Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

I can't do the splits yet, but flexibility training is proving to be super valuable.

I’ve been inflexible my 30 something years and I want to do something about it...

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:52 PM PDT

I'm a 31 year old woman who has been inflexible my entire life. I have visions of the "sit and reach" and how bad I was it at it or remember swim team practices being the only one with difficulty stretching arms behind my back.

I have always been strong and enjoyed climbing/lifting/and swam for a good period of my life. I've been lifting regularly over last few years and my lack of mobility is limiting my ability to progress.

My hamstrings and upper back (I guess half my body...) are the worst.

Looking for a short routine (5-10 minutes) that I can easily squeeze into my day and make some true progress. If it's longer than 15 minutes I know I won't be able to keep it a habit.

    Any tips appreciated!

How can i shorten my stretching routine?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 03:12 PM PDT

As school progresses, I've come to realize I cannot upkeep the stretching routine I developed in the summer. I have a goal of hitting all three splits (left, right, and middle) and i still want to work towards that while doing school.

This is the video I've been following thus far: https://youtu.be/I6sgWVu3V2I

I looked online and the people who talk about flexibility have tons of stretches they want you to do that I have no time to bother with. What are 5-10 essential stretches to achieve the splits?

Trap, Neck, Upper Back pain constantly.

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:01 PM PDT

Basically throughout the day my traps are stiff as hell, I constantly have to crack my neck because all the way up from the back it is extremely sore. Then I constantly have to push my shoulder blades together to pop my upper back every couple of minutes.

I work in a warehouse and constantly have to bend up and down, lift, and look down to read labels for 10 hours a day, it's finally getting to me. Lately my hips have been hurting too along with my lower back.

Fortunately my thighs and Calves are getting stronger but thats about it. What kind I do to fix these issues?

Hip Soreness with splits stretching, should I be worried or just getting old? (20f)

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:45 PM PDT

I'm a 20 yr old female thats been doing gymnastics/aerial arts for the past 10 years. I have had my splits for many years now (still do) and I used to have decent back flexibility (could do chest stands, etc). I have been doing much less aerial arts and stretching the past few months due to covid and college but now I'm trying to get back into it.

I've noticed that during and after stretching I'm having soreness in my hip joints and more tension/pain in my back. It's been a while since I've done a daily stretching routine so I'm still getting my flexibility back but I'm wondering if I should be worried. Am I just getting older so my body feels less limber or should I be concerned about joint soreness from pushing myself with stretching?

    Shoulder flexibility

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:22 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

So i was trying this shoulder upper back flexibility routine from Antranik. There is this exercise where you put your hand as far as possible up your back and you try to grab your hand with your other hand from above. With my left hand this is possible, but hard. With my right hand this is impossible. Even with a piece of cloth it tried pulling it as high as possible, but failed to reach it with my otherhand.

Is there a specific stretch (or more) I can do for my right shoulder to level my flexibility for both shoulders? Because i think this is not normal.

I hope you know what i mean. If it is not clear, I could send pictures of both positions.
