Flexibility games for my acro students?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:46 PM PST

Hi! Not sure if this belongs here but my names Chloey and I'm the Acro gymnastics coach my my local gymnastics training center. Right now I'm having a hard time getting my students (7 - 12years) interested in stretching and becoming more flexible. The older ones have no problem with it but the younger ones get bored with it very quickly. The lack of flexibility some of them have are preventing them from being able to do certain skills and I can see they're getting quite frustrated. So is there any games that I might be able to play with them in order to get them more engaged with flexibility? Thanks!

    I am addicted to stretching

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 01:59 PM PST

Hi everyone, I'm 20 and I have a dillema with flexibility. I think I am addicted to and a little obsessed with stretching. I stretch every morning, afternoon (my longest session) and before bed (exept for some really sore days, when I rest). I'm already quite flexible (I have my three oversplits 😊). I like stretching; however, I most enjoy techniques that are said to be unhealthy. I always stretch playing with my border of pain, bouncing to surpass it, holding stretches for long and using weights to stay in the pain zone (sometimes I get to a point of getting teary eyes from the "pain" of long intense stretches 😅). It is very uncomfortable even painful, yet I feel so good at the same time especially after an intense session I feel glorious and proud😁 a lot more compared to doing gentle stretching. I am not by any means trying to "punish"my body. I take good care and take my time to warmup well, do some exercize, stretch progresively, do cooldown stretches, sometimes have a relaxing bath and use post stretching creme for sore muscles.

In short, my preparation to stretching is quite gentle; however, my intense stretching can be pretty rough when I think about it. I did strain my hamstrings a few times and to be honest I'd have prefered not to. Do/Did you live a similar experience or do you have tips on how to limit rough stretching and still maintain the same pleasure of doing it?

That summarized my experience quite a bit. I could explain in more detail in another post and thanks for responses 😉

How long did it take to see a change?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 11:34 AM PST

I havent even started my flexibility journey yet. Although i have hypermobilty pretty bad, I used to do trapeze yet eventually my muscles and joints completely seized up and i havent had very good movement in about ten years now my hip flexors are horrendous i cant even do a pike anymore.

How did everyone start and maintain motivation as i need to get fit this year for personal reasons.

Warm-ups for Middle Splits to avoid pulling groin again

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:22 AM PST

Last year, I was on a gymnastics team. I have the splits on both my left and right leg, and was doing some oversplit when I was on the team. At the same time, when we had to do middle splits, my left leg felt fine, but my right leg felt like something had popped, and there was juice internally or something. It was painful but I could still walk. They didn't tell me what I could do to help it, only expected me to be better at my middle splits. This year I'm going to try-out for my school's dance team, but I need to have my middle splits. Any warm-ups you guys do before that help you to safely do the middle splits?

Broken blood vessels during split stretches?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:18 AM PST

Ive been practice the splits for a few months now and have been noticing that my inner legs (beginning from thighs down to ankles) have red specs on them.

It looks like the broken blood vessels you'd get from vomiting violently for a long time.

Is this normal? Am i pushing my body too hard? I physically feel fine. Just worried that pushing my skin too far?

Does that make sense ?? Haha

And fyi im practicing both side splits and middle.

    Thank you!
