Meditation: Just got laid off. I feel truly FREE

Just got laid off. I feel truly FREE

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 07:45 PM PDT

I was at home teaching my 5 year old son how to read and I received the phone call from my job.. human resources and my supervisor were both on the line. They explained to me that since planes aren't flying as often that the aerospace machinist workforce had to be reduced by 30 employees. I was one of those machinists.
Because of meditation, I saw this as a gift of freedom from the universe instead of a life crushing problem. I am now ONLY obligated to my family. I know that the Universe will always provide me with what I truly need. This must be what true happiness feels like. I am free

Sitting meditation is difficult, especially with unmanaged emotions. But mindfulness can be practiced exactly anytime and anywhere. It has dramatically shifted my perspective and provided me more insight than even two or more hours of sitting meditation ever has.

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 02:13 PM PDT

Awareness is like a muscle strengthened by meditation. Sitting meditation is very deliberate and can be perceived as a chore. Even a mindful exercise like yoga can seem like a bump in the road for less motivated people like myself.

Live in the present, live with purpose, manage your emotions. It's a practice of course and one that has taken me years of practice to get to the point where I can live mindfully 90% of the day. Curiosity and fascination has overtaken anxiety and depression and it's the most damn content I've been.

I am not suggesting active mindfulness to replace sitting meditation but rather to put less pressure on you to do a "session" but meditate in a way you can manage and still see great (maybe better?) results.

If meditation is like medicine, then what kinds of meditation cater to different needs?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 03:34 PM PDT

For the past month I have been doing mindfulness meditation, basically just observing the breath. But, I was told that mediation is like medicine where you need to do different types of mediation depending on particular needs you have.

So could someone list the different types of mediation and what needs they cater to?

The strange link between meditation / inaction and choosing life / action and hapiness.

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 05:23 PM PDT

Just something I'm mulling over. Meditation is about being the observer of thoughts and feelings and is therefore inherently something of a passive skill.

And yet I can't help but feel that one of the primary ways in which it benefits us is that is allows us to more effortlessly take actions in our life. And it is so often the actions that have some of the largest impacts.

Perhaps it kind of lubricates the mind lol. But by decluttering it of the junk that tends to so often occupy us all the time. So that we can see more clearly the actions we wish or wish not to take?

It's just interesting because one skill is passive and the other is active and yet they seem to benefit each other toward peace and hapiness.

    Awesome meditation instruction!

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:56 PM PDT

Just wanted to share this for everyone that needs it.

I was looking for a thorough explanation of technique but did not want to read a book and I also rather read than watch a video.

So, I found this site and it's awesome:

anyone see colours when they meditate?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:13 PM PDT

I've recently begun meditating and I keep seeing yellow, purple, and blue whenever I meditate. I see it in different forms.. sometimes it's yellow, purple and blue figures watching over me as I meditate, sometimes it's just those colours rushing through my body, sometimes they're orbs in my stomach. I don't know if I'm just creating this in my head or if it has some spiritual meaning.. any thoughts?

World Mental Health Day - A Message from the Medito Team

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 02:21 AM PDT

    World Mental Health Day

Each year the World Health Organization observes World Mental Health Day on October 10th. As a part of this event, they organize mental health resources and awareness. This has been an eventful year for many of us, and it's important to remain mindful of our mental health as we are challenged to adapt to our changing world.

Here is this year's page for mental health resources. Here is a page dedicated to mental health and COVID-19.

You can also follow along on other social media platforms by following @WHO or the tags #MentalHealForAll and #WorldMentalHealthDay

    Medito's Story:

About a year ago, a post was made on reddit asking for volunteers to work on a completely free mindfulness meditation app. From those simple beginnings, the Medito app was launched on April 20th, 2020. The app gained some good early traction, and we had an early influx of volunteers. Thanks to the diversity of their input and experience, Medito is much better today than the day we launched it!

These days we're working hard on creating new content and reaching more people. Our user base is growing and we're hoping to grow our team as well. If you'd like to volunteer in any way, please you can visit this page to learn more!

