot by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Would anyone be able to link me to that? Thank you!

    Pain with AM yoga practice?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:08 AM PDT

I wake up with a back so sore it feels like my spine is fused together. I think doing yoga right when I wake up (maybe a 15-20 min sun salutation before I go to work) would benefit me and help get my body ready for the day...but in practice it hurts so badly - mostly dropping chin to chest or doing forward folds that I avoid it. For anyone who does yoga right after waking up- do you have this issue with it hurting? Does it lessen the more you do it? Waiting a while isn't an option because I need to start getting ready for work at 6am and I don't want to wake up super early. Any advice or suggestions welcome.

    Practising as a couple

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:31 AM PDT

Hello all! My husband has recently started making a series of changes in his life, diet, exercise etc and I feel confident that this would be a really good time to introduce him to yoga. He is already 'there' from a spiritual position and spends hours watching/reading various spiritual teachers and thinkers.

He's never shown an interest in yoga before but I'm certain he would completely love it and it might be my only chance to get him on side, haha!

I'm looking for YouTube yogi recommendations that are suitable for a beginner and hang toward the spiritual rather than the sporty. Intimate partner practice would be good too Thank-you so much!

From where can I order a good bolster?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:52 AM PDT

I'm overwhelmed with options and not knowing which is a worthwhile investment.

I'm looking for a long one, the length of my spine to be used restoratively as I have spinal problems. I'm unsure if rectangular or cylindrical would be best...

    Any suggestions are welcomed!
