- Meditation is to brain what reboot is to a computer. Our minds are jam-packed with all kinds of thoughts throughout the day. And just like a computer needs free space to work efficiently or it will hang, our minds too need a break to make some more space for it to work profoundly.

Just completed 7 months of meditation! Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:39 PM PST I started meditating in the thick of covid. It's treated me very well so far. I came into it very skeptical as I did not believe that something that seemed so simple (in theory, but not in practise) could be so effective. I have a long way to go for sure, but for those teetering on the edge about it, honestly just try it and be open minded. Hope the very best for everyone!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 11:45 PM PST I go back and forth with being able to meditate (started for a DBT therapy group and have some limited success with guided options.) today I gave it a go to just put on a timer and some wave noise so I could focus on just the breathing, and I was able to meditate for almost ten minutes! Whenever A thought would come in I would just say "oh hi" (the picturing it as a cloud has never been useful for me). Not a habit yet, but just feeling excited that it went well. Any pointers for when you feel light headed after meditating? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:06 PM PST Hello all! I have been practicing meditation on and off for about a year, and have stuck to a 10 minute per day minimum for the past month. The results have been fantastic. Some days I don't have much time and don't really want to, quite frankly, but I hold myself to it and it always leaves me feeling rewarded. I am currently focusing on mindfulness practice. That being said, last week I saw a candle in my meditation room and thought huh, that would probably be a good addition. So I began lighting that and placing it at eye level in front of me during my meditation. Very highly recommend it. Whether my eyes are open or closed, I can see the flame of the candle dancing and flickering, and it locks me in to this present moment for which the candle flame always lives. The past is gone in a second, and although it may come back to that same place, it will always be different. The future of the flame, like life, is uncertain and unpredictable. Thus leading us to only be able to see the current moment for what it is, and I love that. [link] [comments] |

How do you track your progress? Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:10 AM PST Do you track it by maintaining a flow? The longer you remain in the "flow" the more you are progressing? Is it all just about maintaining that flow, that stillness & calmness? Being present in the moment and just being there without distracted? And just feeling light & crisp! How does one know if they are Going in the right direction? [link] [comments] |