The Medito team is dedicated to making sure everyone, everywhere, has free access to the tools of mindfulness meditation and to mental health resources in general.

We hope you take some time today to take care of your mental wellbeing, and to be mindful of the present moment. ❤️

my succinct way of understanding meditation - how to do it right as a beginner

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:29 PM PDT

It's more important to let the raw emotions and pain just be. And the ones we actually need to quiet are the impulsive thoughts and impulsive actions.

But the only way to quiet the last two is by not fighting the first two.

The first two are unavoidable, but we keep avoiding them.

The last two are the ways in which we try to escape the first two.

So the last two wouldn't exist or would at least naturally lessen if we weren't trying to stop the first two.

context: This was something I told someone who was just starting out and said she wasn't seeing effects. She said she was still emotional and her thoughts were in disarray.

What I noticed in myself is I tend to curb my procrastination problem more effectively whenever I'm in touch with the physical pain of emotion. But whenever I try to overthink solutions (basically, when I try too hard), my bad habits start resurfacing.

So I know I've made progress if I'm able to concentrate despite the pain and heaviness that I'm feeling.

Also, beginners tend to judge themselves too much about their meditation progress. They usually expect to feel more zen--almost like treating it as an escape.

But when you actually feel that there is no more escaping pain, when you've exhausted your options and you've surrendered, that is when you're the most focused and in control.

Releasing control puts you in control. Fascinating, right?

    You get what you seek.

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 02:48 PM PDT

If you are meditating to seek insight, insight shall be had. If you are meditating to achieve spiritual experience, spiritual experience shall be had. Understand your intention and be aware of it just like any other conditioned phenomena (see it just as you see your senses and thoughts).

This insight is only an insight to you because you perceive it that way. Equally this tingling sensation in your head, or vibrating of your body, etc. is a supernatural or spiritual experience because you perceive it that way.

Embrace these experiences, but tread carefully as not to get lost in the thoughts ABOUT these insights or experiences. Much love 💚

How bad is it to mediate with music?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 07:20 PM PDT

I've always struggled with meditation, but lately I've been trying it with ambient music and it's helped a lot. I'm just wondering if this is a bad idea? I feel more relaxed after, but I don't want to get in the habit of doing it "wrong."

What happens when all my stress and intrusive thoughts are now gone thanks to meditation but I stop doing it, will it come back?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 11:38 AM PDT

Trauma led me to explore open-eyed meditation and I love it!

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 12:00 AM PDT

I recently suffered a traumatic experience and desperately needed to calm my body and mind, but closing my eyes made me feel scared and vulnerable.

So I tried meditating with my eyes open, observing what was in front of me but not really focusing on it. I just took some deep but unregulated breaths and allowed thoughts to come and go without attaching any significance to them.

In minutes I began to feel better. I'm still exploring all the different forms of meditation but so far this is my favourite technique.

    Meditation in a nutshell

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 11:57 PM PDT

Hey ,guys I want to tell you what my experience with meditation in the past couple of days. I started meditation from 9th grade, I was doing only for the benefits. I was not consistent at all, because I have bad habits too at that time like porn addiction .... etc.

Now to after 4 years , I am at grade 12. Right now I am meditating 20 mins everyday and you might feel like I am joking but yesterday (9/10/20) while meditating a thought came that my friend will message me at tomorrow evening whether I will come to play cricket on Sunday morning

And you what it actually happen he whatsapp me the next day (I cannot share the screenshot )

Maybe it just a coincidence but I was amazed (And we don't play every Sunday )

Help. Am I meditating or just disassociating?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 11:50 AM PDT

I apologize in advance for the general nature of this question but my practice is pretty basic so I will present my question simply. When I begin meditation I start by kneeling in a comfortable position and finding a comfortable but focused breath. Most of the time I'm just barely staying still and periodically re-centering. At some points I have began to feel 'out of body'.

Although meditation has felt like a relief I sometimes question whether I am actually taking a real burden off of myself by sitting with my practice or if my brain is trying to 'protect' me from the struggle of mindfulness by triggering states of disassociation. Any insight is helpful thank you in advance.
