Unpopular Opinion: I don't like yoga with Adriene. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:10 AM PDT It feels like blasphemy to write. I look for anything but her. If I search for yoga for runners, etc, I scroll past her videos. I feel they are subpar. I've been doing yoga on and off (mostly off) for about a decade. So I'm familiar with various moves and can get through a flow without getting lost, typically. But my body is extremely out of shape; in terms of my body, I'm a beginner. Yet her videos are too easy even after a year+ of no exercise. I don't understand the love for her. I can't be the only one. Edit: I didn't mean to come off as negative. I was just genuinely curious if I was the only one who felt this way--because that's how it really felt! I'm not bashing her, and completely understand the accessibility she offers. I am a little frustrated with how much love she gets when there are other videos that have saved my back, my feet, my shins, my IT band. I feel there are practices people miss out on when one person is so famous. Edit 2: If people want to apply a hateful tone, that's not on me. I was genuinely wondering if I was the only one. Edit 3: I really didn't know it's normal not to jive with every teacher. I've always just blamed myself to one degree or another. Other than watching videos online, I'm not part of a yoga community. What's your favorite video, Adriene or other?[link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:28 PM PDT Has anybody used both apps? If so, what's your opinion? I've been using Down Dog for around 6 months now but keep getting ads for Alo Moves and figured it looks pretty decent. I like Down Dogs features but it's getting kinda repetitive. Worth switching it up? [link] [comments]

For those of you that took a “COVID” break, how did you get back into daily practice? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:14 AM PDT I stepped of my mat when my studio closed in March never successfully began my home practice. I'm on day two and finding i'm so frustrated at not being able to do a simple chaturanga. Any tips for staying motivated and pushing through the soreness? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:43 PM PDT I was doing yoga and I was doing a pose where I lay on my belly and lift up my chest with my arms to stretch my lower back and pull my belly button in as far as possible, pulling my back towards my chest. Well, I did it too far I guess and now when I arch my back backwards I still feel it and it's uncomfortable. Do y'all think it's an injury that will go away or should I get it check out. It's not horrible at all but it feels uncomfortable [link] [comments]
If you judge yourself by your perception of society's values you will never be happy. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:43 PM PDT If you judge yourself by society's idea of success you will always feel like a failure. If you judge yourself by society's idea of wealth you will always feel poor. If you judge yourself by society's idea of strength you will always feel weak. If you judge yourself by society's idea of beauty you will always feel ugly. That's a small part of what the speaker says in this audio. https://vimeo.com/464415710 He goes on to say the answer to this problem is to meditate. He doesn't say what meditation is and he doesn't specifically say why. As far as I can tell meditation is hundreds or thousands of different things or ways. Here are some good ones https://ahymsin.org/main/swami-veda-bharati/14-breath-and-meditation-practices.html Why would a person want to meditate. To solve those first problems. When a person finds out who they really are, the truth, it releases the burden all these problems. In yoga/Vedanta they always tell us the question and the answer. Who we really are is not our body, it is not our mind's thoughts. It is our spirit, the part that never changes. If something changes it is not the truth. [link] [comments]
What do you guys do to protect your wrists? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 12:08 PM PDT Hey Guys, I am a 100kg man who got into yoga due to the closure of gyms in the pandemic. I have completely fallen in love with it and I think I am going to further my practice and not focus on gym anymore. However my wrists have started to hurt and the pain grows everyday after the yoga session. I was wondering what you guys do to better support your wrists in your sessions. [link] [comments]
How to price myself for retreat as an associate? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:12 AM PDT Hi, I'm a yoga instructor who has been asked to come on a retreat (2 days long and a week) to teach my classes, probably one or two a day. It will be in a different country and I'll be there all the time so won't be able to do my work. I've been asked for my daily rate, don't want to underprice myself but really want this opportunity, too. Anyone has experience with pricing for such events? Thanks! [link] [comments]

