Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:27 AM PDT I've found that having a slight smile (even faking it) while meditating or just going throughout my day to be super beneficial. I am someone who always used to try to live life with a smile on my face. I stopped doing that over the last few years while in college because someone in my fraternity had called me out for smiling too much. I think the lesson learned is do what makes you happy despite others opinions. If you love to smile then please freaking smile. I've been depressed the last few months, partially because of 2020 in general but also my parent's stance on politics. I had realized a few weeks ago that I hadn't smiled for no reason in a long time. Along with good habits, I've made a ton of progress with my mental health. Just wanted to share and hope that someone sees this and remembers to smile for no reason 🙏🏼☺️ [link] [comments]
| Meditation saved me but I do not respect it for its true value Posted: 02 Oct 2020 12:53 AM PDT Hello, So here I discovered meditation 2 months ago, and after years of restlessness and anxiety I felt like I had found something that finally allowed me to breathe. I am actually falling in love with this practice. But today I have the impression of wanting to look for solutions to my anxieties there, whereas that is not the goal of meditation. In addition, these last days for example have been agitated for me but I did not meditate whereas it would have done me the greatest good. I feel like it's when I need it most that I don't practice. This practice is wonderful and I wish I had discovered it sooner, it could have saved me 10 years of anxiety and suffering. Finally, thank you to this exchange community, gratitude! | Counting breath awareness using finger sense Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:02 PM PDT It's good to count breaths to have some idea of time passing, because the mind easily jumps to other tasks. Counting using words is distracting though, I have to remember words while breathing, so I discoveted it's very useful to sense the breath with sensory awareness of my fingers, from thumb to little finger, i.e. right to left. That way, i can count to 10 without thinking of any numbers and its waaaay more calm mentally. It makes for a good meditative travel, especially with a happy smile as someone wisely suggested! | Empty feeling after Metta (loving kindness meditation) Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:46 PM PDT I do mindfulness meditation, but Metta is really hard for me. I do feel some sensation in my heart, but feel so bad that I'm not good at compassion. I need to work on attunement though. Is this normal? [link] [comments] |

If you pay close attention you may find that the one who treats you the worst, BY FAR, is yourself. Posted: 01 Oct 2020 12:02 PM PDT The ways in which we talk to ourslves and think about ourselves is something often hidden to us. I am not including actual abuse and trauma experiences in this. But the day to day abuse we heap on ourselves can be such a brutal grind and so destructive. [link] [comments]
Are we so focused on WATCHING that we are forgetting to EXPRESS? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 07:42 PM PDT For a while I've thought this could be an interesting topic of conversation here. I have been very lucky to build a relationship with an older gentleman I consider to be enlightened. He is a big Osho guy. I know Osho is controversial but it doesn't really matter. Anyway we were talking and he was saying that his problem with Buddhism and a lot of traditional meditation is that it teaches people to watch, whereas his boy Osho taught people to express. (and also to watch). So I've really taken this to heart and tried some intense meditations like osho dynamic. But I've also just used meditation as a space to let my body express what's there. and there is... a lot haha. For me what this looks like often is throwing a silent temper tantrum. Often tears come. Or, to paint another picture, that antsy feeling you are probably familiar with after you have been sitting still for a while - I'm starting to find that sometimes there is nothing wrong with letting the body just shake and get all that antsy-ness out. I don't know. It just feels very right to let the body express what it needs to - In my case maybe 20+ years of repressed emotions. Although I'm definitely very much in the beginning of this journey. Curious to hear thoughts. Namaste. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:39 PM PDT I have just started meditating, I would live to know how everyone got started and good at it. I also do yoga and was curious if I could meditate through that. I am trying to let go of past trauma with meditation I don't know if that makes a difference or not but thanks in advance [link] [comments]
ISO App or website for meditation Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:11 AM PDT I don't really struggle with anxiety or sleep but I just want to get into a deep form of meditation. I have no experience with it and have no idea where to start but I just want those kinds of experiences where I'm so focused on myself and so relaxed I can really reflect and think about life in a non stressful way if that makes sense. I'm thinking if there's an app or website, yt channel, etc. that can guide me and is a little more than just "take deep breaths" kind of thing (hopefully that doesn't sound snobby. You get the point) that you can recommend please do. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:00 AM PDT I realize I want to do something to get a goal, like do work. So I create a plan. But later I get distracted or want to do something else. The desire to follow the original plan is just a thought. The desire to do something different is just a thought. The gut feeling that says I should follow the plan is just a thought. I get caught up in this feeling of observing many thoughts, but not knowing which is worth following. So how do we reason what thought to follow? When we distance ourselves from our thoughts and observe them all, how do we know which direction to go? [link] [comments]
Is candle meditation bad for your eyes? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 04:47 PM PDT Basically you're suppose to focus on the candle flame but I don't wanna do it if it damages my eyes. [link] [comments]
Does anyone mainly concentrate on the sounds around them? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:24 PM PDT I feel like when I concentrate on the fan blowing in my room it really brings this different sense of reality, which I believe is just being present, although it's just a slight feeling. I need to then forget the thoughts and mind and stay there. Any one else? Any tips? [link] [comments]
How has meditation changed your life? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:45 PM PDT I like to hear other peoples stories. Do they help you become more disciplined, does it help you focus on other things better like school work or your job? Has it chnaged the way you interact with people etc? I used to do mindfullness twice a day but i dont remember what it did for me, i guess it helped me stop bad habits. [link] [comments]

Struggling with my emotions and leaving a bad relationship Posted: 01 Oct 2020 06:47 PM PDT I've just left a toxic relationship that has caused me stress and pain, I feel better and more logical now. I know that this decision is right, but yet I struggle. I struggle with the "hope" that turning back and having this chance at a better time (we were dealing with personal issues before that are over) would allow things to work out. I've been trying to meditate to better reflect and understand what is right for me. I ask myself, "Would someone who loves themselves make this decision?" and the answer is a consistent "no", Yet I struggle, hope is a scary thing. How do you guys cope with this? What has meditating brought to light/ taught you? [link] [comments]

Something strange happened while meditating Posted: 01 Oct 2020 12:29 PM PDT So I usually like to do my meditation in the morning I put a relaxing music, close my eyes and go through the process. Today while meditating I found myself climbing some white stairs and when I got to the top of the stairs there was a white door and it felt really peaceful and right at the moment when I wanted To open the door my headphones run out of battery which I found really weird like something stopped me from opening that door and unfortunately I couldn't focus anymore. Has anyone experienced this before ? [link] [comments]
Looking for some experienced meditation teachers Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:40 PM PDT Hey everyone! I thought I would pop over to this sub to ask if anyone wants to teach mindfulness meditation on a google meet type format for a digital sangha I've started. The sangha would operate on Reddit. You don't have to be Buddhist to join, you just need to be an experienced meditator. We would really appreciate your knowledge! Let me know in the comments if you think you are a right fit for the sangha and I will PM you. If this isn't a good spot to ask can you point me somewhere else? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:05 AM PDT This is more concentrated in the forehead region and almost feels like a headache. And everytime this happens I almost feel high. I can't tell if these are good signs or not. A lot of well meaning meditation practicioners have told me that the tingling in my forehead is a sign that my third eye opening but in all honesty that answer just annoyed me. If anyone has a genuine scientific explanation for why this happens and if it's a good sign or not, I would really like to know. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
