    Form Check Friday! 2020-12-11 @ /r/Flexibility

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 10:05 PM PST

Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

My left leg is stiff like a rod, help me

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 10:25 PM PST

Hi folks, amongst other issues of dealing with bilateral dull pain in limbs, my left leg is super stiff (below the back of the knee and back of the hamstring) to the point where I cannot even forward bend, it causes pain on my hip joints as-well and i can't even walk properly and limp around, what can i do about it? Any exercises or treatments you would recommend? It is making my life hell :(

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:06 PM PST

so im a 19 year old university student and for once I wanted to do something healthy for my body. I'm kind of healthy-ish so I started jogging about 3 weeks ago and i'm still constant in it. It is a fun thing and i think my everyday life is much better now but what other thing that I noticed is that I am not flexible like at all and I sit like 12 hours a day in front of computer so back pain sometimes while running so I want to start yoga and specifically want to do splits if I can do splits ill obviously be flexible too and i've heard they are really good for the back and so much more that you dont get back pain while in old age if you do yoga anyway I want to ask for your help give me few tips i'm a beginner like dont even know the abc of yoga ive been trying to do it for the past 3 days but am not sure if im doing it right so I would be really grateful if someone tells me how to do my splits or maybe a youtube channel that is best for this kind of stuff thank you. ps pardon me if you find my text weird english is not my native language

Questions for people who used to have difficulty gaining flexibility

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 06:38 PM PST

Usually one of two things is happening on my flexibility journey:

    1. I'm doing light stretches each day/making progress that is extremely slow
    2. I get frustrated and try to do more stretches in one day, end up sore the next few days, can't stretch as much for a bit, lose alot of my gains

I'm trying to think if I should be doing anything differently, what might you try?

    Squat/plie help?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 06:18 AM PST

It's so ridiculous high, that doesn't even looks like a squat or plie. I kind of know I need to work on my thighs and hamstrings but how exactly? Maybe I'm wrong, so please tell me how to get a deeper plie/squat. I'd love to be able to do the asian squat too, all my friends can naturally...

Any tips will be appreciated, thank you!

    Beginner Sharing Flexibility Plan

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 05:32 PM PST

Hey all! I've always been interested in flexibility but have been very inactive and out of shape. I think I underestimated previously how important being generally active and strong affects flexibility.

I since being into weightlifting and running for two or three months have improved my general physical abilities. I also had a breakthrough today. I realized that in the past I would vaguely want to be flexible I would follow leg/arm flexibility videos without a goal in mind. I would get bored and quit. Here is my new approach to get myself into a more intermediate level.

First, I will do a daily mobility video on days I don't focus on stretching.

A number of times a week or so I will do dedicated stretching practice. I am focusing on 4 moves. Front splits, middle splits, pike, and my bridge. I have one YouTube video targeting each and will do each of these videos once a week + cycling through 3 sets of these moves a number of times a week.

I've never "gotten" these basic moves ever, and think this will help me achieve this.

I'm thinking my long term goal is to do advanced yoga and contortion. Before I think about those, I need to get my baseline skills. Does anyone else have some additional basics I have or critiques of anything I've said?