When u catch yourself dialoguing with the thoughts, what do you do? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:50 PM PST Do you bring your focus back to the breath? if you do that every time there's thoughts, isn't that mentally draining? Or... [link] [comments] |
Does time of the day affect your meditation, like doing it morning or night or it is the same ? Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:14 PM PST |
Posted: 30 Jan 2021 11:47 PM PST I had been practicing meditation through an app. And now I'm doing it by myself. The thing is I have asthma and have quite difficulty in breathing. when i sit down to mediate I focus on my breathing, even if i am not doing breathing focused meditation. So the thing is I become conscious of my breathing and most of the time my nose is blocked or i start to sneeze or i start to cough. What should I do to not be distracted during meditation? Smelling stuff that aren't there after meditation Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:50 AM PST I've been practicing meditation again since the beginning of the year. I used to do it a lot as a teen but I stopped, unfortunately. At first it was hard to concentrate on "just being", although it used to come easily to me. But then I started do get the hang of it again. two weeks ago, I was in bed, almost asleep after meditation, when I suddenly felt the smell of something burnt. I had a fire in my home a few years ago it immediately reminded me of that. I got up, checked everything, and realized there was nothing burning. I was puzzled but eventually fell asleep. But last night, the same thing happened only this time I was smelling a lot of different things. It began with a strong cat feces smell which got me to expel the cat from the bedroom. Poor baby hadn't done anything. Then I felt the smell of perfume. Very nice, citric, cozy perfume I had never felt in my life. And then other smells, all so amazing, which kinda hugged me into sleep. Has this happened to you? Is there an explanation? [link] [comments] |
The magic happens when you go into pure feeling beyond thoughts... Posted: 30 Jan 2021 11:08 PM PST I tend to view Meditation as simply going within.. a way of flipping our reality from attention of Physical to mental to spiritual. Edgar Cayce calls it attuning the Physical to your mental and spiritual source. Its basically going from the finite to the infinite and drawing from it because life has its inception in the infinite... But besides all of that talk🦜 There is a process to go beyond thought it includes:
From here you are in pure feeling. You are beyond thought. Thoughts arise from feeling out of nowhere. You simply observe them. Control them. Direct them. [link] [comments] |
My eye lids twitch uncontrollable when I meditate Posted: 30 Jan 2021 09:27 PM PST For some reason every time I meditate and begin to sink into my head my eye lids twitch uncontrollable bringing me back im wondering is their an explanation for this? [link] [comments] |
For those practicing breathing meditation Posted: 30 Jan 2021 06:41 AM PST Just a little method I found useful to me while practicing my mindfulness of breathing meditation - when a thought arises, instead of completely discarding it and focusing attention back on the breath, ask your yourself, "is this useful?", 98% of the time it's not, and if I genuinely think it is, I resolve some of the lingering problems in my existence in a really skillful manner. I'd recommend this to meditators who have been practicing for some time. [link] [comments] |
Is desire for internal peace and a silent mind bad. Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:31 PM PST Usually when I meditate I try to not seek enlightenment or whatever, it would be cool nevertheless. Anyhow, I've had glimpses were my mind is as calm as the sunset, and my whole body is relaxed and cool as a cucumber. I've been noticing lately that my thoughts are a fucking nag and repetitive, stealing most of my joy. Always self conscious, always on guard, always unstable and overly emotional. In those glimpses everything is like ecstacy. It's like a spotlight of peace. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:25 AM PST My roommate used to meditate when he was younger he was raised in a household where his father taught him and his brother to meditate on the daily. When I told him what I was doing and the thoughts that came into my head which I was observing he insisted I was doing it wrong and that I shouldn't have any thoughts what so ever. He also told me that it wasn't going to work if I was laying down and then said I was just sleeping. So id like everyone's opinion on this. Honestly it's a little bit discouraging and it's really been getting in my head. (I'm not sleeping btw I don't sleep, infact I come out of it very well rested and don't feel like I'm drifting into sleep what do ever) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:54 AM PST Hey there! I've been reading lots of spiritual books lately and one amongst them are 'Think like a monk' and the another was 'The monk who sold his Ferrari' . I have to admit this that I'm deeply moved and meditation is the key to know myself more. Although I do meditation, I somehow think how it's approached by others. I really don't know the different types in meditation other than feeling my breath and calming myself. What are the other types and please be helpful to me by puttin any reference links so that I can go through and incorporate them into my life. Appreciate your time for me. Deeply grateful to meet you all. Be merry. [link] [comments] |
Expanding my view of “meditation” Posted: 30 Jan 2021 08:16 PM PST I started with the Waking Up app last year and loved it. Admittedly, I fell out of practice for a while. I've been working my way back in recently. The thing I'm trying to do is expand my definition of what it means to meditate. I still meditate with the app, but now I also look for other situations where my mind can be consumed with something other than my random, annoying thoughts.... 1. walking the dog 2. petting the dog 3. playing the guitar 4. listening to a podcast 5. listening to music These are all things that I would have previously struggled to stay "present" during. I guess listening to a podcast might not be considered an exercise in mindfulness to most, but it is to be. I'm really trying to be present with the speaker and not let my mind wander. I have a lot to learn, and I'm sure I have some misunderstandings regarding the practice of meditation, but relative to where I started, Im doing well. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:01 AM PST I realised today while meditating, that just as dance and singing are arts, i.e visual arts, there are internal arts. Meditation, introspection, ACT, mindfulness. I consider myself a student of the Internal arts. All my non meditative friends think I spend too much time alone, too much time "wasted" meditating, because they aren't experienced in the internal arts to recognise what we're doing and the benefits and enjoyment of such. Cool perspective thought I'd share :) [link] [comments] |
