| APT and high hamstring injury... should I give up hope for splits? Posted: 03 Nov 2020 05:51 PM PST For context, I'm an aerialist (aerial hoop and pole dance) so pretty good upper body strength but not massive lower body strength and my core isn't amazing either. Flexibility is very desirable in the aerial world, and while I have a pretty flexible back/shoulders that respond well to stretching, when it comes to splits, I have problems. 18 months ago after regular stretching I finally got my front splits, but then the day after touchdown I had a doubles partner pull on my front leg while in a split (upside down) and I heard a very loud crunching/popping noise and felt discomfort in my high hamstring, right up near my glute. Got checked out at a minor injuries unit and a somewhat disinterested nurse told me I'd probably just sprained my hamstring, and to not train for a couple of weeks. The pain was manageable, I never struggled to walk, but it never got completely better. I didn't try my splits again and didn't stretch for a while. For the past few months I've been trying to stretch again to get my splits back and have been doing hamstring targeted stretches but am seeing no improvement and the pain in my high hamstring is now a constant dull ache. I'm also pretty sure I have a quite significant anterior pelvic tilt, and I know this can cause/exacerbate tight hamstrings, so I'm planning to start strengthening my core and glutes to try to counteract it, and sleep with a pillow under my knees etc. However, I'm not sure what this means in terms of stretching. I know that stretching already overstretched hamstrings from APT makes them worse rather than better and I think that's what's happened to me, as well as aggravating my injury. Im just not sure what to do from here, does that mean I'll never be able to stretch my hamstrings again? Should I give up on my goal of getting my splits back? And does anyone have any advice on helping this kind of old injury, or even any insight on what the injury actually is based on the description? Literally any advice or encouragement right now would be massively appreciated, as I'm feeling quite sad about my prospects :-( Thanks in advance [link] [comments] | ||

| My 'splits' are weird, i think. Posted: 03 Nov 2020 05:37 AM PST Have been doing some stretches for like 4 days in a roll and in the past i have tried too. The thing is that I am strething my legs and hips and one of the stretches is you trying your split, whatever it is. Is it normal for someone like me who just started to have the legs kinda of curve? I can open my legs (not full) but when I do my leg in the back kinda of curve and I dont know if I am stretching the legs right. Should I force my leg to not curve or in the beginning is normal? Any help is welcome. Sorry about the english. [link] [comments] | ||