What is the best way to have a spiritual awakening? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:03 PM PDT Generally, awakening is the process of shifting attention to awareness. Observe your thoughts. When you can observe thoughts and emotions, you can observe the ego. The ego is who you think you are. You might realize that you are able to detach yourself from the ego, that is, detach yourself from the energy of thoughts and emotions. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:02 PM PDT Hi so I started doing yoga at start of this year and only after those few months my wrists started hurting a lot. I even missed yoga practices lately to let them rest but it still hurts a lot especially during and after yoga. Also today I did notice I got weird lump under my wrist which is hard and feels like bone kind of and it is on wrist which hurts the most. I don't know what is it. Any advice? I'm really upset because I want to continue my daily practice but it hurts a lot and this hard thing under my skin worries me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 12:34 PM PDT I notice it especially in warrior one. My whole lower back ends up getting smushed because I feel like my hips have no room to open up. Should I not be having this problem? Are my poses likely off? * If it's relevant, I practice a Baptiste style power yoga [link] [comments]
(Request) Tiger Pose aka Vyaghrasana class Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:48 AM PDT I'm a practiced yogi trying to improve balance, internal rotation, and back flexibility. I'd love to incorporate tiger pose into my practice but without a live instructor, it's hard for me to know if doing it safely and accurately. While I've already read about sequencing, I'm hoping to find an online class that builds to the pose. Does anybody know of one or something similar? More generally, does anybody recommend an app/channel that focuses on more complex pose-building (instead of just vinyasas)? I use Yogaworks platform and there are multitudes of great classes+series, but I'm starting to get a bit fatigued by the catalogue. [link] [comments]
My left knee hurts when I switch legs (when I’m sitting cross-legged) Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:28 AM PDT I'm trying to stretch my hip flexors out, but does anyone else get the same pain on the knee? My left hip is really tight (compared to my right hip). It hurts a lot too lmao [link] [comments]
POPFlex or FrenzyBird Yoga Mats? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:03 AM PDT I've been doing yoga for about 4 years bi-weekly, which has gone up to about daily since COVID started. I've had a very average Gaiam mat (the cheap Target variety) which has been okay, but I'm noticing that as I've used it more, trying to hold poses gets a little slippery. Liforme seems awesome as I tend to practice at home and would like that additional "check" on my alignment that the mat has but $140 is a little steep. I was thinking Manduka but I've heard too many slipping horror stories about breaking them in. Lululemon's mats are great texture wise, the company itself has weird business practices and I just don't love them. I found two cheaper solutions (<$100) and wanted to see if anyone has tried them. PopFlex yoga mats seem to be suede-y and not sticky as a result- they look really cute too. Only concern is that the suede might wear/get gross after a while. FrenzyBird seems to be a cheaper version of Liforme. Mostly just curious if anyone has tried them. Thoughts on these? Any other cheap-ish recs for someone whose hands can't stay in one place? Much appreciated! [link] [comments]

I've hit a "milestone" and I'm honestly just having too difficult a time to celebrate. Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:36 PM PDT I don't even know where to begin here. I'm in day 14 of my 30 day practice, and I just can't celebrate. The past few days, I haven't been able to even try to think about getting onto the mat until 1-2am, and this is because its something I do to put off sleep. Basically, we found a lump on my cat (who I've had for three months and we're already inseparable), and we think its cancerous. I'm really torn up about it with my anxiety, and combined with my not-great homelife, its just spiraled me into depression. I can't sleep because I literally just lay there thinking about the cat and all of the horrible possibilities and I just end up crying. I have really bad dreams because of the stress, too. Its just..increasingly more difficult to practice. Its more difficult to be motivated because I have no motivation. I know everyone says to just sort of clear your mind but sometimes its just impossible. Sometimes I have no energy to even get out of bed. Sometimes I have migraines that last all day because of the stress, and I can't even think about anything other than going back to sleep to stop the pain. Its just hard. I don't know what I'm expecting by posting. Last time I mentioned I had issues, I basically got a bunch of comments from people telling me how its my fault for not "ignoring" the things that happen around me. This isn't realistic, and that's definitely not what I'm looking for here, so please don't say that. Sometimes you can't just simply push everything away from existence for the duration of your practice. That shouldn't be a crime. [link] [comments]
