The ego tricked me out of meditation for 10 years Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:14 AM PDT When I was 23, I suffered massive traumas. Finding my sister dead, watching my dog get hit by a car. I was driven mad by these events, gave up alcohol and drugs, and meditated my way into a state of flow with Life. My life became good. I was at peace in a way I was unaware of, until it began to wear off. Slowly, I stopped practicing mindfulness and meditation. The simplicity of staying present faded as my mind became full of "spiritual concepts" such as enlightenment etc. The state left me and for years I was always wondering what I had been doing in the beginning that gave me that peace. I could not find it. Despite my efforts meditation, I could not find my way back. 10 years later, I can see how the ego tricked me out of meditation. In the beginning, it was simply this: remain present. After experiencing the state of peace, slowly the goal became: attain that state of peace. This is where the issue arose. Peace comes about as the RESULT of presence. If peace becomes the GOAL, presence CANNOT be found, because the pursuit of a concept has begun. The goal, for me anyways, MUST be to just come back to what is now. I cannot hold on to any concepts of what might come about as a result of my meditation practice, for that will take me away from what meditation actually is. Now that I have found this, I've begun to return to the peace I had lost a decade ago. Years of suffering have brought me back to this realization. That and Eckhart Tolle. The pain of mind is too great to stay there. Wanted to share this important lesson for me. Hope it helps someone else. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:10 PM PDT Just wanted to share my thoughts with you! I am learning the importance of being silent. I am learning that not every situation or conversation needs my two cents in. Not everyone needs to know my opinion about a particular subject. I have been practicing observing and listening without attaching myself. In the past I have always had this desire to prove myself to others or let them know my stand on things or try to convince someone of whatever issue that was discussed. I feel like the less we speak and the more we listen we are perceived as mysterious because we don't give off everything about ourselves. I don't know if it makes sense (i am not good with words). I feel like its so much better to drop the issue and become mindful of our surrounding. Does anyone else feel like this? [link] [comments] |
How to avoid going to sleep while meditating Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:40 PM PDT I usually meditate after my yoga practice. In the process of calming and observing my thoughts, I tend to become unconscious or subconscious or go to a state of sleep [link] [comments] |
We are not living life. We are life. Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:00 AM PDT Human Beings miss the most obvious element in their experience and that's why suffering is inevitable. The moment we don't see that we are not what we have been conditioned to be, all the trouble arises. We believe to be a sepperate self with a certain name, hobbies, attitude, opinions, interests, history, fears- strategising existence over and over until we finally wake up from this dream. Waking up simply means to see the absurdity in being a person. We are not all theese ideas, how can we be a concept? When we no longer believe and identify with any ideas, than we are free. What remains when there is no identity? The unspeakable. We try to name it such as Consciousness, Emptiness, Awareness, Brahman, God, but truly it cannot be labeled nor described. It's not limited by any quality, shape, form or description. It's pure Infinity. There is only this pure Infinity, everything else are just concepts. Don't believe my words, but look within your own experience. Don't hold unto any idea and see whether something is missing in this state of being. We all seek perfect Happiness and satisfaction. The truth is the only causeless source of Happiness. It is causeless, therefore it is Infinite. We are Happines itself. Thank you <3. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:07 PM PDT Like say, if they tell you to take a walk and u find yourself in a cluster of tress walking, then hear you're near water/hear water now there is the added task of adding water. So, at this point I'll usually stop the video and just try to focus on my own thing. Just wanted to hear people's experience with this [link] [comments] |
A remedy against FOMO: "Time is unfolding at its normal pace" Posted: 01 Oct 2020 02:22 AM PDT This sentence is one of my favourite principles to think about when meditating. In times where everything seems to move fast, many people (including myself) have a general ongoing FOMO. Realise that you can slow down. Time always moves at the same pace, and this is a good opportunity to use that time to calm down. Focus on your breath and body. Let the time unfold in its natural way while being consciously present. How do you deal with FOMO? [link] [comments] |
Psychedelics and spiritual practice Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:57 PM PDT Hey, I've been meditating on/off for 9 months now. I've done acid before and after a 10 day meditation retreat but haven't done it in the past 7 months or so. I've been pretty regular about my meditation practice but was wondering if anyone felt like taking psychedelics had adverse affects on your spiritual practice. Looking for any insight on how/if psychedelics permanently affect spiritual practice/growth [link] [comments] |
The more you meditate the more you want to meditate Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:09 AM PDT I just end my morning meditation and i just want to go back to my meditative state. I'ma heavy stoner barely smoke everyday and i dont want no more. Its like meditation can delete my weed addiction. Its like meditation is a drug but not a illusionary one, but the purest of all Time. Its Like meditation destroy pain and anxiety instead of just put it to the side for a Few hours. Meditation make you fell in love with you, meditation and self development. Meditation can show you the true you and the true world. Meditation can give you unconditionnal love and make you connected to the Spirit world. I love meditation [link] [comments] |
