    Yoga: Sobbing on the mat

    Yoga: Sobbing on the mat

    Sobbing on the mat

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:17 PM PST

I keep having these really intense emotions of utter release from all of the awful things I've been holding on to or most recently tonight this feeling of radical self love that I think I've only ever felt a few other times in my life. I'm literally playing footsy between my own feet during lying butterfly, crying and hugging myself. I love yoga. That is all.

Happy Baby kinda hurts, what am I doing wrong?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:23 AM PST

In this pose I get discomfort right where my leg meets my body. Not inner thigh, but in the front where it forms the V of your crotch. It doesn't feel like muscle stretching. It almost feels like the bones are grinding on each other. I've been trying to pull my legs closer into my body and not letting them fall down to the side but none of this seems right. This is hard to describe but any help?

    Alo Moves Home Practice

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:02 PM PST

So I started my yoga practice in July doing "Yoga With Adrienne" five days a week (God Bless Her) by September I had advance to the point that her classes weren't challenging enough anymore and so I subscribed to a year of Alo Moves after their free trial. I found their "beginner" classes about the same as YWA, but their next level up "moderate" classes to be impossible for my fledgling practice! Is there a middle ground someone could recommend? Advanced Beginner ha ha Edited to Add- I did see the amazing list of online yoga resources, but I would love some advice rather than Goldilocks-ing my way through 100 links :)

    Self Compassion Practice

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:25 PM PST

How are you doing? Really, how are you doing? Take a minute to think about it. The world demands that a certain face or personality of ours shows up every day. Sometimes it can be difficult to honour our struggles or emotions while still showing up for everything else. Here is a very short practice to allow yourself to check in and nurture your emotions. Find your breath and sit with it for maybe 2-3 rounds of breath. Bring to mind a situation that is causing you stress. Notice if you can sense the stress and emotional discomfort in your body. 1-Now say to yourself "This is a moment of suffering." My favourite way to say this "This sucks. This really f*****g sucks" This is mindfulness. This is being mindful of exactly what is. 2-Now say to yourself "Suffering is a part of life." My favourite way to say this "Suffering is natural. Everyone suffers." 3-Now say "May I be kind to myself in this moment of suffering." I like to check in to see what it is I really feel I need to hear in this moment. Do I need to be patient? Or strong? Or simply accept myself or the situation for exactly the way it is? I like to place my palms over my heart here. I like to notice the gentle touch against my chest and the warmth of my hands over my heart. This is comforting to me. I invite you to try a comforting gesture just for you. This short little practice can be done anytime you find a minute. Try it out and let me know how it goes! ♥ ♥ ♥

Would I benefit from a short yin session?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 03:11 PM PST

Namaste folks. I used to love yin yoga and would regularly put in an hour three to four times a week however my work schedule has been completely slammed of late and that feels like so long ago.

Would I benefit from a short twenty minute session or is that just too short for yin? I use the DownDog app and used to love my yin time so much. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

How to reduce wrist stress in poses?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:25 PM PST

    Hey everyone!

I've been occasionally doing yoga on and off for years, and I'm finally going to do it more often now.

But I have extremely weak arms/wrists/hands. I currently physically cannot grip through my fingers to reduce stress on the wrist when I'm in downward dog, I'm just too stiff and weak for it. I can try to but it doesn't seem to change anything and I have to focus really hard to be able to do it.

How do you do poses on hands/knees/etc without wrecking your wrists? Any suggestions on how to get better at it?

    Thanks!

    30 day yoga journey

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:05 AM PST

I just started a 30 day yoga challenge and I'm finding my shoulders really sore and uncomfortable when doing downward dog. Would this be due to my posture being off? I have done yoga quite a few times before so I'm not a complete newbie but I don't find the downward dog position to be relaxing at all as it just causes me a lot of weird discomfort. Just trying to figure out if this is normal for being a beginner or if I need to fix something in my posture.

    Yoga + endometriosis

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:43 AM PST

So I was recently diagnosed with (suspected) endometriosis. Over the past few weeks it's become more and more difficult to keep up with my regular yoga practice. I did a class yesterday and while it felt good in the moment, I'm feeling pain in my hips and lower back like a flare up.

