    Lost chaturanga

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:48 PM PST

Hi everyone - over the past year I have lost my chaturanga and am trying to figure out how why/how to fix it. About a year and a half ago, I hurt my back and still have some lingering issues. I also gained some weight so between the two, my practice is not as strong. I am now no longer able to do push-ups or chaturanga - I am only able to lower about a quarter of the way when my back collapses and I feel strain in my neck. I can accept that I need to build up more strength/lose the weight but this feels like a different issue. Has anyone experienced this before? I have also noticed this strain/pressure in ab exercises like crunches as well.

    Yoga After Break Up?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:59 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I've (21F) been a very casual practitioner for the last 2 years or so but for the last 4-6 months, I stopped and let other things take priority in my life. I went through a break up in September and I am just now processing my feelings and pain associated with it. Bottom line is, I thought she was my "person" and that I had found "true love" but I guess she feels differently now. Regardless, I am really suffering and I have vowed to start doing daily yoga to help myself cope with this. Does anyone have any experiences doing yoga to help ease heartbreak or after a breakup? I love the Youtube channel "Yoga With Adriene" but if there's any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

    Manduka's "Lifetime Guarantee"/ Customer Service

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:12 AM PST

I've had my Pro 85 mat for almost two months, and I noticed yesterday that there is a small tear on the bottom of the mat. This really surprised me because I only use the mat at home, and I'm not swinging it at sharp objects. The tear is small, but I'm worried about it ripping further over time from the stress of the mat being rolled and unrolled everyday.

I contacted Manduka about it, and they responded by asking what I use to clean the mat, and asked for proof of purchase. I told them I clean it only with white vinegar, heavily diluted with water, and that I have never cleaned the bottom of the mat (where the tear is). I provided proof of purchase from Dick's Sporting Goods. They responded:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi --------,

Thank you for that information. Kindly note, Manduka can not recommend any home remedies to clean your mat. As we have not tested them and over time they could do damage to your mat. For the PRO mat we recommend our Mat Wash & Refresh, or a damp cloth with water.

Thank you for sending the proof of purchase, Dicks is a third party seller. We are unable to do any returns or exchanges from third party sellers. We apologize for this, I would recommend reaching out to Dicks to see what their return/exchange policy is.

If you keeping storing and caring for your mat properly, I do not think the tear will get worse. The

We are happy to offer you coupon code for 10% off your next purchase on Manduka.com using the code -------.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was anyone else aware that they don't honor their lifetime guarantee from third party sellers? Also, I'm put off by the fact that they are suggesting that I caused a rip on the bottom of my mat by cleaning the top of my mat with heavily diluted vinegar? After buying their expensive mat and then devoting hours to try to remove the greasy film they leave on it from manufacturing, I then cannot clean my mat unless I buy their overpriced mat cleaner? This really seems like a shill for their mat cleaner. I can't imagine there are no other cleaners or "home remedies" they can possibly recommend for their mat. And this is obviously not what caused the tear anyway.

I'm really disappointed because I did spend so much time trying to remove the slippery film from my mat, using salt treatments as Manduka recommends, and then having to spend a lot of time vacuuming up salt with my cheap vacuum. The mat finally felt sticky, and I was finally happy with it before noticing this tear. I wasn't even sure I wanted Manduka to replace the mat because of this, but I wanted to see what they had to say about it. I'm just really put off by the company now, and their claim of a "lifetime guarantee."

    Yoga w Apple Watch

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 03:30 PM PST

I'm on the fence on getting an Apple Watch for various reasons, but if it has some great features to use with my practice it would push me into it. Any apps that do practices through the watch as well as tracking? Any insight is appreciated!

EDIT: I'm on the fence, not in it

Anyone with "real" experience on Nada Yoga?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 03:15 PM PST

The description of it that I read in "Nada Yoga and the Way of Inner Vigilance) says that it resembles the noise of the ocean and it gets louder and higher in pitch as one develops a connection with oneself.

To my knowledge, I never heard the noise of the ocean in my head, but, sometimes, usually when I am about to sleep or have just woken up, I do hear a very loud and high pitch sound. I live with a constant tinnitus, so I also wonder if it's not that.

It is much like my tinnitus, but much much louder. When I hear it, It feels overwhelming and like I could pass out any time. It's not a very good experience. Still, the author describes it as something so beautiful and positive that once again, I don't know if Nada is what I hear.

    I appreciate any help.

    Warrior hip pain

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 11:47 AM PST

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what you did, if anything, to help relieve the pain. I have always had problems with Warrior poses, specifically a pinching/sharp pain in my hip on the side with the straight leg. I have really tight hips (working on that every day!) and still I have this pinching pain. I really feel it if I go from Warrior to this pose(sorry, don't know the name). Obviously if it hurts, don't do it, but I'd really like to do this pose pain-free if possible. Would love to hear advice or experience if you have some to share! Thank you :)

    Genu valgum and yoga

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:46 AM PST

I was diagnosed genu valgum like ten years ago. I underwent surgery to succesfully correct it. Still, my legs are prone to hyperextension, and I notice that I feel a little discomfort when I execute poses that require my legs to be extended (f.e. Uttanasana, Adho Mukha). I try to do it with my knees slightly bent, but I'm curious if I will be able to do it properly some day.

    Yoga for Tennis/Fencing

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 10:26 AM PST

    Hello,

I've done yoga on and off for the last decade and enjoyed it. As I get older and want to keep playing explosive sports, I'd like to make it more of a practice rather than a series of one offs. I know there are a lot of recommended routines, but it's hard to tell what would be most helpful. Is there a particular style/series that would be good for explosive leg movements/balance?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Every time I practice chin mudra during meditation I feel immediately anxious and overwhelmed.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 05:27 AM PST

It has happened ever since I started practicing yoga and I have always brushed it off and ended up just resting my palms face down on my thighs. Within 10 seconds into a chin mudra I have a sudden feeling of anxiety, my breathing starts to quicken and I end up feeling overwhelmed for the rest of the day. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Thank you x

    Are the Positions really necessary?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 02:57 PM PST

I feel like yoga could be achieved just by mind(no physical movement) because what yoga does is that it doesn't effect your physical appearance or give physical benefit but instead it tackles the mind, relaxes the person, controlling the breath, allowing a relaxation allowing circulation. All can be done just by sitting down and relax, focus, reflex on yourself. All those positions are to distract you into focusing but is not necessary

    Possible hamstring injury?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 05:06 AM PST

Back at the start of quarantine, I set a personal goal to reach Hanumanasana, aka the splits. However, I just downloaded an exercise app with daily workouts to work up to the splits. I think I may have over done it, because since then I've had a worsening pain at the back of my left hip. It's not joint pain, or muscle pain, it feels like it's the point where the top of my hamstring attaches to the pelvis.

Has anyone experienced this before, and has any advice? Is it just rest? Are there strengthening exercises? Or am I just stuck this way?
