I'm flexible but I can't do the splits :( What am I doing wrong? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:43 PM PST I'm sorry if this was already asked/discussed but I searched and didn't find any post specific to this. If it has been, I'd really appreciate the link. For background, I have been able to comfortably split when I was younger and did ballet but when I stopped 6 years ago my splits slowly disappeared and I'm trying to get them back. I'm not understanding why I can't get my center and front splits. Based on other stretches and exercises I still have very flexible hamstrings, hips, and groin muscles, and the other stretches I can do with ease. I can sit in a butterfly/bound ankle pose with my knees and the outer edge of my feet flat with no issue. My hips and knees are flush against the floor in the frog split, and my palms are flat against the floor behind my ankles when I fold in half standing. But a split? It feels like I'm trying to rip my body in half. I am 5'6 and I'm still about 12 inches off the ground when I used to literally drop into the splits like that was a normal thing humans did. Trying to sit in the splits now hurts so much and I don't understand how if I am so flexible otherwise, why I can't do a simple split? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:27 PM PST I know I shouldn't rely on this sub for medical advice, but just for anecdotal purposes, has anyone had any lingering hip issues from splits stretching? For the last couple days my left hip has been fairly painful when trying to externally rotate or flex backward (stretching the flexors). Walking is mostly pain free but stretching the legs now is right out. Most concerning is that it feels like it's in the joint. It almost feels like it does when it needs to 'pop' like it sometimes does when working on my middle or straddle splits and then it feels fine but much much more so. Thoughts? I figure best case scenario I'll just back completely off of any leg stretching until it feels better and try not to further aggravate it. 🤷♂️ [link] [comments]
Critique my flexibility routine Posted: 30 Jan 2021 05:51 PM PST I'm a newish beginner, but the standard recommended routine is too easy for me in some places but very hard in others, so I adapted it. I'm doing Tom Merrick's Full Body Flexibility Routine 5x a week and his beginner hamstring routine x2 a week. I also made my own routine by combining some I found with a few extra stretches. My goal is to touch my toes and do the front splits, and get rid of some painful tension in my right shoulder/neck. I do this everyday, and do youtube video workouts for 30 minutes a day as well. I'd go to the gym to get some strength training, but with Covid I can't. Here's my routine. Pigeon Pose - 60 seconds Low Lunge - 60 seconds Single-Legged Downward Dog - 60 seconds Supine Straight Leg Hamstring Stretch with Strap - 4 sets of 60 seconds Lying Twists - 60 seconds Standing Splits - 60 seconds Wall Calf Stretch - 60 seconds Hold Front Splits - 4 minutes per side Tricep Stretch - 30 seconds per arm Doorway Pectoral Stretch - 3 sets of 30 seconds Spine Backbend - 3 sets of 30 seconds Rear hand clasp - 30 seconds per side Pancake - 60 seconds Butterfly - 60 seconds Basic Bridge - 60 seconds I'd like some advice on what to add/drop, or increase the time of anything. I'm having issues because I'm very flexible in some areas, but I hold a lot of tension in my neck so I keep struggling to do more basic stuff as well. I'm also 16 if that changes anything. Anybody have any experience with The Movement Journey? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:08 PM PST I've been trying to get into flexibility but have a problem with creating a program and sticking to it. I came across this site that has guided routines. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with it or knows of somebody who has tried it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Reaching to touch my toes feels uncomfortable. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:09 PM PST THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL ADVICE QUESTION. I do not have any injuries related to my legs. I have been stretching more in the past few weeks. I always sit on the floor and can reach one leg at a time to stretch. But when I try to touch my toes, I feel a weird pain/sensation in my calves. It feels nothing like when I do other stretches. Could there be a problem with my form, pelvis positioning, or something else? [link] [comments]
Hamstring curling, muscle bunches up? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:25 PM PST Alright, so, lay on your tummy, curl your leg so your foot tries to touch your bottom. For me, when I do it, it's like the hamstring muscle bunches up, and cramps a ton! Why? What can I do? Is this normal? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jan 2021 09:23 AM PST I don't feel any stiffness or soreness, rather stretching my lower and upper back will cause shooting pains and some numbness, tingliness or burning sensation around my back and rib cage area. I haven't done much exercise these past months due to a recurring issue with my hips and lower back, so I decided to take a break from high impact stuff like running, training at the bars and martial arts. But now when I try to restart with low impact streching and mobility to loosen myself up I feel these odd pangs of pain I didn't have a year ago with my training routine. I'm talking basic stuff like cat cows, warrior pose, cobra, etc. [link] [comments] |
