Wrapping up 30 days of yoga with Adriene in 6 days - what next?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 04:59 PM PST

I can't believe I have done something consistently for 24 days in a row. At first, I dreaded the days that were longer than 15 mins and now I love the longer ones and they feel almost effortless.

I am curious where I should go from here. I'd like to continue with a daily home practice of 20-40 mins a day max (for now.) I did subscribe to Alo Moves but haven't done any of the classes yet. I kind of want to continue with Adriene and just do Alo yin classes as I'm called to do yin.

I am wrapping up the original 2015 30 days with Adriene and curious if her other 30 day series increase in difficulty all, or which one I should proceed with next? Or should I do something else? I don't currently feel like this series is "too easy" and it's definitely not "too hard" (anymore!) but I'd be up for challenging myself a tad.

    Any thoughts/experience is greatly appreciated.

Yoga ig accounts: Inspiration or stress?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 11:20 AM PST

Hi all. I have been doing yoga for some time now and I started following many Instagram accounts in order to get inspiration. However, lately I get much stressed when watching such accounts as I feel I'm so far away from what I admire...

I know that progress takes time and I should focus on my own progress, but I am wondering if others are facing same kind of negative thoughts. How do you cope with them?

    Mosquitobites while doing yoga

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:39 PM PST

    Hi friends,

This may sound silly, but I'm currently facing a challenge with mosquitoes. I live in a tropical country and I have A LOT of mosquitoes in my home that I can't get rid of. (I've tried the sprays, candles etc., but life here just includes feisty mosquitoes) I also don't have air conditioning, which I've noticed slows them down a bit.

I have a hard time fully immersing in my practie because I keep getting bitten. Just now I tried a 3 minute Shavasana and I had to interrupt every 10 seconds because of the mosquitoes. Sometimes I try to acknowledge the pain and let it pass, but the spot gets painful and itchy and it's very unpleasant to try and practice while you're being pricked almost constantly and end up itchy all over.

Does any of you have a similar experience and what have you done to overcome this hurdle?

    Perpetually tight muscles

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:32 PM PST

I've been doing yoga for about 1 year now. I have only been doing it a few times a week, however; at one point I was doing it almost everyday. My hamstrings and overall muscles are just like steel cables that do not really stretch that much. I have improved and actually can touch my toes now, but overall, my flexibility isn't really there.

I also have fast tricep and shoulder fatigue when I do downward dog, I can just feel the burning and fatigue set in after 2 or 3 downward dogs. I think that I am putting too much weight on my upper body and shoulders trying to straighten my legs on the downward dog.

Any suggestions or should I just do yoga and adapt to these limitations ? I have now started bending my knees during downward dog which helps a bit.

    Fibular subluxation

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:23 PM PST

I've been relatively lucky in avoiding injuries when it came to yoga, so this one surprised me. I was doing a longer practice (90 minutes) last week and it focused on a lot of opening postures. During a butterfly pose, I started to get and uncomfortable feeling on the lateral side of my proximal lower leg that quickly shifted into a sharp pain, and then bounced back with a loud thunk (not pop) when I shifted out of the position. I have chronically tight hamstrings, so my rectus femoris does a good job of keeping my fibular head stable. At this point I'm concerned about returning to yoga to avoid reinjuring this. Has anyone had this happen to them before, and if so, what did you do to help feel more confident in not having it happen again.

The day has come - Complicated techniques

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 03:34 AM PST

So I decided to move my yoga level to beginner 2 on Down Dog a couple of days ago and I feel I'm making soooo much progress. Better breathing, more fluid flow, more harmonic with my body and mind. my balance is slowly getting better but its still hard. Then comes complicated techniques.

The complicated ones don't come in every session just here and there. the biggest issue I'm facing though is the complicated techniques such as Eagle Pose. I can't for the life of me wrap my legs and arms between each other and I just end up looking so weird for 10 seconds before going back to Tadasana.

How do I get out of this mental wall whenever they happen and continue to focus on my session and improving more?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:27 AM PST

I searched and didn't get any results for this set.

Alo currently has their "Essential Set" on sale for $175.

    It includes:

    "Magic" Warrior Mat

    2 x Uplifting Blocks

    No-Slip Towel

    Strap

    https://www.aloyoga.com/products/essential-set?color=Black

Is that a good deal for a full starter set?

    Thank you!

    yoga king pigeon help

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:47 AM PST

I can sit in pigeon pose comfortably on both sides, although I am unsure it if I should be able to get more flat to the ground. From pictures it looks like most people have a small gap.

When I try and raise my back leg for king pigeon, my whole body raises up. I can't seem to keep my body down while I bend that leg, it is like a lever. Unfortunately my back knee really doesn't appreciate the angle it so I can't hold it for long, since I am then balancing on that knee.

I can do full split on both sides, but I am quite far away from middle split.

Is this normal? Any tips for improving?
