Digestion is a critical part of human life. In ayurveda and yoga philosophies a lot rides on digestive organs for good health. That is why yogic asana do not work on core rather the internal massage and stretching of abdominal organs.

I have almost unrealistic flexibility goals and I'm going to try anyway. Help me plan my long term strategy.

I'm a woman in her 30's who was never flexible, even as a kid. Neglected it until a few years ago, worked on it, saw some minor progress, lost it all and starting over.

And I want to dance. Not the cha cha, but really dance.

So I've done the beginner stuff. Been through the side bar. This ends up in 20-30 minutes a day trying to get into the most basic positions. Focus on breathing, try some pnf, whatever.

Here's what's missing that I want to hear from people who were either not naturally flexible like me and made it, or those who've trained people to get to their goals.

What's a good length of time per area and total body so that I don't over train, or what indicates overdoing it. What's a good frequency per day?

If the problem is lack of strength from the opposing muscle you want to stretch, are contractions during a stretch enough to fix it? I'm giving up heavy squats while I do this, right?

How often do you change up routines so you don't stall?

What role does diet actually play in this? Is it important to feel relaxed mentally during stretching and what helps with that?

I would gladly trade in my gym membership for some kind of studio for adults, but do these even exist? How do I get over feeling like an old cow who doesn't belong?

I'd also like to know this is possible, lol. I ask all these questions bc in two years I would like to be proud of my progress, even if not finished. I don't want to be like, well at least I can touch my toes now.

    Hip Flexor

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 01:04 AM PST

    Dear all,

As a desk worker i sit an awful amount per day on a chair. Therefore i am starting to do stretching exercises. My goal is:

My upper thigh / groin area hurts as hell (on the right side). I want to clear this pain and furthermore, when the football season starts again, i want to be ready.

Two years ago when kicking a football i felt my hip / upper thigh snapping, and since then it hurts when i kick the ball and when i am sitting for long times. I visited several doctors and physical therapists, and all said the following: thight hip flexors. I actually believe this is the problem, but other than strenghtening the muscles on my back side (calves, hamstrings, glutes and lower back), no one mentioned stretching. This seems to me as incomplete, since when something is thight, you can lenghten it by stretching? Does anyone else have problems with the hip flexors, or does anyone have some tips / advice?

I now am doing the "starting the stretch" in the FAQ and a 12 minute hip mobility video on youtube by Tom Merrick

Arms can't bend backwards for Squats

First of all good to all, it is my first post here, so to put a little context, I am definitely a person who is naturally not flexible, a couple of months ago I started stretching every day for about 30 minutes, I had some results decent in my pike flexibility, but I was losing motivation as I did not see big changes in a couple of months, I have informed myself to have a better plan, and I am not going to lie now I have been quite inconsistent with my mobility / flexibility sessions, but In general, now I'm not as bad as at the beginning, but there are place in particular that really give me a hard time, and they are my shoulders, specifically my external rotation is very poor, and when I put a bar on when doing back squats I just can't put my arms on the bar, to do so I have to wide my arms to the point that I touch the weights, Am I doing front squats in my workouts while I fix that problem, but there is very little or no information, any kind of stretching to improve this?

My arms cant get in that position
