Beginner here, I can't breath with my movements

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:18 PM PST

Hello thank you in advanced. I need a little advice or encouragement. I'm not very fit but I've always wanted to do yoga regularly. I've tried off and on but never kept it up for long. I'm trying again but I'm having some problems. Yoga With Adrien is really hard... I'm starting out with her 30 days of yoga again and I can't even finish Day 2. I don't understand how I'm supposed to move and breathe. Like its so fast! We'll be in a forward fold and then "inhale halfway up" but by the time I'm there she's already "exhale down again, walk the feet back, do some other stuff and downward dog". I can't breath like that. Other times I find a move takes so long to do I can't inhale or exhale for long enough so I end up holding my breath by accident just so I can keep the movement and breathing in sync. I'm really trying not to get discouraged but it's so hard when my problem is something as easy as breathing. I know I don't have to be the strongest or the most flexible.... I'm just trying to keep up. And even with modifications I'm just falling behind a lot.... why do we have to go into plank so many times... i want to stay in cobra a little longer... I've already had to modify something as simple as cat/cow because i can't breath right. cuz it's supposed to be inhale cow, exhale cat, inhale cow, exhale cat ect. but if I followed my breathing even if i breath in as much as i can and out as much as I can I'm not in those poses for long at all. So I had to modify it where i stay for a breath cycle at each pose so my spine can appreciate it.

My body needs to take yoga slowly but my breath won't allow me to.

Did anybody else have trouble with keeping breaths in sync? When does it get easier? thanks~

    Yoga with spiritual aspect

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:08 PM PST

About 10 years ago I went to a yoga class that was different than the others I had tried. It was more than just a work out or stretch, the only way I can describe it was spiritual yoga. I felt alive and connected to the universe. Now I'm looking for something similar. The place I went to before has extremely limited hours due to covid-19 and doesn't work with my schedule. Does anyone know of videos that I could use while I wait for covid to die down?

Where should you feel the stretch in a supine spinal twist?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:50 PM PST

I don't know how to better phrase my question, but I want to learn the anatomy behind this pose. During tonight's practice I felt a huge release during supine twist, I even let out some tears. I've never felt such a strong burst of emotions during yoga before. However, it was different on each side, so I want to know: is this pose more about the spinal twist and chest opening or the stretching of the hip? Cause I usually feel a compression in the side I'm laying on, and a stretch in the side that's in the air. I was shocked by the intensity of my emotions and I want to understand which side or body parts were mostly involved. I'm a beginner, so I apologize if this sounds dumb or over the top. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully enlighten me :)

Yoga is making me more emotional. And I dont know if its a good thing or bad. It sure scares me.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:40 AM PST

    Hey all,

So I have been a gym buff all my life. I am 27, and I have been working out in gym since I was 14. I have been quite stoic in most of my 20s. My dominant emotion has always been being aggressive (not in violent way but being ambitious).

Ever since the pandemic started, and gyms closed I started doing stretched and then to yoga. Lately, I have noticed that I have become more emotional than I originally was. I tend to cry easily and often. I get affected by peoples opinion and words.

My senses have become sharp, and I smell, taste and feel a lot more things. However, crying is something that really scares because it has not been a part of my personality for a very long time. However lately I find myself being emotionally at many things lately.

What are your guys opinion? Do you think its a good thing.

My hamstring popped when sitting in child pose, is this normal?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:49 PM PST

I just felt a pop in my left hamstring as a relaxed into the position. Is this normal? It isn't really painful but I am aware of the area it popped. Any experiences would be appreciated, I know this isn't for medical advice.

    Feeling discouraged

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:38 PM PST

I managed to stretch my hamstrings a bit too much to the point where they hurt for a couple days. I got over that pain yesterday and decided to do some stretching today, which was completely pain free. However, my flexibility has understandably been changed. My flexibility now is worse than I started and I feel so discouraged because I worked so hard to get to the point I was at, even if it wasn't as impressive (I managed to put both my legs up while lying down without strain!). I feel so discouraged and cried a bit after my routine today. This is more of a rant if anything, I just needed to post this out there.

Thank you for reading if you've gotten to this point. It means a lot :) 💚

Doing yoga with limited ability in my arms

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:34 PM PST

    Hi

I wanted to do some yoga as it was recommended as treatment for ptsd.

However, I broke both my arms badly in serious car crash which is what gave me the ptsd.

Now it's kinda depressing cos I can't do a lot of the yoga moves in the ptsd yoga videos as I can't weight bear with my left arm.

    Any suggestions?

    Tia

    Yoga mat for fat people

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:05 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm fat like really fat (like 350lbs). Has anyone found a mat that's thick/hardcore enough to support such weight while practicing yoga? The one I tried was like a cheap one and it just compressed under my weight and didn't serve its purpose.

Please let me know if someone was in a similar situation and found a satisfying solution.

    Cork blocks question

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:10 PM PST

Sorry if this is a weird question but I recently got my first pair of cork yoga blocks. I bought them directly from Gaiam's website. I'm only on my second use but find that they still leave a light "cork dust" everywhere even thought I've wiped them down multiple times. Is this something that's expected or should I be investing in something like a cork sealer? I was also thinking of giving them a scrub but wasn't sure if that would cause damage. Any thoughts?

What am I supposed to be feeling one month after doing yoga?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:10 AM PST

Hello everyone! I (17f) have been practicing yoga since 26th December but I don't feel anything? I skipped 3-4 days because I injured my elbow but other than that I was regular. I didn't change my diet.

Usually, people talk about how yoga changed them drastically but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be feeling. So if you guys can share what you felt one month into yoga and context on what your journey was that would be helpful :)

Also, some context I'm naturally flexible so most of the asanas were easy for me and so maybe that's why I don't notice a change. I go with my dad to a yoga center from 7 AM to 8 AM and i plan to go for one more month.
