[COMP] it took me 2.5 years, 5 trainings, consistent core work and a lot of shoulder strengthening/opening to get here, but I've finally got pincha mayurasana in my bag of tricks. Well worth the effort. Next goal is for lolasana/floating forward and back, and so begins another 3+ years of work!

    most complete backbend asana

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 02:52 PM PST

Hi, I've always considered urdva dhanurasana (wheel pose) as the most complete backbend since it involves all the area associated with backbends (hip flexors, chest, etc..) and is a (very) active pose. Any backbend experts out there that could suggest poses they consider effective?

    Thx

Has anyone here heard of Karin Dimitrovova? I'm thinking of purchasing her program.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 03:34 PM PST

As the title says, Karin Dimitrovova has an advanced back bends and splits routine that I was thinking of purchasing it. From the clips on her website it looks like routines have some cool stretches, shows handstand variations etc. Has anyone here heard of her or purchased her program?

Common ways a beginner can mess up their back?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 06:44 AM PST

My back hurts and I think I realized what my issue is. I follow the yoga with Adrienne videos and she often reminds you to sit up and check your alignment ect. I think I may be over aligning myself if that makes sense? I've been consciously trying to correct it but now I'm curious what other ways you can end up hurting your body as a beginner so I can avoid them.

Beginner question: what's a simple position that I can keep for a long time

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 10:47 AM PST

As I said in the title, I'm a beginner.

I know that the best thing would be an actual class, but at the moment it's not really possible.

I tried using online videos, but as the teacher goes on, I struggle to watch the screen while I'm in a position to understand what position I have to do next, like my face is watching down and I hear the teacher saying that we're passing to something else, so I have to watch the screen while still on the floor, not standing up, and that kinda hurts my neck.

I was hoping there was a position I could keep for a short or long period of time that could help me to start, like "Plow position for 2 to 10 minutes or even more" (I don't know how hard it is, it's just an example).

I was hoping, between the other things, to improve the flexibility of my back and my legs (hopefully I'll do a split before the end of 2021) and fix my forward neck posture at least a little.

TL:DR What position can a beginner keep for 2-10 minutes to improve their flexibility and maybe get a little help for his forward neck posture ? What other long-to-keep position would you suggest ?

Thanks in advance and good day/night.

How to deal with wrist strain?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 02:15 AM PST

I recently injured my wrist (seems like a strain) from excessive practice of crow pose and planking postures. It now hurts to plank/bend my wrist backwards and put weight on it, and it hurts to do household tasks like unscrewing caps, washing dishes, etc. as well. I have been resting and wearing a brace for almost a week, icing a few times a day, and doing light stretching, but I feel like there's no improvement. At the same time I feel like I'm going crazy from not being able to do my usual yoga routine and losing progress while I rest!!

How have other yogis dealt with wrist injuries in the past? Was there anything that worked for you or anything you'd recommend to get healing faster?

    Favorite cork/rubber mats?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 04:09 AM PST

Hey guys, what are your favorite cork, rubber or other "natural" mats (e.g. jute)?

I'm on the hunt for something durable, grippy and thin-ish (or a couple of those since all 3 might be a tall order), so I'd love to hear about mats you have personal experience with.

What physical and/or mental changes did you notice after regular daily practice?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 07:12 AM PST

People who do shirshasana regularly, how are your vices? Do you notice a reduced need for alcohol and smoking?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2020 06:08 AM PST

Lurking here since a while . I was curious if dopamine is naturally raised doing this aasana? I know a guy who is pro at headstands (M36) He has been doing headstands since 13 years and he smokes and drinks (very occasionally) he was very addicted to it before getting into yoga in his early 20's.

How does yoga change any of such vices?
