YWA 30 days Breath 2021 : motivate yourself by knowing that you are not alone Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:18 AM PST Hi everyone, Every year I do the Yoga With Adrienne 30 days with my best friend and it is really helpful to know that you are not alone to do it. 2020 was a hard year for me. I couldn't do yoga as usual and my best friend couldn't neither. So for this year, I'm going back to the mat with YWA. And if you're going to do it too, you're not alone. I will do it knowing I'm not alone. [link] [comments] |
Anyone else disheartened by the lack of authentic yoga studios in the US? (rant) Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:02 PM PST I have gone though YTT but did it to further my practice rather than to teach. I still prefer being a student and going to the studio because I just don't challenge myself with my own practices. I have been to so so many yoga studios in my area over the past few years and they are all more like a workout class than actual yoga. Hip hop music about doing drugs blaring (I like hip hop and I like drugs but not while doing yoga) and no attention to mindfulness or ujjayi or letting the breath guide the movement. And all the flow classes seem to be very sped up to match the tempo of the music but then when using ujjayi or trying to have even breath its impossible. They seem to all be about burning calories and getting a good body or performing impressive asana. Kind of had to rant. I don't think they should be calling these classes yoga when yoga is so so so much more than asana. I think its kind of insulting to the practice. EDIT: I actually have found a studio I like its just 45 in away so I don't go [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jan 2021 05:07 PM PST Hi folks, I used to practice yoga regularly (five or six days a week) in conjunction with my weight lifting however two years ago I was in a bad car accident and was unable to continue with either practice. I am now getting closer and closer to being able to start practicing them again and am looking for advice to help ease my way into it. [link] [comments] |
Can I get some small yoga space inspo? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:37 PM PST Family of 5 in a small CA house - so no basement and garage is storage. Oh and it's covid so we're all home all the time. I'm still looking to create a small yoga space for myself, whether it's the corner of a bedroom or outside, or I candlelight my hallway when I'm ready to roll out my mat... who knows. Can you inspire me with pics of small spaces that you've turned into your teeny yoga retreat? [link] [comments] |
my knees hurt when doing certain poses Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:33 PM PST hi! i started yoga a few months ago as it has been recommended by my psychologist and orthopedic doctor. i have mild scoliosis and my doctor reassured me that i have no medical restrictions for physical exercise. i've already had progress as i can finally touch my toes on forward fold and do the camel touching my ankles (i never did before)! however, i've found that my knees have been hurting during some poses such as the warrior 2, peaceful warrior, extended side angle, and any variation of the chair pose. any tips would be helpful! Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:32 PM PST I don't think this question had been answered yet (sorry if it has) but I wanted to try doing yoga with my mom (just graduated HS, still live at home) but she doesn't understand the English videos so I'm trying to find someone who does yoga in Spanish for beginners. Any recommendations? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Any advice on a new yoga practice I can try to stop muscle spasms due to anxiety/stress? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 01:00 PM PST Hey everyone! I've been lucky enough to discover the joys of yoga back in the summer of 2020! Yin yoga has become a favourite of mine. It was doing a good job of getting all the knots and tension out of my body. But recently my knots have been getting worse due to depression and anxiety. Yin doesn't seem to be as effective. I still want to practice Yin yoga but is there anything else I could try? I particularly get incredibly tense in my shoulders, neck and back. At it's worst my shoulders spasm every now and again. Any advice would be so helpful! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:05 PM PST After 6 months of yoga I'm still really struggling in warrior 2 with burning pain between my shoulders/upper trapezius muscles. Often I have to drop my arms from the pain. I also struggle with any other pose that requires holding arms at or above shoulder height. Can anybody suggest pose(s) or methods to strengthen and improve this? [link] [comments] |

What specific muscles are being stretched with the front leg in pigeon pose? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 11:06 AM PST I know with the back leg you are stretching the hip flexors, but I can't figure out what muscles In the hip I'm feeling the stretch when I'm positioning the shin of my front leg parallel to the top edge of the mat. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Wlbow pain during swastikasana? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 01:11 PM PST My right elbow feels hyperextended when I am in swastikasana on my right side. Not sure how to prevent this since I don't get that feeling on the left side, so I can't really feel what I am doing wrong or how I can change the pose. Thoughts? Thanks! Edit: Ugh! Damn thumb typing!! Title should be "Elbow pain during swastikasana?" How embarrassing! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 12:24 PM PST Warrior 1 is easily one of the most difficult of the basic poses for me. Can someone walk me through the proper alignment and give me some tips? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Yoga - Beginner to Expert roadmap? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:18 AM PST Hey all, this isn't some New Years resolution of mine, more of just my desire to go deep into a new avenue. In the past I have picked a physical hobby and go from 0-100 just to see if its possible, I guess I'm an all or nothing kind of guy. A few years ago I was really into bodybuilding, and I went from skinny to buff and learned a ton about the practice and the "sport" but then my interests changed. Last year I wanted to be more "fit" so I stopped bodybuilding and decided I would train to run a marathon (after never running other than playing sports in my teens), and that was awesome! I ran a marathon and was able to check that off the list, but quickly started looking for new things to do. I've explored climbing, but COVID-19 has made doing that consistently quite challenging.. so it's something I will return to in the future. I've decided that I m gonna give Yoga a go, a really deep full effort go. I want to go from a total noob (only doing the odd restorative yoga class to supplement other training regiments) to doing 100% Yoga and becoming really really good at it. The problem is, unlike bodybuilding and marathon running where you can just google "How to run a marathon in 4 months from scratch" and find a perfectly descriptive training plan.. there doesn't seem much like this for Yoga. I need some sort of blueprint, something to guide me along my journey from noob to strong and knowledgable. I have found a few good 30 day follow along courses online, like this one from Breathe and Flow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVYrfp5xppk&list=PLBfRLLhSBb-AIDv1ThItM--JGiwCZfH8V&index=1 , but its pretty linear, and only 30 days in length. I guess my main question is, does anybody have a roadmap/blueprint of how one would go about doing this? I hope I didn't come off too arrogant, and I'm well aware this isn't going to be easy and take a lot of time and dedication. Just looking for some formal guidance as I am not only a noob in the physical aspect of Yoga but the knowledge aspect too :) Ps. I am planning on doing this all from my living room floor due to COVID-19 and restrictions, so this would have to be an online/youtube program/blueprint Thanks for any recommendations!