I'm wondering if anyone else with endo has modified their practice to accommodate for their endo pain/flare ups? Like poses you avoid?

    Injury Prone - Seeking Advice

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:21 PM PST

Hey guys, hope everyone's staying safe and having a good evening. I've recently decided I want to try to learn yoga during this lockdown. (never done a single session) and I was hoping to receive some advice. Pre-COVID my primary form of exercise was lifting weights and playing basketball but I've had primarily neck/upper back/trap pain, as well as occasional knee and lower back pain that's forced me to stop because of the risk of injury. I've been seeing my chiropractor every two weeks for a few months now to get adjustments and learn exercises that are supposed to alleviate the pressure that I'm putting on these regions by utilizing my core and correcting bad movement patterns. Even though I've been very dedicated the progress has been slow and my core feels weak and I think that yoga would be a good way to supplement these exercises as well as increase my flexibility and prevent future injuries. I'm 25 and this has been very frustrating, I want to be able to work out the way that I used and be able to sustain that, I also don't want to have serious neck/back/knee issues as I get older. I've been doing some research and checked out different YouTube channels, the main one I've seen is Adriene and that seems like a good place to start but I just wanted to get some community feedback on my specific situation. My neck/trap/shoulder pain is the primary issue I deal with and I wouldn't want to make that any worse by going too hard. I'm also hoping to be able to lift weights and play sports more often. Do you guys think yoga would help me with this? I've heard Yin Yoga and Gentle Yoga would be good starting points as well. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

[COMP] I completely overuse tree pose. I never know how to pose for pictures, so I always resort to awkward smiles and then tree pose because it’s fairly easy for me to hold. Now I have a collection of pictures of me doing tree pose all over the place. These are just the ones from this summer

    Yoga in Nola

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:44 PM PST

Hi! I'm a yoga teacher who's currently in FL finishing my college degree this semester. It'll take a little time before I am completely sure, but I am thinking about moving to Nola at some point after graduation. I visit a decent amount and I think it'd be good to check out some studios there and start to potentially find a place in the community. My current city is definitely smaller, and so getting involved in the yoga community was pretty simple and straightforward, considering the community isn't super large. I could imagine due to city sizes it'd be a bit different in Nola, and you have to do some hunting to figure out where you fit in, because I imagine there's not a small enough community that everyone would know everyone? But anyway, I teach Power, Vinyasa, Hot (vinyasa), (Basic introductory) Ashtanga (to prevent being attacked by ashtanga police I'll say ashtanga-based: I am not technically certified to teach ashtanga), slow/gentle/beginner, yin, and Nidra. Anyone have any recommendations on places to check out? Even if I don't get a job teaching immediately obviously, it'd be nice to find a "home away from home" for my practice. Places that specialize in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and/or Power yoga are what I'm mainly interested in. Thanks y'all! Namaste ☺️

Why Is Yoga So Hard For Me?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:55 PM PST

I'm a fairly fit, strong person who works out multiple times a week, but nothing leaves me as utterly exhausted as yoga does. I also have a dance background and am fairly flexible, so I honestly don't know what's going on. I'm trying to like yoga so much because ultimately, I do feel better after I'm done with a workout, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong during the workout to make me hate it this much. Is there a separate mindset I need to get into do to yoga specifically? Am I just being too hard on myself? Am I too tense or going too fast because I'm treating it like a normal workout? Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Do these stats seem likely to you? Because I have a feeling there's no way my burnt calories for a 24 minute session can be that high.

Will a broken tailbone make folds more difficult?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:43 AM PST

I broke my tailbone about a year ago. It's healed in a weird way so doing poses like boat pose can be pretty difficult. But I can't get a deep fold in forward folding positions. I've been doing yoga for over a year now. I've become pretty flexible and can do intermediate level videos quite well. But my forward folds are very weak. If it's not my tailbone, what can I do to deepen my folds? Am I doing something wrong? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It's been three months I have been regular in yoga. But since last month I observed that I feel pain in my knee while doing poses Warrior 1, 2 , revolved chair pose or anything that involves bending the knees and resting the arm on the knee. Is it normal?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 11:29 PM PST

PS. The pain is not severe. I can still hold on to the pose. I feel pain only when I am in the pose...the pose doesn't stay after practice