The paradox of meditating for something Posted: 01 Oct 2020 02:28 AM PDT I've been mediating for about 2 months now. And in my last sit I remember thinking at one stage "when does meditation get fun?". I see all these posts, read these books and listen to people talk about amazing meditative experiences. And it's polluting my practice. I feel desperate to attain some state. And I know this is folly. That to reach these places you just simply be present. But how? I find it a totally unapproachable concept. Sometimes I sit and it's all groovy. But most of the time I am aware of me trying to do something right, to avoid something wrong, to practice properly. Anyone else sailing/sailed in this boat? [link] [comments] |
I did 20 hours of mediation over 3 weeks - my experience Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:22 PM PDT I've seen a lot of posts lately of people sharing their stories of 1000 hours, 3 years or months long retreats. Those are all very motivational but they can also be intimidating. So I thought I would share my very achievable victory with you :) For 3 weeks I did one cumulative hour of meditating each day. Starting with 5 minutes for 12 times and ending with an one hour sitting on the last day. I am not new to mediation but I usually just do 20 minutes for a while and then pause for a few weeks. I think a lot of you are similar. It was definitely worth it. My sweet spot is 3x20 minutes or 2x30 minutes, cause they are easiest to integrate into my life. Glad, that I learned that for a time where it is not so easy to meditate a full hour. I feel way better after an hour of meditation, though, than after only 20 minutes, so I will stay at one hour as long as it's manageable. I still cannot sit for the whole hour. Sometimes it gets boring. I see my mind wandering more and more, trying to guess how much time is left, but I manage. Worst thing is that I tend to doze off after 40 minutes for about 5 or so. Not completely, just enough to notice the change. But I come out of it really refreshed and able to meditate really nicely. I noticed some changes, though, and those make it really worth it. Directly after meditating I am very present for a while without having to try. It holds until I engage in something consuming, like my work. But also little moments of presence start to happen on their own, just out of nowhere. Those moments aren't anything special like a sunset but everyday boring task like setting the table and suddenly I am fully there, no mind chatter, just noticing the dishes and the feelings on my skin without having to try. I am so happy that this change already occured so fast and am looking forward to deepen it. I also noticed, that I am not stressing out so much and not reacting that much to my emotions. I got some really stupid news at work which angered me a lot. I just noticed my anger and instead of writing a very angry email back and feeling ashamed later, I wrote a very nice and understanding email back and felt kind of proud of myself later. Everyday stress also reduced immensely, but that was to be expected. I didn't notice a better pain management so far, but I already am used to my chronic pain. I still hope to make progress on this front, though. My pain might get worse in the future. Overall I am really happy to have dedicated those 20 hours of meditation and I will keep going. I encourage all of you to try 20 hours, too. It's not too big of a commitment and you can see for yourself if you enjoy the effects. If you've got any questions, I am happy to answer :) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:24 PM PDT To stay in a meditative state throughout the day, pay close attention to your breathe and your thoughts. Practice being aware of these two and everything else will align for your benefit and others. Stay blessed. [link] [comments] |

Newbie questions. Please share your insights! Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:56 PM PDT Hi, I started meditating for about 2 months and these days, I couldn't help but to have questions. So if someone with experience can explain to me, it will really help me out.
I seriously get lost sometime with this idea of " you are not thoughts or emotions " yet we can't survive without being dependent on them both physically and mentally. If someone tries to kill you, you would run away because you "think" you have to so you follow your thoughts. You get hungry, you feel so sad about it, so you eat. If you treat them like strangers, wouldn't you become someone with no emotions in the end ? Sorry for grammar. [link] [comments] |
I don't know if I'm allowed to ask questions, but... How do I make sure I practice everyday Posted: 30 Sep 2020 05:57 PM PDT Whenever I meditate, it feels great, but I'm never able to stay on the right track. And end up losing myself, until the next time I find meditation again. I see all the time, people seem to be better at everything compared to me, they don't need reminders, and I simply can't remember myself [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:44 PM PDT So I have continuing meditating for past 8 months ever since I have experienced Spiritual awakening and I had felt such a deep realities with this ...and you know bliss flowing through me and my frequency of masturbating had reduced because of this ...while working I used to meditate , while walking , even lying in bed before sleeping , morning afternoon . For last 2 days because of some intense busy day I didn't do that and it made me dull , little bit you know stagnant..do you think I am doing it too much ? ..I just opened my brain that I have never experienced .. awakening changed my life [link] [comments] |
