Learning how to do the splits and wheel pose has thought me the one thing I’ve lacked my whole life Patience

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 12:42 AM PST

I've always been the most inflexible person among everyone ever since I was a child I could never do the easy pose( sitting with my legs crossed) let alone a butterfly pose, could never touch my toes and I would always hear your a kid how are you so stiff already and I was a bit jealous that everyone else could do such easy things and I couldn't, first time I saw someone do a split, it looked cool and I wish I could but I couldn't, I was told only people born flexible can do it, so I gave up already and also in my culture there is this myth that if you do the splits it means you're not a virgin and I believed that almost my whole life, so that also discouraged me, so I decided to just keep admiring does that could do it, last year I decided to try and learn the splits I started a one month challenge, at the end of the month there was barely no progress and I was frustrated and gave up if I couldn't learn it in a month then I would never learn it. This year I began to read people's progress stories and how it took them months or years and I decided I'm tired of wishing I could do this, I'm going to set myself a goal to learn the splits by the end of 2021 I decided not to set an unrealistic Time period and I was told myself if by the end of 2021 you still don't get it it's fine, just be happy with every little progress and because I so easily get frustrated and give up I decided to write motivational notes on my yoga blocks, my screen saver, and my journal in case of days I felt discouraged. I still haven't gotten my splits but it's fine I'm just glad I stuck this long it's been 4 months now. I'm just proud of myself for not giving up and I'm still learning along the way what stretches feels right and what doesn't. Sorry if this post is a bit long

I would also appreciate ideas on dynamic stretching started it recently especially for the back and hips because my hips are my stiffest area. Thanks

Why do you have to stretch for long periods of time Each rep? Why can’t you just stretch for 2 seconds?

Sorry if this is a stupid question I am new to this and just want to know exactly why this is the case.

    Tightness and pain groin

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:40 PM PST

Male 32 years old, 165 lbs and 5 foot 10. I have been dealing with tightness and some pain in my right groin muscle I think, maybe inner thigh? So the muscle or joint I am having issues with is the one that stretches when doing the sitting butterfly stretch. My left knee leg gets a lot closer to the ground than my right knee. Has anyone dealt with this? Is the tightness on the right side causing the discomfort? Should I be stretching or strengthening? What would you recommend for stretches or strength exercises for treatment? Thanks!

Hi I'm new here if somebody could help me out that would be very beneficial?

I have tendonitis in my knees that I have started a regimen of stretches for what I would like to know is if it is normal for a deeper stretch later on in a series to seem to take less time than a shallow stretch early on? Also please feel free to ask for clarification I know everybody has a very different experience physically mentally and emotionally to much of this.

    Feet arches and pointe tips?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 01:39 PM PST

Hi! I'm 20 years old and just recently started taking ballet classes, it has been a dream of mine for a long time but only now I can actually do it. Anyways, I've been struggling a bit with my flexbility in general, but my flat feet is what bothers me the most. What are some stretches/excercises for beautiful arched feet and pointe that you guys can recommend me?

Is it normal for my legs to vibrate after stretching

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 11:05 AM PST

I've been stretching for 4 months now and yesterday while I was stretching my hips began to shake, I don't know if this is normal, does it mean I over worked the muscles in my hips, my goal was to get the splits by the end of December I started with passive stretching and just last week started dynamic stretching, I wish I knew about dynamic stretching earlier

My children laugh at me because I can’t sit in a squat.....

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:50 AM PST

Has anyone actually ever gotten from the point where you fall backwards if you try to deep squat (I fail the dorsiflexion test), to where you can sit in a deep squat for 10 minutes without holding on?

If so how did you do it?

I focus on calf stretching, then hamstrings, a little quads, little hips, then sit in a deep squat for 10 minutes a day holding on to a bed post. No luck so far.
