Day 2 of middle splits. How often should I be practicing & how long should I hold it?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 07:53 PM PDT

I'm so happy I've managed to learn this! My next goal would probably be a triple fold once I've gotten better

    Pulled my hamstring.

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 04:38 AM PDT

I pulled my left hamstring stretching yesterday. It's not too bad. I just felt a sudden sharp pain but wasn't so bad that I had to completely stop stretching, I just had to be careful. Today it's definitely hurting a little more than a normal stretched out feeling. i'm sure it will be absolutely fine in a day or two but I wonder if I should completely avoid stretching until it feels normal. Or would careful leg stretches be ok after a good warm up.

    Flexibility for strong people

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 08:25 PM PDT

Hey Guys! So, I have a question for those with a particular background. Is there anyone here who began flexibility training after spending years in the gym first? Anyone who managed to get proper bendy while being strong? Do you have any tips for anyone following in your footsteps? Any advice would be appreciated :)

Warm up in really hot weather

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 08:56 PM PDT

Hey guys, it's so hot where I live that I spend most part of the day sweating and I feel myself pretty hot too (I am talking about my body temperature here ok?) and while I was warming up for my daily stretches I thought about this and got curious. Do you guys know if inside body's temperature raise as well and if warming up is still optimal, or does it get a little optional for really hot days?

    Front Split

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 09:27 AM PDT

I've been practicing my front split for about 3 weeks now. I'm not too far from the ground, but I've been at the same spot for the the past few days. I feel like I'm plateauing. It's like it's hard for me to go any deeper. Anyone have any advice ?

    Calves/Preventatively Inflexible Areas

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 10:46 AM PDT

I've been stretching a couple of times a week for the past month, nothing too serious. I have a question/realization about calf flexibility. Oftentimes hamstring stretches don't work for me. In that whenever I do them they just stretch my calves. For years, it never dawned on me why I never took the muscle group the stretch was supposed to be for in too seriously, because I was/am so inflexible that the targeted muscle groups for many stretches can't be accessed. Of course I'm working towards that now, and with greater clarity as working on the preventatively inflexible areas, but for me this is a breakthrough.

This leads me to my next question. At some point when doing full leg/hamstring/split type stretches, are your calves so loose that they don't feel uncomfortable? Is there always a small yet minimal pain? Think people who can sit chest to thigh in pike. Is no calf pain what I am aiming for? Or will there always be pain/discomfort and I am just aiming to be able to do it? Please let me know if that makes sense/and if so your answers. Thanks 🙏🏾

Chronically tight muscles, especially n my hips and I'm always in pain- can anyone help?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 05:14 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

Hope this is okay to post but I am looking some some help as I'm sick of feeling pain. I am a 26 year old female, who is a healthy weight and moderately active

For as long as I can remember (since being about 10/11) I have had awful pain from my glutes and hips, which doctors and physios put down to piriformis syndrome. I was given stretches and strength building exercises to help, bit despite this the pain has never gone away. The pain is now in both legs, which is aggravated by sitting and routinely sends pins and needles into my feet.

I've started yoga in the past six months and it's become particularly prevalent to how un-stretchy I am. Sitting forward folds and pigeon pose are nearly impossible due to tingling/cramping in my hips - and when I lie flat on my back I get a deep ache in my lower back area which is only relieved by sitting up. The pain and stiffness I feel is getting worse the older I get, and I regularly wake up on the mornings with severe tightness all over my body, where it hurts to look down and my shoulders and fingers feel almost swollen (?). I gather

I know there is some issues in my knees, too as I used to be a keen runner but can't run for more than a few minutes before I get the same pain in my hip and my left knee.

I've been to see various physios and a biomechanic and I've had varying diagnoses, specifically hip inpingement and itb syndrome but they have remained puzzled as I am otherwise quite healthy. I work an office job, which I know isn't ideal and my main hobby is playing the violin which also involves a lot of sitting down and unnatural posture.

So, my question is - Is there anyone out there who is similarly chronically stiff/not flexible? Am I destined to being limited in my flexibility , or is there any exercises you would further recommend? It's worth nothing that I plan to book in with another physio over the next few months when covid has gotten better, and possibly get some blood tests done to make sure there's no underlying causes.

    Thank you!
