Starting Ashtanga Yoga at 40... suggestions to avoid practice and setting expectations from self

Hi - I am doing Ashtanga now for couple years..more or less a few times a week... and while can do some poses upto maricha B...have faced so many injuries...like wrist pain/ knee pain etc. Further some of them like supta karma, maricha d etc are outside realm of possibility

I am not naturally flexible and also don't have long limbs so have many incomplete asanas. So I often wonder whether I should just set my bar low and accept what I can do .but leaves me feeling "not good enough "

Can folks suggest practical tips on how to strike the balance re between pushing too hard and getting injured but also putting in the work....especially if achieving the series in full glory is impossible..how to not be demotivated about not accomplishing the next pose....

Your opinion on running and doing yoga?

I heard running defeats the purpose of Ashtanga. Is this true? If yes, how do you change your routine so that you can do both running and yoga?

    Where do I start?

So I am on my school break currently and I really want to start doing yoga. I have never done yoga before. But I really don't know where to start. Also I can't find a instructor near the place I live in, so I have to rely on books and the Internet. Can someone give me advice? If possible, could u suggest some book recommendations?

Easing up on pushing into the pose

    Hi everyone!

I am very very very new to ashtanga and today I had my first 1/2 led primary series with my teacher on zoom.

What I noticed is how incredibly slow the breaths are compared to when I do the practice myself; today I felt as if I couldn't keep up with the long inhales and exhales. It got me thinking maybe I am pushing too hard on the forward folds to the point where my breath is much quicker and I loose quality; if so, is it better to back off on folding as much but rather keeping a longer inhale and exhale?

Also I felt today towards the end not being able to keep up with the breath and panting as I usually only do until marichyasana a.

    Thank you so much!

    Daniel
