Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.

    Performing with the FeetUp Trainer?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 12:28 AM PDT

To spread the word about how productive/helpful the Feetup Trainer has been with my handstand progress (along with how it helped a few of my friends who were impressed get to try some acrobatics), does anyone think it'd make for a good eye-catching performance, if I randomly began demonstrating poses with it in public like at a park?

Advice is very much needed for this beginner.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:56 PM PDT

Hey Reddit! I am a beginner to Calisthenics and Flexibility training. Been doing it about 3 months now. I've gone from no strength or flexibility to now being able to do a FrogStand and a bridge.

My lower back is a huge issue and seems to take over in everything I do. Any cues or tips that anyone could share? For example just bending down to touch my toes, seems like my lower back takes over.

I definitely have tight traps and shoulders and that's something I need to sort also, but that can be for another day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Stretching/bodybuilding routine advice?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:02 PM PDT

Hey redditors, I looked around and couldn't find any relevant FAQs or threads about this, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat.

I'm a 29 year old male, been working on bodybuilding for a few years (trying to go from out-of-shape to fit, not going for competition sizes or anything) and have been working hard on flexibility for about 2 months now, trying to go from average flexibility to very flexible - full front and middle splits, pancake, etc. The information and resources in this subreddit have been incredibly helpful and have demonstrated to me that I need to change up my stretching routine for optimization - but with it being so much like bodybuilding, where you can only work your muscles so much before they need a day to recover, will my bodybuilding interfere with my stretching routine? If I do leg day on the same day I work hard on hamstrings, will I blunt my flexibility or bulking progress? Can I stretch for flexibility on a recovery day for those muscles? How should I be programming my flexibility training alongside my bodybuilding? Obviously strength training alongside flexibility is a very successful combination, so there must be an optimum way to program both at the same time, right?

Progress is already slow for both of these things so I don't want to make them any slower than they need to be. Any guidance here would be great.

What would you suggest to someone who has always failed at stretching his calves?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:08 PM PDT

Posting here hoping someone more experienced gives me any tip or hint about what should I do, thanks in advance to everyone that cares about this

Context: Everytime I've tried to stretch my calves in various ways, I end up with even more tight calves and sometimes achilles pain (that one is completely my fault though, but I've got to tell the whole story, right?)

    What I've done:

    • Rolling my calves, then stretching based on overall feeling (most recent, didn't go as I expected unfortunately, tightened my calves for some days) • Doing some weigthed eccentric single leg calf raises (such long name) and then doing some seated towel stretch while benting a little (this went nice, but was so random that I didn't want to risk it doing it again, did I got it right that time?) • Doing a really long lunge stretch (worst thing I've done) • Hip Hinge stretches, since my calves are tighter than my hamstrings signs (No result)

If this works as reference, right now, the maximum distance at which I can touch a wall with my knee is 5cm my with left foot and 6cm with my right foot.

    Rear Hand Clasp--improving but painful?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 03:06 PM PDT

So I've been working on my flexibility and my rear hand clasp is making good progress. I can get a good clasp with right arm up, but with my right arm down it is painful. I can get my fingers locked that way, but I've been sticking with the towel to try and work on alignment. My right shoulder comes forward when I do it whereas when my left arm is down, my shoulder stays neutral/back (think good posture shoulder placement.)

Is this a muscular tension that I can stretch out with something else? Or is it possible that it's skeletal? My spine is very out of whack between my shoulder blades.

This isn't just a matter of less flexibility, or at least not solely. When I first started, my left side was less flexible than my right is now, but my shoulder never came forward.

I always have horrible muscle knots under just my right side so I'm not sure if that gives any insight to what's going on.
